Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

1000 replies

Redebs · 04/03/2024 09:21

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

@Parkingt111 I specifically said "attitudes like this" -i.e. victim blaming. The Israeli government have been made all too aware following the protests, social media propaganda, BBS refusing to call Hamas terrorists, etc, etc , etc that there are many many Hamas apologists and blaming Israel for the Hamas attacks.

You cannot expect them to stop before they have eradicated the threat. It's their state and their security. Not mine. Not yours.

I can't begin to imagine the trauma of living next door to a territory that to destroy you.

Start putting the message out that Hamas should surrender and all hostages will be released before I will even remotely begin to subscribe to your views. Then I will start believing that all of the protests are not anti-Semitic based.

Mind you, having read the comments section on Daily Mail and Telegraph articles, it is clear what people really think. Some of them are truly abhorrently right wing.

I think everyone knows that the message is out that people want peace.
Hamas agreed to a ceasefire agreement early last week
The same ceasefire agreement that Israel agreed to in April but now don’t agree to
So yes time to get that agreement actioned and it’s time for Peace.

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 13:11

@keenforhelp you specifically said the attitudes ie victim blaming (which you said Eden has been subjected to) is one of the reasons why the 'IDF are 'determined to finish the job'

I agreed that the treatment she recieved by some was appalling like the booing and protests outside her hotel room, but disagree that it is one of the causes for the ongoing attacks.

Perhaps it was badly worded by yourself but that isn't why they are attacking Rafah so why would you link the two? And yes it is distasteful to do so in my opinion.

No, let's not do this. Let's not go on a thread about Eurovision and start pretending that Hamas agreed to a ceasefire agreement. They offered a ridiculous counter proposal and pretended they'd agreed to Israel's suggestions. And as always, people lapped it up! No one ever questions anything Hamas says, it's all sorts of messed up. But please, take your nonsense somewhere else. This thread doesn't need any Hamas lies and propaganda.

I don't get the outrage at Ireland's song. Haven't these people seen a goth before?

It's coming mainly from the pro-israeli posters they don't seem to like the Irish and their ambassador to Ireland and Netanyahu considers us all to be antisemitic so we are obviously fair game for a bashing.

@Parkingt111 your failure to comprehend my clearly stated opinion does not make it badly worded I'm afraid. I did not say death threats to Eden were the cause of Rafah attacks. I did not link them - this is in your mind only.

The IDF know only too well that that death threats (which you deliberately did not reference - just the booing and protests) is indicative of why they will finish the job as it is merely just one of many thousands of anti-Semitic incidents that means the Jewish State needs to be protected. And it will.

That clear enough for you?

All report Hamas agreement to the April agreement originally approved by Israel. Some of them posted the agreement details too. ( I recall reading a revision to the wording from ceasefire to cessation of noice however……but can’t recall which of the news outlets stated that )

So
Not nonsense….
Not Hamas lies….
Not making it up or pretending…..What’s the point of that

Im not being rude either.

So are we just pretending that they weren't receiving hateful messages etc from people in Ireland earlier this year and that people were complaining to RTE about the choice?

I personally didn't like the song and found it all creepy, just like I did Lordy back in the day. It's very much not my cup of tea. I would never have voted for them. I mean, my favourite act this year was Finland. I'm sure we can agree that was a very different vibe from Ireland! Not every single decision in my life is based on what someone thinks about Israel 😂 I mean, I liked the Swiss performance and they aren't exactly pro-Israel.

Seriously, not everything has to always be a negative thing about Israel or those who support the country. People are allowed to be outraged by a performance that was always going to be divisive.

