"Brilliant moment pro-Israel protesters get their own back on pro-Palestine mob"

Pro-Israel supporters have taken to the streets after a cinema was vandalised with graffiti for planning to show a film about the Nova festival massacre at the hands of Hamas terrorists.

Pro-Palestine activists sprayed the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley, London, with the message "say no to artwashing". In response, members of the Jewish community and campaigners against anti-Semitism are holding a demonstration outside the picturehouse.
Music could be heard blaring, including Elton John's I'm Still Standing, as smiling pro-Israel supporters waved the Israeli flag in a show of defiance.
A tiny band of pro-Palestine protesters are on the scene, however they are vastly outnumbered.

The volunteer, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Telegraph: “It’s just an outrage. People who are survivors of this massacre are coming here and they could have been confronted with red graffiti that honestly looked like blood.
“One of the people here knows someone who survived the massacre and she was coming tonight. Imagine the trauma if she saw this. People from the community have gone together to clean it up.
“It claimed that the film was artwashing - but it’s not. It’s footage from the festival. It shows what happened. There’s no agenda.

"Getting their own back"? That's the language of the school yard, not the language of grown ups. But then, it's in the express. So I expect it's unreasonable to expect proper adult expression of the horrors on both sides, that have been, and are being perpetrated

keenforhelp · 23/05/2024 22:34

And you support the resignations? Is that why you linked this far left-wing trashy piece?

It's a news article on exactly the topic of the thread.

How dare the Jewish community host a film about the worst terrorist atrocity to hit Israel. How dare Jews show solidarity for families that have suffered in unimaginable ways?

The anti film protests show both inhumanity and I think an immaturity. I am proud of the Israeli flags and the supporters surrounding this event. If you went to the USA and graffitied a cinema showing a 9/11 documentary at that time Americans would be a much less restrained in their response compared to dignified stars and stripes waving so I think the cinema supporters should be lauded for their restraint.

There is an insidious move amongst some to wash October 7th out of history. Anti semtism at its worst.

Limesodaagain · 24/05/2024 06:23

Salman Rushdie in his recent speech in Germany about left wing radicals who have failed to distance themselves from Hamas. This is a ‘terrorist organisation …. It is very strange for young progressive student [activists] to kind of support a fascist terrorist group’.
It’s not just young progressive students though … as @ConnieCounter has shown it is also much older people who identify as left wing but can’t see the irony of supporting a fascist ideology.

Chickenuggetsticks · 24/05/2024 06:26

I think it’s really clear how anti-semitism is very much part of some of these protest groups. I don’t know how anyone in their right mind could object to this unless they just hated Jewish people.

I think the events of October 7th were a tad more disgusting than calling a mob a mob ......

Isn’t that what they are?

So true.

Some protesters want to understand, find a way towards peace, towards security for both Israelis and Palestinians. Not this lot.

What the fuck?

SpaceLaser · 24/05/2024 07:02

It’s not until events like those of October 7 happen at British music festivals or in quiet English villages that people will see what is truly disgusting.

mids2019 · 24/05/2024 07:11

@SpaceLaser

we did have the Manchester stadium bombing and the continued grief in that city is palapable. I remember the warning feeling of the concerts in temperance of their victims and the solidarity of a city in mourning yet defiant. It seems though Jewish UK citizens can be taunted in their hours of remembrance and reflection......

It shames us all. This vileness in our midst and all we do is deny and excuse it.

But that is what they are.

A disgusting, vile mob.

Who else would act like this at this film being shown? Only those who glorify the horrors of October by framing it as noble resistance. And those who can't stand the cognitive dissonance of standing with terrorists.

Because petulant graffiti is the 'grown-up' way to protest.🙄

OK that's not how I took the article at all. They said they resigned because the Israeli state was involved. Not sure where you got supporting Hamas or fascism from.

You mean it should have said “Pro terrorist mob”? Or is it you who is being disgusting?
