Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

Zero fucks given when a genocide is happening, I’ll save my sympathy for them thanks.

So you’re ok with bullying an individual who happens to represent a country whose government you disagree with.

Where have I said that? I’ve said Israel as a country shouldn’t have been allowed in. Do not twist my words.

Not twisting your words- just trying to see if you thought the bullying of the Israeli singer was ok - because I got the impression you gave “zero fucks” about it.

The mismatch between the jury votes and the televotes was really interesting, including in the case of some of the jury and anti-Israel social
media favourites who’d engaged in attempts to harass and ostracise. It must be hard to accept that their worldview and accompanying behaviour perhaps isn’t as righteous as they’ve been led to believe by a very vocal minority.

It’s encouraging to see love triumphing over hate because the worldwide public voters really showed Israel the love last night. l’d hope this means the majority of the viewing public can distinguish between genuine condemnation of what’s happening in Gaza and Eurovision participants and spectators using it to justify their blatant prejudice and scapegoating on display throughout the week in Malmö.

Handy chart to illustrate the difference:

There's been no proof of genocide.
The missing word in your sentence is "yet". Time will tell, except the Palestinians in Gaza don't have the luxury of time.
Bombing/starvation/diseases/lack of water/ lack of meds is what they are facing on a daily basis. The odds are against them.
I hope you never find yourself in their situation.

You are showing your bigotry. Cancel culture and boycotting are symptomatic of nothing but bullying and intolerance. You aren't viewing this in the wider scheme of things.

I’m not sure in this country or others. In my country many of the comments I saw regarding voting Eden wasn’t because of her. They were coming from right supporters that wanted to shut lefties up. Nothing to do with music.

It must be difficult to accept that Eden didn’t win.

Not at all, I didn't think Eden had the winning song. No need to be petty about it.
ETA Must be particularly difficult to accept that Spain televoters awarded Israel 12 points.

As it must be difficult to accept the public elevated her score.

It would be great if it was about love. Somebody sent me a twitter link from Tommy Robinson yesterday where he demeaned the ‘thing’ that won and said the Israeli contestant should have won. The extreme right wing were definitely at large to some degree unfortunately.

I am not really good with twitter so don’t know if it’s fake or not so I won’t link it. But if true, is this the kind of person Israel wants supporting them? I am not sure all the votes came from a place of love.

There are some recently unpleasant types supporting both sides currently and it seems to be about who they hate more.

I doubt the poster will find themselves in that position. They don't rely on Hamas stealing aid, sent for civilians. Moreover for other 'civilians to pinch and sell on.

EasterIssland · 12/05/2024 18:26

This is what I meant about the televotes. It doesn’t mean Eden was liked by more people. It means Eden was liked by more people that were willing to spend their money on her. In my country I’ve seen several tweets about people paying 20€ in order to vote for Eden 20 times to f*ck the lefties in the government.

also like someone said in here many people have been boycotting this year (25% less this year in the uk saw the final comparing to last year) so probably less votes were casted for those that wouldn’t have been for Eden.

But if winning that bit is what makes Eden supporters happy , then you can have that. The reality is that nemo won the competition

Ah, the far right rhetoric. Heaven help him that he supports Jewish people. How far right of him.

I think the pro Palestinian lobby are very vocal but actually a lot of people silently support Israel.

Support for Israel is very different thing to support for what the Israeli government is doing in Gaza.
I support Israel.
No way on earth do I support Israels actions in Gaza, I don't
understand how anyone can. How can anyone look at the killing of what? What is it now? About 15,000 kids? How any can look at that and think 'yes, well done
Israel, that's the right thing to do'.

If the support for Israel is different to what the IDF are doing, why was there a boycott against Israel entering Eurovision?

Unsure whether this is what you meant. But just checked their account. These tweets can be found at the moment in their account.

What do you think those types thinks about Palestinian people? Do you think they like them much? I am sure you aren’t stupid.

Don’t worry. I know you will pretend not to see the issue.

Another example of your bias. You're choosing to compare how many people in the UK watched the final this year to last year when it was held in the UK 😂 So obviously there was more interest last year. Maybe compare it to before COVID so a normal year when everyone wasn't stuck at home and the UK wasn't the host nation

Humdingerydoo · 12/05/2024 18:35

Also the idea that only pro-Israel people voted multiple times and that people who hate Israel didn't do the same but for Ireland is insane. The song was awful but still scored reasonably well?! And Ukraine - you don't think they're still getting sympathy votes? But it's only a problem if it's for Israel, right? Check your bias.

His feelings have been made publicly clear on Palestinians. None of that has any bearing on Eden representing her country.

Ukraine was absolutely awful.