I'm sorry but it isn't really clear. I'm going ask you to explain the following so don't jump down my throat if I interpret it wrong

Are you suggesting that Palestinians will have to pay the price for a antisemitic incidents worldwide? I am not sure how else to interpret this paragraph

I'm not pretending anything but the delight people are taking in criticising and slagging off Bambie on this thread are nasty and bitchy and beyond just not liking her song or style. In all the discussion about Israel being in the Eurovision on this thread not one person criticised Eden or bitched about her. I personally feel a lot of the nasty comments about Bambie are because she is Irish. We have been subjected to months of pretty nasty comments from the Israeli ambassador about us as a country and our people so maybe it's just starting to hit a nerve.

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 14:12

No, not at all. Your explanation further actually makes it worse, but as its veering going off topic il leave it be.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/specifics-of-deal-hamas-says-it-accepts-and-that-israel-says-do-not-meet-its-terms/

"Among the differences: The Hamas proposal would see the release of 33 Israeli hostages, alive or dead, whereas the Israeli text requires the release of 33 living hostages; the Hamas proposal removes the veto Israel demanded on the release of certain Palestinian security prisoners, and raises the number of Palestinian security prisoners to be freed; the Hamas proposal provides for the free movement of Gazans back to the north of the strip, without security checks as required by Israel to prevent Hamas gunmen returning."

So, not the same deal.
Absolute nonsense.
Hamas lies.

Unless you think 33 live hostages is the same as 33 dead ones?

It's nothing to do with Bambie being Irish so you can stop trying to make it about that. For me, it's really more to do with them being a talentless, attention seeking idiot. I thought their act was terrible but strangely entertaining in its cringe-worthiness. I couldn't care less what nationality they are. Does that make you feel less victimised?

I mean, I also don't like how Bambie Thug was trying to manipulate the EBU into disqualifying Israel by waiting until Saturday to complain about comments made on Tuesday which it seems weren't actually incitement to violence as alleged. And how they put on a big show about crying when Israel qualified. So yes, it's more than not liking their song and performance, I also just don't like them. It's got nothing to do with their nationality though 😅 That's just a ridiculous thing to suggest. If someone has suggested not liking them because they're Irish I'd suggest reporting the comment as that's clearly not an ok thing to say.

LargeAmericano · 14/05/2024 14:49

No it was nothing to do with Bambi Thug being Irish. It was to do with her awful attention seeking get up and what she was trying to portray (which a lot of people were turned off by), indecipherable and rubbish song, ridiculous name and that she was obviously a troublemaker trying to hitch a ride on the trendy Israel hate bandwagon to get herself more coverage.

As opposed to the beautiful voice, good song, ethereal beauty, dignity and courage of Eden Golan.

Signed an Irishwoman.

Februaryfeels · 14/05/2024 14:49

@Dulra I don't just think people who are outraged at Bambi thug are pro Israeli

Even the russians are joining in and using it as "proof" of the degenerate west

0palfrootee · 14/05/2024 14:51

"Supporters of Israel hate Irish people" is truly a new low for this board. I mean wtaf.

It’s quite the leap.

Also @Dulra just to give you a heads up, Bambie Thug would probably consider you repeatedly misgendering them as threatening amd intimidating hate speech.

Sure, but you can probably see how others might disagree? And accept that it's not because the performer is Irish.

If that's what the Russians think is degenerate, the Scottish goth scene would blow their minds.

@25milesfromhome thank you for highlighting how I mis-gendered them.

I genuinely don't know how you know this? I have not seen this reported anywhere. AFAIK she made a complaint it was before the Saturday though, but the EBU from what I've heard, changed their decision on it on the Saturday and that is what she then complained about.

You clearly haven't seen what the Israeli government and ambassador to Ireland have said about the Irish so yes it is a low but unfortunately not a baseless statement

Maybe try a little bit harder with the pronouns after having just been made aware of it by another poster.

It's possible complaints were made about it before Saturday, that's just not what I've read. Happy to be proven wrong though, in which case I won't hold that against them anymore. Still don't like them though 🤷🏻‍♀️ I also didn't like the Norwegian song but did think the Spanish one should have done better than they did. I have all sorts of opinions about the performances not influenced by the nationality of the performer in question.
