"Brilliant moment pro-Israel protesters get their own back on pro-Palestine mob"

Pro-Israel supporters have taken to the streets after a cinema was vandalised with graffiti for planning to show a film about the Nova festival massacre at the hands of Hamas terrorists.

Pro-Palestine activists sprayed the Phoenix Cinema in East Finchley, London, with the message "say no to artwashing". In response, members of the Jewish community and campaigners against anti-Semitism are holding a demonstration outside the picturehouse.
Music could be heard blaring, including Elton John's I'm Still Standing, as smiling pro-Israel supporters waved the Israeli flag in a show of defiance.
A tiny band of pro-Palestine protesters are on the scene, however they are vastly outnumbered.

The volunteer, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Telegraph: “It’s just an outrage. People who are survivors of this massacre are coming here and they could have been confronted with red graffiti that honestly looked like blood.
“One of the people here knows someone who survived the massacre and she was coming tonight. Imagine the trauma if she saw this. People from the community have gone together to clean it up.
“It claimed that the film was artwashing - but it’s not. It’s footage from the festival. It shows what happened. There’s no agenda.

I wonder if the 88 in this antisemitic pro-Hamas man's username is a coincidence.

What delightful gentlemen.

These are the calibre of people I encounter regularly.

More likely to be his year of birth, I would imagine.

Possibly, but he's hardly the only antisemite with an affinity for that number.

Being distressed by the ongoing genocide in Gaza and standing against the use of the tragic Oct 7th attack as justification for genocide is not anti-semitism.

100%

I was speaking to a young friend yesterday whose father installs fire alarms in London. He was recently servicing a fire alarm in a jewish school. The head teacher asked him to be very careful not to set off the other alarm sound because they have had to set a different siren as a warning of a terrorist attack due to the marches and the enormous rise in antisemitism.
All the staff and children are terrified this might happen so setting this off inadvertently would cause huge panic.
The children have also been told not to wear distinguishing uniform to and from school.
This is what the “mob” have achieved for british jewish people.

Was there a specific terror attack threat made to the school? Did the police advise them that there was and they should install an alarm? I am aware that there has been a rise in anti-semitism and Jews are rightly feeling threatened and at risk but I fail to see the benefit of frightening kids into thinking there might be a terrorist attack. Yes be vigilant be prepared but is it really appropriate to frighten children in this way?

What's the issue here?

I was a visitor to some Jewish schools 20 years ago and the security then was intense. Apparently, bomb threats and very nasty correspondence with a range of threats were common.

You are really asking what's the issue? Can you not see an issue with this aggressive behaviour
Did you not see what the man said at the end either?

You actually think the staff would've installed an alarm if it wasn't necessary? Did they just do it for shits and giggles?

Or the throat slitting actions?
Or the racist abuse?
Or is that all fine and dandy
I'm sure you will condemn such behaviour that has no place on a peaceful protest

Wow...just wow. Do people really not know or understand that Jewish schools and synagogues need extra security? It's not paranoia.

Februaryfeels · 24/05/2024 15:00

@Mellowdramadrama Yes I'm really asking

I can't hear what's being said but all I see is a group of Israeli supporters standing up to a pro Palestine mob

Maybe you could explain what was said

IbisDancer · 24/05/2024 15:01

What evidence is there that the graffiti was done by a card carrying member of the PPM?

How do they know it wasn’t just a teen prank?

workingtowards · 24/05/2024 15:04

I live near to this cinema. It's a local treasure and I am very upset that it was vandalised in this way just because an Israeli film was showing. I am sure that some of the people who went along to protest felt that they were protecting people who might want to see the film.

Having said that though, a significant section of the the people that turned up to protest were agressive and intimidated locals. I don't think doing things like this will do anything to increase outside support for Israel. North London we can do better than this, on both sides.

You couldn't see the throat slitting either then?

Februaryfeels · 24/05/2024 15:16

@Mellowdramadrama The clip is only 1.02.
I don't know who I'm meant to be looking at. A time stamp would be useful

I'd love to see footage from the opposite side. What's the bloke with the red scarf doing?

IbisDancer · 24/05/2024 15:28

I couldn’t see any throat slitting gestures. I saw angry men squaring up and heard a few bits like ‘fucking wanker’ and ‘terrorist supporters go home’

there were probably equally angry men squaring up on the side of whoever was filming things too.

Usually when protests turn ugly it’s a mix of anger and provoking behaviours on both sides.

That’s why the police were working hard to keep them separated.

It is biased though to call one group “protesters” and the other a “mob”

That was not what implied.

@Comedycook wow just wow?
I was commenting on the poster suggesting the children were terrified of a terrorist attack and queried whether they needed to know that. I was also interested to know whether there had been a threat of a terrorist attack. I never suggested there wasn't.

There's several videos online. Please believe me when I say I've seen the aggression and racism, these people are terrible. British Jews are a small and peaceful group, and we don't need or want fascist groups like the EDL (who hate us anyway) turning up at vigils or protests. and trying to embed themselves in the Jewish community.

Scirocco · 24/05/2024 15:48

So, apparently throat slitting gestures, racist verbal abuse, threats, etc are all invisible and inaudible to some people when they're happening to people who don't agree with the Israeli government (especially if those people are from a particular faith and have a particular skin tone, from the sounds of what was said in the video). Who knew? No, wait... we already knew that.

I don’t agree with the Israeli government.
I have been to many pro-ceasefire protests in support of Palestine.
I think the U.K. should recognise Palestine as a State. You can’t have a two state solution when only one party is a state.

I also did not see throat slitting gestures from the pro IDF/Israel side. I did see anger and aggression, but that is not uncommon at any protest.

I didn't see that. I watched the clip quite a few times and still don't know what I'm meant to be getting outraged about

Is it the bald man on the right in the black t shirt that is simulating throat slitting?
