Killing of 5 Foreign Aid Workers from the World Central Kitchen

I've just seen on social media graphic videos of 5 dead aid workers from Australia, Austrian and British. The WCK are the people responsible for the ships coming into Gaza at the Jetty to distribute food. This was the second ship that departed from Cyprus a few days ago. Once arriving at the jetty they had to distribute the food. They were targeted in an armoured vehicle in Deir el Balah by the IDF. Its now being pick up by the press.Very sad.

Finally Blinken makes a statement

Blinken: US government has 'spoken directly to the Israeli government' about airstrike that killed seven aid workersDuring a visit to France, the US secretary of state Antony Blinken has said the US has spoken directly to the Israeli government about the Israeli airstrike that yesterday killed seven humanitarian aid workers in Gaza.
“We’ve spoken directly to the Israeli government about this particular incident. We’ve urged a swift, a thorough and impartial investigation to understand exactly what happened,” Reuters report Blinken told the media at a news conference in Paris, adding that humanitarian workers have to be protected.

WCK have now said that three British aid workers were killed by the Israeli strike

Efacsen · 02/04/2024 15:36

This is Israel's plan to prevent a recurrence -

''Israel has said it plans to open a joint situation room with international groups to enable the coordination of humanitarian aid after admitting that its military killed seven aid workers in an airstrike yesterday.''

This what WCK already did yesterday and it didn't work!

Pancakee · 02/04/2024 15:47

They don’t give a shit and know they can get away with anything they like sadly.
I wonder how much support the government has from the Israeli population.

Parkingt111 · 02/04/2024 15:48

This makes me so angry bunch of murdering thugs. How can this be a mistake. They fired on the first clearly marked vehicle. The workers managed to escape to the second vehicle which was then fired on. The third vehicle came back to aid the wounded which was then fired on too Killing them all. How will our government still defend this?

cherryjamontoast · 02/04/2024 15:50

I have seen a couple of unverified reports that says the aid workers were in three separate vehicles in different locations in the town. If true, it raises the question how incidental it was - not that I believe it was accidental.

@Efacsen it's a joke, who does the IDF think they are still fooling with their fake concern for humanitarian workers? It's a disgrace.

I know - not even trying to sound sincere/convincing

Atm at the top of the Guardian live-feed is the clip of Netanyahu saying it was 'unintentional' - fleeting smiles ?tells pass across his face [easier to see without the sound]

Sadly the joke is on us

Another NGO pausing their humanitarian work

Project Hope, which operates clinics in Rafah and Deir al Bala, has issued a statement about the killing of seven humanitarian aid workers in an Israeli airstrike yesterday. The organisation says it has suspended its humanitarian work for three days pending a security review.

This seems to be getting worse, not better. Sky News say there will be 'a statement from the UK Government' within the hour.

And defend it too

And provide the weapons

They’ll say they thought there was a Hamas member in the car like it says in the hareetz report that they thought there was a member but had stayed in the warehouse. Shall we believe them?

Hopefully related with will stop selling weapons to Israel as of today. Any other words are just pure hypocrisy

UK summons Israeli ambassador over killing of British aid workers in Gaza airstrike

Reuters has a quick snap that the UK is to summon the Israeli ambassador over the deaths of three British nationals killed in an Israeli airstrike on an aid convoy in Gaza that yesterday killed seven people in total.

Getting tough now

PeasfullPerson · 02/04/2024 16:32

Netanyahu looks gleeful in his video! Like a child that’s snuck themselves a few extra sweets! It’s disturbing.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 02/04/2024 16:49

Rishi Sunak@RishiSunak All our thoughts are with the families of those killed in this shocking strike, including three British aid workers.

Israel must explain how this tragic incident happened and take immediate steps to protect aid workers and facilitate vital humanitarian operations in Gaza.

I'm sure the ICJ had something to say about facilitating humanitarian aid, quite some time ago.

Desertrose2023 · 02/04/2024 16:57

The fact 3 Britons doing aid work have been killed by a foreign army should be on the front page of every newspaper here. It’s shocking there isn’t more of an outcry yet over this.

This kicked off after the killings and abductions in October. Israel just has to accept that Hamas has the right to kill and abduct people or write a letter of protest to the Times.

Seriously there is no answer, the middle east govts want an end to Israel and unless we help get rid of Israel those will simply continue. Everyone wants something to be done, would you enlist and fight Israel or are you simply posting on a board.

Someone should do something (just not me).

No it started in 1948. Hamas wouldn't even exist if it weren't for Israeli violence against the Palestinians, not to mention Bibi's suitcases of cash which kept them funded. Netanyahu is Frankenstein and Hamas is his monster. Let's also not forget that it was the US who pressured Israel to hold the elections which brought Hamas to power.

Do you mean the governments who were normalising relations with Israel before the Israeli government decided to commit genocide? Sure there are some hostile neighbours but despite repeated provocation from Israel they haven't launched all our war yet.

I can't see any public support for deploying British troops to the ME to join any side, although our politicians do seem to think they can do whatever the hell they want so who knows.

Israel is destroying itself, that's not our problem. We have squandered any moral authority we may have had by defending their right to commit genocide and supplying them with the means to do it.

Israel has made mistakes like this for years and its allies tolerate it unfortunately

Yep. Lots and lots of ‘mistakes’. All ‘regrettable’. Maybe the IDF should channel some of its vast defence budget into extra training for personnel in how to differentiate between…let’s say…armed enemy fighters and a marked food aid convoy….kids’ Ramadan fireworks and a rocket launcher. Just a couple off the top of my head.

Absolutely. I have just watched him on the BBC and that's his response, broadcast on our state network, to the Israeli army hunting down and murdering British citizens (*if Israeli press is to be believed about what happened)
James Henderson, ex marine aid worker ,murdered running from car to car by an Israeli soldier sitting safe and snug somewhere pressing buttons. If anyone didn't believe reports of the IDF doing this to innocent civilians before, they will now.
