Video showing Palestinian man strapped to front of jeep

Israeli army strapped wounded Palestinian to jeep

The Israeli military says the man was a suspect in a raid in the West Bank, but its forces violated protocol.

Err couldn't have just called an ambulance?

Exactly! Or they could have just let the Red Crescent ambulances take him. His name is Mujahed Azmi. His family called an ambulance already and were prevented from treating him. Instead he was abducted and used as a human shield. It's not the first time the IDF have done something like this and it won't be the last. The IDF have a habit of preventing Palestinians from receiving medical aid and they have a habit of using Palestinians as human shields. In this case, they did both at once.

MollyJustMight · 23/06/2024 11:33

Honestly I can't blame the Israeli's

They, unlike some, don't forget.

Exactly.
It's astonishing that the IDF chief has openly condemned this behaviour, yet IDF supporters on here are still attempting to excuse, deflect, and minimise it.

Notaflippinclue · 23/06/2024 11:35

Human shields - pwahahaha you are having a laugh - Palestine is one big human shield for Hamas

ConnieCounter · 23/06/2024 11:36

If the army raided a house in England and strapped an injured man onto a vehicle rather than getting him appropriate medical attention there would be rightful universal outrage.

The fact that this isn't the case when it happens to Palestinians suggests that the issue here is Islamaphobia or a hatred of Palestinians.

Not a laugh
Maybe you should read up on how the practice of the IDF using the Palestinians as human shields has been ongoing for decades.
And for those who still haven't understood, this incident took place in the occupied west bank, not Gaza.

@pandasorous

"I have no wish to engage with someone with 0 compassion."

They took him to hospital FFS - is that not compassion?

At least he wasn't thrown in the back of a pick up and spat on by ordinary Israeli civilian children.

Yes, at least he was taken to hospital and treated and you may be sure that any infractions of code of conduct will be dealt with by the IDF.

If this was an Israeli in Gaza, his life expectancy would have been very much shorter or would have been taken as a hostage.

I do feel that this thread with just a photo and a caption of "just going to leave this here...." is inviting a pile on of the IDF.

I would also like to remind posters that Israel is spelt Israel and not Isreal and it is not a spell checker issue as the error in spelling is highlighted anyway on a browser. It seems as if there are deliberate misspellings to pronounce the word differently - for reasons best known to the numerous posters that do this.

Mellowdramadrama · 23/06/2024 11:42

The ignorance on this thread is astounding. Imagine if posters found out that for many years the practice of using Palestinians as human shields by the IDF was LEGAL.
It was only banned in 2005 after much international criticism, but human rights groups including those based on Israel have documented countless cases of this practice still taking place.

I saw this posted on twitter today. The cartoon is from twenty years ago.

I am very concerned at the intentions of the poster's posting of this cartoon and its emblems on the jeep. Not to mention the incident on the thread happened on the WB.

Did you mean to report me and posted here instead?

My intentions were to show that the IDF have been doing this for at least 20 years. The emblems on the truck are presumably to denote that this is an IDF truck, as the star of David is on the flag of Israel. Happy to help.

Err, maybe they wanted to get the hell out of there. Ridiculous to think the IDF are gonna hang around with the injured guy, like sitting ducks. Couldn't a palestinian have called for medical assistance?!

They could have just left and allowed the family to get medical assistance. I agree that that would have been better than abducting him and using him as a human shield.

No @ConnieCounter I fully intended to write about you in the third person here.

As far as reporting goes, anybody is free to report anything that breaks MN talk guidelines.

Yup - I actually think that whilst some of the actions may be found to violate a code of conduct, this guy had more of a chance with the IDF. They probably had to get out of there ASAP and maybe it was the quickest way?

Posted on the BBC which says it all really.

So you think a cartoon is a piece of precise historical evidence?

Mindboggling.

EasterIssland · 23/06/2024 12:21

Livelovebehappy · 23/06/2024 09:31

At least they were taking him for treatment. Had thst been reverse, the wounded Iseaeli would probably have been tortured, murdered and paraded through the streets of Gaza to applause.

There are two ambulances in the image. Why not let the professionals take over for treatment ? Why is idf investigating and saying this is not the way it should have been handled ?

EasterIssland · 23/06/2024 12:23

cheshirecatsmile · 23/06/2024 09:58

I will tell my dad then that he did it all wrong when being bombed and shot at.

Why are they being bombed when this is West Bank and they’re not being bombed afaik?

I think the cartoon was probably drawn to reflect what was happening at the time.

Are you disputing that the IDF have used Palestinians as human shields in the past?

keenforhelp · 23/06/2024 12:21

My mind isn't boggled. It's beyond that. There are some people, who have jumped on the bandwagon, too ignorant to delve deep into the history books and instead have adopted all the soundbites. Those soundbites, include genocide, zionism, land stealers etc. The fact that Hamas deliberately use children to pull at the heartstrings and it works, on those gullible enough to believe that Israel are the oppressors, in the grand scheme of things. It is akin to reading high school essays when you look at some of the sheer naivety.

IDF trucks do NOT have the Star of David on their trucks. The Star of David is a generally recognized symbol of both Jewish identity and Judaism.

Posting a cartoon depicting a truck with this does make concerned about your intentions.

It's a cartoon. You accused me of thinking cartoons are precise historical evidence but you seem to be the one who's making that mistake, not me.
