How have we come to a state where the police confront someone for being overtly Jewish?

mids2019 · 20/04/2024 18:39

Just how?

I think at best this inept policing at worst vile anti semitism.

I suppose it is now in the open that central London has become effectively a no go area for Jews given the potential for abuse from hate marchers.

Can't we just stop these marches so Jews can go about their business?

I just want to add, I knew very little about what was going on and initially wanted peace for both sides.

Having researched it, heard and watched what's come out of the mouths of member's of the Israeli government, viewed footage of what member's of the IDF have done, the amount of "accidental" killings of not only civilian's but journalists and aid workers, the deliberate starvation of Palestinian's, depriving them of the most basic needs for survival, the bombing of hospital's, cutting off resources - food, water, electricity, internet (so no one actually knows what's going on in Gaza), not allowing international journalist's to enter Gaza to report on what's going on.

This is not a war. This is a genocide. Committed for the sole purpose of Israel taking over all of Palestine (Gaza and West Bank), which is something they have been working on for years!
Anyone who supports the Israeli government in this needs their head's examined.

initially wanted peace for both sides.

You don't still want peace for both sides?

What do you think Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, Iran want?

No, I don't.

I only want peace for the Palestinian people. Something they've been deprived of, along with all their basic human rights for decades.

You've obviously glossed over everything I covered in my previous post, which speaks volumes.

noblegiraffe · 25/04/2024 22:30

I was querying why you wouldn't want peace for both sides. This isn't glossing over what you've written, but you do appear to be ignoring the people who would like to see Israel wiped off the map. Genocide is bad?

Genocide against ANY people is horrific. Just like it was when 6 million innocent Jews were killed. I want to see the same level of outrage people have over that for the Palestinian people.

Another reminder, that Israel has broken international law.
You're comparing a country that is a member of the UN to terrorist groups. No matter what, countries must still be bound by international law when taking part in "wars." Once they break those rules, they are no better than terrorist organisations, which is why a lot of us see Israel in this way.

noblegiraffe · 25/04/2024 22:42

I don't support the Israeli government.

But I don't understand how you can only want peace for one side. What do you want for Israel?

Why are you asking what that poster wants from Israel? Not everything is about Israel. The poster was talking about the genocide happening in Gaza. Not Israel. Gaza.

Israeli politicians have expressed genocidal rhetoric too. And they’ve actually killed tens of thousands of the group they’ve expressed such contempt for.

What you seem to be implying is that it’s either genocide for the Palestinians or genocide for the Israelis.

This thread was about the London marches yet like every other one it’s been derailed. Why can’t we have a thread that discusses what’s happening here in London and the appalling impact on antisemitism and British Jews?
And in case anyone was in any doubt, it’s antisemitic to hold BRITISH Jews accountable for the actions of the Israeli govt

AccountCreateUsername · 25/04/2024 22:49

Aaaaaanyway, there’s a march on Saturday, Parliament Sq to Hyde Park if anyone fancies it?

ssd · 25/04/2024 22:52

Lets be clear, genocide isnt happening in israel. No matter how many times certain posters tell us its all hamas want. It isnt happening and it isnt happening for a reason. Israel has one of the most sophisticated anti missile deterrents in the world and the most influential backers. Hamas can hope all they want, genocide will never happen in Israel.

OTOH ,Gaza. 34000 dead, and counting. Genocide is clearly happening in Gaza. Its happening in front of our eyes and we can all see it. It cant be denied, it cant be swept away because it makes us uncomfortable. Its happening in full view of the world. And people are sickened.

The issue is how Israel exists today. It exists purely because Palestinian's were kicked out of their homes to "make room" for Jewish people.
Initially, Palestinian's welcomed Jewish people with open arms. They lived side by side, had equal rights, no violence, pretty much in harmony.
There wasn't really a "power" in place i.e. governments. Only when this happened did things change.
There was a complete shift where Jewish people were given rights and Palestinian's were deprived of them. Palestinian's forcibly removed from homes. Seen as lesser. Rights taken off them purely because of their race/ethnicity/religion.

If this happened anywhere else on the planet, can you imagine how hard people would fight back. Can you imagine this happening in the UK? There would be hell.

I believe both Jewish people and Palestinian's can live in harmony. But when the government believes in their own supremacy that can never happen. There are Jewish people protesting in Israel against their own government right now.

namechangedforconfusion · 25/04/2024 23:01

I believe everyone should listen to Normal Finkelstein. He's a Jewish man and really educates you on what's going on.

I completely agree with your last point. Not all Jewish people should be held accountable for what the Israeli government is doing. It would be like collectively punishing an entire group of people based on their race/religion/ethnicity. I hope the irony here isn't lost on you.

The issue is the OP needed to be corrected. Viewing the video of the incident in its entirety will show you how misleading the reports are. It's fake news. People need to stop with these anti-semitic accusations because it's getting very old and boring. No one was confronted for "being Jewish." He was confronted because he was provoking and antagonising people who were protesting.

There are Jewish people who attend these protests in solidarity with the Palestinian people. If those protests offend you, that's a you problem. And you have issues you need to see through. The protests are highlighting what's going on in Gaza. They are NOT anti-semitic. If you think they are, then maybe talk to the Jews who attend them.

I cannot understand why acknowledging this genocide is anti-semitic.

Remember Mark Twain's words 'a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes.'

Because she said that she started out by wanting peace for both sides, and now she only wants peace for one side.

Therefore it seems entirely reasonable and following on from her comment to ask what she wants for Israel where she used to want peace.

This is where context is imperative and common sense goes a very long way.
If you've seen the video then you know it is Gideon Falter who states it's because he's Jewish. And then the copper says "you are quite obviously jewish in appearance..." He had a kippah on his head, so yeah I'd agree! Just like a woman wearing a niqab or burka would be quite obviously Muslim in appearance. This is besides the point. it was his behaviour leading up to it which was the deciding factor in confronting him It was ridiculous. And no sensible adult should be backing him up! He was trying to walk directly into the crowd while the police were trying to talk to him and reason with him, more than a few times.

He behaved like a giant toddler throwing a strop and should have been arrested. If he had been black, asian, Muslim, there is no way the police would have been that patient.

What was the point of walking against the flow of the protestors? What was the point of bringing your bodyguards to film it all if it was genuine?

The only thing he achieved was embarrassing himself, because there's footage dispelling what he claims.

When does that run out, because the Jews might also say they have a claim to that land?

But regardless, lines have been drawn on maps and people displaced all over the world (lots by us). It seems like you want a country erased on that basis. Where else do you want countries erased? Pakistan? That was created with mass displacement and death at around the same time.

How do you decide which countries have a right to exist?
