Conflict in the Middle East

To say the London Palestinian marches should be stopped

KarmaCaramello · 18/04/2024 08:26

They are weekly marches found to be organised by organisations with links to Hamas, and at least one ex Hamas member.

They are supporting a terrorist organisation that has just committed the deadliest day in Israel’s history. An Iranian dissident was arrested for holding a sign saying Hamas is Terrorist, despite the fact that they are a UK-designated terrorist organisation - because protestors assaulted him on seeing the sign.

If they were calling for peace and fewer casualties they would be condemning Hamas and calling for them to surrender.

AIBU to think this is deeply disturbing and has no place on the streets of London. Note - terrorist support is illegal and not protected speech.

But no one will convince me that the fixation with this conflict is not deeply rooted in anti semitism. I've said before, if it was another Muslim nation doing this in Gaza, very very few people would care.

Hamas is still holding hostages. I’ll march for Gaza as soon as they have all been released.

*holding = detaining, attacking, torturing, beating, assaulting, raping

Edited

So you think all the dead women and kids, all the starving families, all the chronically sick and severely injured, all of them are card carrying members of Hamas and responsible for the hostages being held??
So Palestinian = Hamas to you?

Bullshit

Rachel Riley, is that you?

👏😂

Lanoy · 18/04/2024 09:32

You are being very unreasonable.
The UK government is actively involved in this genocide. The least we can do is protest. By all means organise your own marches where you can support the murder of Palestinians to your hearts content.

CC222 · 18/04/2024 09:33

We are protesting against a Genocide. We won't stop marching until there is a permanent ceasefire, and until Palestine is free from occupation and apartheid.
Learn the meaning of humanity please...

The poster I was quoting suggested we start writing to the Israeli embassy....so are these marches about the uk governments stance or Israel's actions....

Both! Some of us don’t want our Government (who supposedly represent us) telling Israel that we support their genocide of the Palestinian people.

So easy to claim “antisemitism”. The government of a sophisticated nation is using F35s, artillery, drones and cruise missiles procured using public funds to pound thousands of civilians to fragments of bone and dust in an area they have constrained them to for decades having occupied their homes in other parts of the country. It’s abhorrent.

VestibuleVirgin · 18/04/2024 09:34

Is that you, Mr Netanyahu?

Lanoy · 18/04/2024 09:35

Comedycook · 18/04/2024 09:09

I wish the civil war in Sudan which has displaced millions of people and left them facing starvation would stop. Such a shame no one protests over it. I wonder why?

Yes, It's anti semitic not to allow Israel to carry out war crimes.

Westfacing · 18/04/2024 09:35

The majority of marchers have no links to Hamas.

Israel is inflicting the most awful and relentless collective punishment on the Palestinians - are people supposed to keep quiet about it lest they be accused of being terrorist supporters?

And shame on the Iranian regime for shifting the focus away from the suffering in Gaza - Netanyahu must be laughing up his sleeve.

Everanewbie · 18/04/2024 09:35

I don't like the idea of banning protests based on *someone's judgement of their validity. You only have to look to the BLM protests where officers took the knee, yet the same officers kicked 7 bells out of the Sarah Everard and anti lockdown protesters.

I do wish these useful idiots would go away though, and the police would come down harder on the blatant anti-Semitism and terrorist sympathising rhetoric, that seems makes up a proportion of these marches.

Comedycook · 18/04/2024 09:37

I can’t believe Channel 4 haven’t sacked her.

Right?

And as for her ‘apology’…

shivermetimbers77 · 18/04/2024 09:39

People are protesting against the actions of the Israeli government and the UK government in arming them. Disapproval of a state attack on innocent people is not anti semitism. It is entirely possible to oppose the actions of Hamas and simultaneously oppose the genocidal actions of the Israeli government.

Firawla · 18/04/2024 09:40

So you just want Israel to be able to continue committing a genocide in peace without anyone even raising objections about it?

You think it’s okay for every hospital to be bombed and this amount of children to be killed

but protesting against that is the problem???

you have zero morality or decency in that case.

Israeli government are war criminals. Look how much better the hostages were treated by hamas compared to the way children that are illegally held in the West Bank in prisons are treated. Israel has no leg to stand on with any of this

Of course they wouldn't. They don't care about the women of Afghanistan, or of Iran. Just scream 'free Palestine' like automatons. It annoys me absolutely no end.

One of the results of the ongoing protests (and objections) is that people are now talking about the conflicts in Sudan, The Congo, Yemen and other forgotten territories. That’s a start…

Well isnt that convenient then, anyone who objects to the genocide in Gaza is anti semitic so they should just shut up and go away.
I am not anti semitic but I feel no need to convince people who think the death of 32000 people (around 90% of whom are civilians) is justified of that.

Ordinary people have no control over that though

It's like my house, playground and hospital being bombed for something the government did

It also drives people into extremism.

Look at how the hamas attacks have turned opinion against palestine and the world has supported their retaliation. It's madness to create a situation where then that the people in gaza and people watching what happened, and see the very real human cost are angry are pushed into equal extremism.

I know two people, one of whom lived in Israel so is baying for blood because of the immense hurt she has seen of innocents taken hostage, the other is Muslim and is calling for blood because of the immense hurt of hospitals destroyed and aid not reaching where it needs.

People who identify with Israel call for blood and death, people who identify with gaza will call for blood and death.

It's a breeding ground for global extremism and divides that will harm the world's safety for years to come

GoodOldEmmaNess · 18/04/2024 09:43

As I recall nearly a million people marched against the US/UK invasion of Iran. No one tried to delegitimise that protest in the ways that the protests against Israeli aggression are being delegitimised.
As a poster upthread said: Get some morals. Stop weaponising mis-accusations of bigotry to silence legitimate dissent.
The disastrous war in Iraq began with a claim that the invasion was a proper response to a terrorist atrocity. Then, as now, it was right and proper to interrogate that claim and hold nations to account when they breach international law in the name of self defence.

Constantdistractions · 18/04/2024 09:43

If Israel turned on England and brutally murdered 1000s of women and children here, would condemning that be anti sematic? Should we turn a blind eye because the people committing the murder happen to be Jewish? Or are Palestinian children less important?

“Automaton” - dehumanising people there, that’s disgusting.

I'm not talking about an individual objecting to anything. I'm talking about hundreds of thousands marching every week for this conflict over any other.

And shame on the Iranian regime for shifting the focus away from the suffering in Gaza
The Israeli government did this when they bombed the Iranian ambassy in Syria, knowing that Iran would respond and that the world's governments would side with them. A good diversion tactic, isn't it?
