Tel Aviv under attack from at least eight rockets fired from Rafah in Gaza

Hamas's military wing claimed responsibility for the attack on Sunday, according to Press Association.

What happened after by Israeli airstrikes was truly terrible - a real tragedy.

But why are Hamas still firing rockets deliberately at a residential city with no combatants.
As long as Hamas are in power rockets will never stop. Plus all the Aid Britain and America are giving just goes straight to Hamas. They started the war haven’t released the hostages and have no intention of surrendering.
The UN orders Israel to stop fighting.
But Hamas are free to continue their attacks.
Makes sense to someone I guess...........

What is interesting to me is that the Palestinians fellow Arabs are not supporting them by providing shelter and aid. The Egyptians won't accept Palestinian refugees even though they share a border with Gaza. The only support they get is arms from Iran. Why is that?

Because if they leave their homes, they will instantly be occupied.
If your neigbour came and said let me in- but opening the door meant they could live permanently in your house and you had to feed them, would you open the door?

No you wouldn’t. You would close the door and try to talk to the big bully who was knocking down their house so that he might say “What house? This place was rubble and now I am planting figs and olives and you want to live next to a rubble pile?”

I wonder what your reaction would be to a 'few home made rockets' falling in your street. What do you mean by "home made rockets' anyway? Are they constructed from Lego or play doh?.or are they rockets with war heads and so on?
You have raised another interesting point by saying that Palestinian pathetic little rockets
do not warrant the Israeli response. What would a reasonable response to Hamas's attacks be? One missile? Three? Fifty?

Hamas rockets rarely kill people. There is evidence that they cause PTSD. In a period of about 10 years fewer than 30 Israeli people were killed by thousands of rockets. The unnecessary loss of any life is tragic and not to be condoned but fortunately the absolute numbers are small and pale into insignificance compared with the number Palestinian deaths caused by the IDF in same time.

US sources believe that in recent times a substantial proportion of the rockets have been built using unexploded missiles fired by Israel and Hamas rockets are generally considered considerably less dangerous than those of Hezbollah.

The risk of rockets has been largely mitigated by very expensive US funded defence systems and safe rooms/ alert systems. So I imagine that the poster would run to her safe room and hope the rockets would be shot down.

These rockets do not pose an existential threat to Israel.

If Israel had supported a peace partner prepared to work towards a two state solution, it is likely there would be fewer rockets. So op would probably demand that her government engage in dialogue to try and disempower Hamas by allowing a rival more moderate and secular group to win concessions at the negotiating table.

@blackcherryconserve politics, USA and UK pressure. Nearby Arabs are supporting them in the best way they know how, their governments are not.

@keenforhelp please don’t use the anti-Semite propaganda. Palestinians ARE semites!

Vote Lib Dems to stop the genocide.

Mellowdramadrama · 28/05/2024 21:05

@keenforhelp I just came across this. I don't condone it at all. It's actually extremely tragic but it's an example of the cycle of violence. I think it also brings to light the psychological trauma that both sides are facing that is often minimised or ignored.
The international community needs to do more in my opinion to put an end to this. To work towards a lasting solution and not just temporary band aids that are soon ripped off.
The children of Israel and Palestine deserve better!

Yes I'm sure that'll work. But what has that got to do with the attacks on Tel Aviv?

Sbzm · 28/05/2024 21:11

@keenforhelp There are two definitions of Semitic people:

  1. People who are native speakers of a Semitic language, like Arabic and Hebrew.
  2. By extension the people from a Semitic speaking region.
Palestinians are Semites according to both definitions, since they speak an Arabic dialect and are the descendants of the old Hebrew people, the ethnic Jews.

gifting European jews the land of Palestine

You do know @WhatTheFudge0 that Jewish peoples have always lived in Israel and Palestine? If you want to argue this way, it is Jewish land as much as it is Arab land and more so than Muslim land.

Thanks for trying to correct me but please note I said European Jews.
Jews, Christians and Muslims have always lived in Palestine. But it was never a Jewish majority btw.

Antisemitism is prejudice, hostility, or discrimination towards Jewish people.

I would like mn to explain how I violated the talk guidelines stating that I didn't care 'Christ' upset the op? But my post with the word 'Christ' in it is left to stand?

I report abelism all the time which is ignored. I see multiple posts from people stating their reports of racism get ignored, but our posts have been deleted?!

Sbzm · 28/05/2024 21:59

@blurry5205 read my last paragraph again, Semitic people are descendants of the ethnic Jews. If anything they are cousins by DNA.

Semitism by definition is what I said. I, and many others, find this notion ridiculous when it pertains to speaking about the Jews and Arabs of Palestine when both are Semitic peoples. Similarly I greatly disapprove of this term being thrown around to anyone who disagrees with Zionism. They are both VERY different things!

Do you think all Palestinians share characteristics that justifies their mass killing? After all - nobody wants them right?
