Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

1000 replies

Redebs · 04/03/2024 09:21

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

And I'm pretty sure it's the contestants who were bullying another contestant who brought Eurovision into disrepute.

Walkaround · 14/05/2024 05:33

Yes, you missed the fact Israel’s participation brought Eurovision into disrepute.

Yes, it's a shocking state of affairs.
Let's review:
Ireland's act stopped just short of sacrificing a goat onstage and was so offensive to some members of their own country they started a campaign to prevent Bambie Thug representing Ireland.

Finland's act, naked from the waist down onstage, appeared to spend the rest of the evening displaying his ball sack out the side of his denim hot pants.

Netherland's act disqualified for allegedly violent/criminal behaviour that has led to an accelerated prosecution.

UK's act appeared to be recreating some sort of orgy in a grotty public toilet.

A group of white Europeans expended an unreasonable amount of time and energy harassing a member of an ethnic minority with a healthy dash of cultural appropriation thrown in.

The customary political voting from the jurors, which breaks Eurovision rules.

It was definitely the inclusion of Israel that lowered the tone and brought the whole venerable institution into disrepute, for shame.

GivePeaceAChance · 14/05/2024 09:37

Humdingerydoo · 14/05/2024 06:34

No, Bambie Thug has repeatedly accused the Israeli commentators of inciting violence against them three times. So not about the negativity. Unless, of course, they're lying? Or there were other comments made that just haven't made it to any of the media?

I did read the ‘inciting violence’ stuff somewhere as well but it’s the fact the commentators words could sway how people vote that is the key issue.
You can’t be seen or heard to be negatively influencing voters.

Maybe there’s another official complaint as well re violence. I don’t know that that necessarily affects future attendance ?

Nearly spilled my coffee laughing.

Oh boy, then you should hear what some of the commentators were saying about Israel 😳 Including the host nation Sweden. If it really is swaying of the voters they're worried about. Which it isn't, as the actual accusation is incitement to violence three times.

Really! That’s disgusting!

Graham Norton is all I heard as I watched it in the UK and tbh I mentally switched off when Sweden were talking, I just didn’t find them funny or interesting.
Wow……I will have to see if I can find that. Wish I’d been more attentive now.

I’ve just read some updates on this and it’s being investigated and discussed at their next meeting.
The inciting violence is to do with Bambi saying
The words of the commentators ( ie from the PP attached article I assume ) incited or could incite violence against her.
( so yes you are correct it’s not Bambi who is making accusations re swaying opinions and votes…..apologies ) I suppose they are allowed to feel however they feel, no one can change how someone feels but the EBU are investigating anyway.

Scirocco · 14/05/2024 10:16

I don't get the outrage at Ireland's song. Haven't these people seen a goth before?

From the words that have been reported, surely you can agree the accusation of incitement to violence is absurd? So unless more was said, Bambie is the one who has been trying to influence votes by publicly accusing Israel of something they didn't do.

Shes also a witch so tbh if someone was insulting the way I dress because of my beliefs ( I assume that’s so ) I’d find it extremely hurtful!

According to news stuff in Ireland they can be over dramatic 🤪🤪 and a little precious. So I’m not surprised they feel how they feel.

So as I said, they can feel however they want to feel. That’s their right.

Their right to feel how they want to feel doesn't trump Israel's right to not be publicly and falsely accused of something. Their feelings aren't above the law.

Absolutely I agree with that and I would expect an apology from Bambi and / or Ireland if the ‘investigation’ concludes against her.

Personally, I think Lordi did the shouty cursed death metally vibe better (and won) many years ago. I don’t want anyone to think my only purpose here is to constantly stan Finland, I just admire their commitment.

The whole show is a dive to the bottom to continuously go lower and lower. Eurovision is a collection of oddballs most of whom have no idea who them/ they/zee/zagzag are. Goodness why anyone watches it, it feels like a circus.

The young woman from Israel came out well in the voting.

keenforhelp · 14/05/2024 12:07

So many attempts on this thread to victim blame Eden Golan.

Attitudes like this are why the IDF are determined to finish the job (note that I am not supporting all IDF operations).

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 12:12

@keenforhelp Why would the harassment of Eden Golan spur on the IDF to continue their brutal attacks on Rafah (or 'finish the job' as you like to call it) I can't see why one is the cause for the other?

Parkingt111 · 14/05/2024 12:19

@keenforhelp I think there are many who have opposing political views who can agree that the harassment and treatment she has been subjected to is wrong and unacceptable.

I do think it's extremely distasteful to link that to one of the causes of the IDF's operations in Rafah that is causing a huge amount of distress and trauma aswell as casualties and deaths of ordinary Palestinians.

I’d also add I do believe that it all relies on EBU and how they’ve handled the things. If many competitors (Eden included) have raised how they’ve felt during the process and and the harassment they’ve been subjected too and nothing has changed yet then they’ve got a problem. They shouldn’t normalise that people go to a competition for them to be bullied and harassed by opponents.

in the last few days many competitors that hadn’t spoken yet had raised how the environment was really hostile. EBU should make sure next years competition is not as hostile.
