Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

Because she wants to. She wants to represent her country. The country of Israel can not be reduced to the outgoing conflict in Gaza. It's citizens are still going to work, eating at restaurants, going to the cinema and yes, going to music events like Eurovision. Going about their daily lives as much as possible, in spite of the oncoming conflict. It doesn't mean they're not suffering from the loss of their loved ones or worrying about the hostages or despairing at the lives lost in Gaza. That's what people do . Look at the world wars or Ukraine, the world doesn't stop turning. That's the reality.

That would all be fair enough if she wasn’t literally singing a song about the attack in October. She could have sung about love, peace, harmony, had a screaming fit, whatever, but no, she’s singing a song that is so politicised the lyrics and title have had to be changed 🤷‍♀️

silvernglow · 08/05/2024 23:12

OP claimed she's transgender and a PP claimed she changed her name to reference Golan Heights. Both based on absolutely fuck all.

Thanks for explaining I hadn't heard any of that.

Why would Israeli flags be confiscated. They have a singer in the ESC

Yes they have a singer in the ESC but that singer was not singing at the Tuesday semi final and I don't think the flag should be used to boo and disrespect another contestant in that way which is completely politicising things. I think it adds to the argument that Israel should not have been allowed compete, particularly if they are using it as an opportunity to disrespect other competitors.

And mentioned she’s joining idf not long after Eurovision is over. Another poor young lady forced to kill Innocent civilians

I read that flags that aren’t taking part have been allowed in despite the rules said the opposite. The few Palestinian ones that were displayed yesterday were quickly confiscated.

for a festival that says it’s not political … it’s making loads of discrimination based on their political ideas

I’ve read the singer yesterday was quite upset after being booed and didn’t even sit down at the green chairs where they sit down post singing

Well with any luck Israel won't get through tonight and the final can get back to being about the songs (if that is what you can call some of them!)

Februaryfeels · 09/05/2024 10:12

@Dulra There was no booing and disrespect. The pp posted a link to some random on Twitter who got roasted himself.

AutumnCrow · 09/05/2024 10:16

I'm intrigued by the flag rule, that only the flags of participating countries can be flown. Does that mean that if you are from a constituent country of the UK, or one of its crown dependencies, that are covered by BBC broadcasting (thus part of the EBU), that you can only wave the union flag (union jack), and not a Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish, English or Manx flag or one from Jersey or Guernsey despite them having their own parliaments or assemblies?

If the UK is ever represented by a Scots singer, would the historic Saltire really not be allowed? Or would that be OK, but the 'issues' around the Northern Irish flag would mean it/they wouldn't be should we be represented by a singer from, say, Belfast?

And who gets to decide?

With any luck Israel will get through tonight and show the world that death threats will not succeed with regards to an innocent young lady participating at a music festival.

Don't agree with death threats no place ever for them, but I have said before she is representing Israel at a competition, not just a singer at some random music festival

Another "Twitter video" where the person posting gets roasted for misrepresenting what is being said

Some of you would faint away if you heard what Graham Norton says

Do you have a longer audio clip @EasterIssland ? Because the audio commentary in the twitter link you posted does not attack their non-binary identity. Nor does it invite viewers to 'send curses and insults to the artist'.
The screenshot you posted is either a deliberate mistranslation by that Twitter poster (not by you!), or else he posted an audio clip that cuts off the offending comments.

I doubt they will. This poster has a habit of knee jerk posting propaganda from Twitter and other SM which later turns out to be not true with no further comment when it’s pointed out. So much for fact checking before posting.

How low can these pro Palestinian supporters go in making a young female singer fear for her life for singing in a music competition?

Pretending they advocate for peace but threatening violence.

I hope people vote for her just because of this. I know I will be.

This is on Israel they should never have entered the competition putting their act in this position. I don't condone violence or threats of violence but it was obvious this is what would happen. If Israel had any cop on they would have sat the competition out this year.

alesl360 · 09/05/2024 19:15

@PurpleChrayn Israel hardly leading the way for LGBTQ rights- you know same sex marriage is illegal in Israel right?
As for people in Gaza, my guess is they're a little too busy getting killed right now to think about the rights of trans performers, and before that blockaded, starved, bombed..
The ignorance is shocking

There’s nothing low about Pro-Palestine supporters, we just don’t support genocide enablers.

It’s deliberate on their part, they want this attention so they can play the victim…again 🙄

It's a singing competition

Leave them alone
