Killing of 5 Foreign Aid Workers from the World Central Kitchen

cherryjamontoast · 01/04/2024 23:33

I've just seen on social media graphic videos of 5 dead aid workers from Australia, Austrian and British. The WCK are the people responsible for the ships coming into Gaza at the Jetty to distribute food. This was the second ship that departed from Cyprus a few days ago. Once arriving at the jetty they had to distribute the food. They were targeted in an armoured vehicle in Deir el Balah by the IDF. Its now being pick up by the press.Very sad.

Why would the IDF target aid workers distributing food? It doesn't make sense

Why did they sniper kill a mother and daughter inside a church in December?

Why did they kill a food aid truck driver last week?

Why have they killed 130 journalists so far?

Why have they killed 12,300 children in four months?

It's breaking news on sky. More tragic deaths
The IDF have said they are looking into it

What a relief!

Thank goodness a trustworthy, neutral organisation with a proven track record of total honesty is "looking into it"!

[Yes, that WAS blatant sarcasm!]

Appalling news. My thoughts are with their families tonight. How awful must it feel to have your loved one go off on an humanitarian mission to feed the starved only for them to be murdered.

Apparently one of the aid workers was Irish. If it is true I'll be interested to see the Irish government's reaction to this news tomorrow. There is growing pressure for the government here to actually do something, be it trade sanctions or expelling the Israeli ambassador or something and this will no doubt add to it. The reaction so far tonight here is one of anger and sadness.

Despicable! 😡 One of them is Australian. I wonder if Anthony Albanese is going to do anything about it. I doubt he will.

To stop them delivering food.

To discourage others from delivering food.

Because they can.

Because they don't want anyone to feed or help the Palestinians, who they view as vermin, or something like that, probably

Bridgetta · 02/04/2024 04:58

Israel has made mistakes like this for years and its allies tolerate it unfortunately

coffy11 · 02/04/2024 05:08

They're murderers, they don't care who they kill. They want everyone dead so they can take over the land. It's disgusting that the rest of the world is letting them get away with it.

Other humanitarian and healthcare workers killed in Gaza

174 UN staff killed, including 171 UNRWA staff. The UN has said this is the “largest single loss of life” among its staff members in the organisation’s history.

348 health workers killed, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

15 Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) staff and volunteers killed.

There's been at least one WHO worker - maybe included in the health workers

This is why they did it.

It wasn’t a mistake.

Just like WFP was forced to suspend their operations.

Efacsen · 02/04/2024 07:24

From WCK

''The aid workers were “traveling in a deconflicted zone in two armored cars branded with the WCK logo and a soft skin vehicle,” the statement said.

“Despite coordinating movements with the [Israeli army], the convoy was hit as it was leaving the Deir al-Balah warehouse, where the team had unloaded more than 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought to Gaza on the maritime route,” WCK added.

These precautions didn't help Hind and the paramedics who went to rescue her either - IIRC the excuse then was 'not in the area'

Dancingontheedge · 02/04/2024 08:19

As others have said, the Israeli government doesn’t want food aid or anything supporting the civilian population to exist in Gaza. The IDF will investigate, find themselves innocent, or that it was an accident. The UN et al will protest and threaten, and flap around, and the IDF will continue doing what it’s doing.
Gaza and its Palestinian population are doomed. By the time other world organisations manage to do anything effective, they’ll be extinct.

Dulra · 02/04/2024 08:48

Well according to the Israeli government they are "conducting a thorough review at the highest level to understand the circumstances of this tragic incident" so that's ok then. They go on to say the "IDF makes extensive efforts to enable the safe delivery of humanitarian aid" words and spin, dead aid workers and children dying from starvation. They seriously need to improve on those "extensive efforts"

Auvergne63 · 02/04/2024 09:02

Next they will be excusing it by saying that the driver, who was Palestinian, was a Hamas terrorist.
The level of the IDF/Israeli's government's inhumanity has no end. They have one goal: murder every Palestinian by any means available, knowing that the world won't do anything.
But the day of reckoning will come. In what form? I don't know. You reap what you sow though. Actions have consequences.

Desertrose2023 · 02/04/2024 09:04

The pictures of the dead aid workers are all over social media. It’s so awful may they rest in peace.

the Australian lady was just in a promotional video showing the work they’re doing there. It’s horrific to see the contrasting pictures of her literally weeks apart. the leaders of the countries these people are from have failed them. I won’t hold my breath to see what “full accountability” looks like for Anthony Albanese. He should be imposing sanctions on Israel now. They all should.

I don’t think Gaza and Palestinians are doomed. It’s a horrific time, it’s a new low, but I really think it’s the beginning of the end of impunity for Israel. Gen Z has seen the truth and the current leadership particularly in the US is aging and will die off. Despite all the horrors I remain hopeful for a better future.

For sure. They need to ask themselves what would they would be doing if Russia killed their humanitarian workers and do whatever they would do in that situation. It is so far out of control at this point. The number of aid workers killed by Israel in the past 6 months is completely unacceptable. This is Israel showing once again that they believe they are above International law and that they have no respect at all for the ICJ. They were ordered just a few days to allow aid into Gaza and this is how they respond. It is despicable on every level.

MissyB1 · 02/04/2024 09:19

Israel don’t give a shit who they kill now, they will murder anyone who is getting in the way of their genocide plan. Feeding Palestinians? Yep that makes you a target! The fuckers have zero morals.

AliceA2021 · 02/04/2024 09:29

This news is really sad.
