It appears Jews are not safe in the UK at all.

Can we seriously look at the impact of anti semitism now?

Police at the home of one of the men arrested over an alleged terror plot

Three in court over alleged plan to attack Jewish community

Three men are accused of planning a gun attack on the Jewish community in North-West England.

As a counter-point to the above, it has not been my experience at all.

I have encountered people with a range of views on a range of issues. Some people are lovely. Some people, well, aren't. Just like every other population. But at no point have I encountered universal antisemitism or other hatred against another group.

Maybe other posters have been unfortunate and been surrounded by unpleasant people. Those people's views are not representative of Islam, any more than I could say the EDL's views are representative of Christianity.

Those people's views are not representative of Islam,

It's really depressing that you have to point this out

Personally as a Jewish woman - the far right and far left worry me FAR more than any Muslim.

My nanna had Muslim friends and always told me that Jews and Muslims have far more in common than any two other religions - largely because so many Centre their identity on bellowing “Here, have some more food” 🤣🤣

Arguments centering around food too. Pickles, in my own personal experience 😂

Ah, a controversial topic in our house. I'm very much not a pickle fan, but DH would pickle anything.

I haven’t encountered extremist views from Muslims or Jews . The ones I encounter at work are not extremist in the slightest. I have encountered extreme religious views in Northern Ireland- it tends to be linked to extreme political views ( as @YaMuvva has said ) in my experience.

This can be seen in the UK too in some people that hatred handed down through some people. The level of increase in anti semitism in the UK shows people still repeat the tropes

I hope this doesn't come to anything but why are protestors specifically targeting Finchley today? This is a huge city, why Finchley?

I know Finchley well.
what an odd odd place for a protest. It’s not exactly London. It’s can only be to upset and scare the British Jews

what do they think the average British Jewish person can do?
they have as much power over the Israeli government as the average British muslim

Limesodaagain · 01/06/2024 11:37

People looking for trouble rather than genuine protesters ? 😣

Because people who whine that they’re not antisemitic are absolute liars

It's a Jewish area so they would go there to cause fear and upset in the Jewish community. No other reason since Jewish people in the UK didn't cause the war and have no say in what happens in the middle east.

This type of protest in a Jewish area shows what those particular protesters are about. 🙄 Yet we're told it's about ending the war. Strange since the UK Jewish Community cannot affect that end.

Exactly, which is what many have said all along. The protesters cannot help themselves when they do this. Arrest the lot of them that turn up in the area.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 01/06/2024 12:04

All feels a bit 1936 cable street protests to me

Last week police officers were injured so more police drafted in for this weekend
https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1904736/palestine-protest-london-officer-bottle-in-face

This weekend there are 4 different protests or rallies from various different groups so basically avoid London. A group has stated intentions to block bridges and roads in support of Gaza. Youth speaks, how on earth blocking roads and bridges will actually help though

‘Out of control' pro-Palestine protesters goad police in central London

A female police officer sustained serious facial injuries after being hit in the face by a bottle thrown from the crowd, the Met has said.

ALovelyCupOfNameChange · 01/06/2024 12:09

If I didn’t think I’d make the whole situation ten times worse for police I’d go to just show support for the British Jews

how dare people think it’s acceptable to do this

I have to say, since the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign projected 'From the River to the Sea' onto the Houses of Parliament I've realised that people who would be considered 'genuine protesters' (they organise a lot of the marches) also seek to deliberately provoke and cause upset to Jews.

Indeed. The faux naivety of those who claim they aren't the same thing is wearing pretty thin.

A lot of the things he's saying - Jews killed Jesus, Jews did 9/11, Jews control the media - are things I've seen on this board.

I’ve honestly not seen any of those kinds of things on this board ( perhaps because they are deleted?)
