Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

If the singer is actually a woman, then I do apologise for the mistake. I can't find the online reference that made me think she wasn't, so I might well be mistaken.

We were subjected to a man in a dress a few years back calling himself a translation of 'Miss Sausage' (Wurst) so maybe that's where the error came from if that's the case.

Obviously what upset me was the gloating nature of the lyrics of a song that celebrates the massacre of tens of thousands of Palestinian civillians. I find it intolerable that this propaganda is allowed on supposedly independent TV channels across Europe.

There is no gloating in her song and I am sure you will be pleased to know that in the semi final she received 30% of the votes. ‘We will dance again’ is the latest slogan to support the return of the hostages.

None of us knows whether she would want to.

Terrorists came into her country and brutally tortured and slaughtered 1200 innocent people in their homes, and at a festival. And have said they want to do it again and again. Polls (limited of course) suggest that more than half the population of Gaza supported that massacre.

The wider world largely supports Israel' s right to self-defence, but plenty of people worldwide were cheering that slaughter of innocents the day after it happened, before Israel had retaliated at all. A reminder of the anti-semitism which murdered 1/3 of her ethnic group worldwide 70 years ago (2/3 of her ethnic group in Europe murdered in 5 years, in some countries 90% of them), and is clearly still around today, usually hidden but ready to come out whenever there's an excuse.

Even if she doesn't support the methods being used in the war, or the deaths of civilians in Gaza, I don't think it's a given that she wouldn't be willing to do her military service and do what she can to remove terrorists who have repeatedly (still every day now) shown they want to slaughter her entire people and destroy her country.

Was waiting for the accusations of antisemitism and reminder of the holocaust, a stick widely used to beat down anyone who dare speak up against Israel’s atrocities. Shameful.

Is there a word for Israeli people rubbing hands in glee at the prospect of beach front property in Gaza?

So trying to get his accreditation details so they can report him for behaving inappropriately? Or is there more missing from your screenshot? Although yes, I don't approve of the intimidating aspect of being 3 against 1.

Did anything happen? Was the Spanish journalist hurt or just a bit scared? Has he reported the Israeli journalists? Did they report him for his behaviour? I obviously can't find any mention of this anywhere else so can't do my own research on it.

(I said obviously because I don't speak Hebrew or Spanish)

Finally found something in English

https://wiwibloggs.com/2024/05/10/rtve-requests-eurovision-organisers-ensure-press-freedom/281633/

*“In eleven years that I have been covering #Eurovision I have never felt so unsafe at the festival.

“Several Israeli journalists have decided to intimidate and scold me for having shouted #FreePalestine after the Isra-hell rehearsal. They are not going to scare us.

“They are not going to silence us.”*

So does he not see the hypocrisy in saying he shouldn't have to feel intimidated at work while participating in the intimidation of the 20 year old Israeli? I mean, I agree with him. He shouldn't have been intimidated. But a bit pot, kettle, black no?

Italy where the government is of far right persuasion, a bit like Israel ? A government voted in, which pains me as my grandparents had to flee Mussolini.

And don’t forget the furthest right of them all - Hamas.

It’s always shocking, but not surprising, to see the bombardment of screenshots being posted here as “proof” of how “evil” Israeli’s are.

What on earth has this to do with Eurovision ??

That is derailment on stilts !!

His protestations might have been more convincing if he didn't use the word Isra-hell.

Are you happy that today an Israeli journalist tried provoking someone from the Netherlands team and another 3 harassed a Spanish journalist ?

regarding joost there is still no confirmation about what has happened and I’ve seen 2 different rumours : 1 hit an Israeli member that mocked his deceased family. 2. Hit a Swedish photographer. Nothing yet confirmed but they’ve not taken part in todays show.

Palestinian men enter Israel and rape, torture, murder and mutilate 1,400 men, women and children, and take hostages.

Response: Either openly celebrating it, or telling Israel that it’s only a terrorist attack, that every country deals with terrorism, that no country ever responds and that it isn’t that big a deal.

An Israeli journalist tried provoking someone from the Netherlands team and another 3 harassed a Spanish journalist.

Response: Terrible, barbaric, awful and unacceptable! There need to be consequences!

I feel like I’m living in an alternate reality when I come onto this board. It’s beyond shocking.

The only person I've seen say that thing about an Israeli mocking his dead parents is you. Everywhere else is saying he hit a photographer. But I can see which one of those two fits your narrative of choice better.

Are you aware of what the Dutch contingent have been doing to the Israeli contingent all week? Like, maybe it's possible that the Israelis had enough and were responding in like to provocations from the Dutch team? Doesn't make it right as it was still incredibly immature but definitely puts it all in a very different light.

I know you prefer to only focus on the wrong-doings of one side, but if you ever get bored of half-facts you could try seeing things from both perspectives.

This was not long after it had happened. There was not much info (and there yet is not much) hence my comment about im unsure if true.

Wait, so you're saying he was provoked and then you say there's rumours (e.g. random people on twitter, where you get all your information) it happened.

When I wrote the comment 4h ago that was the only thing I could read on Twitter hence my comment about unsure if true.

there is still (unless it’s been released now which I’m unsure) comment from ebu.

Few tweeter comments. One from hours ago and another one from few mins ago.

No. The person from Netherlands that was provoked by an Israeli journalist was another one. I posted a video about this afternoon

Lots of misrepresentation and never any acknowledgement that they are wrong.

It's tiresome and actually a bit sad that people have the time or inclination to spend their life trawling the internet for Israeli = bad tweets

You really need to revise on the difference between a political party and a terrorist organisation.

You might need to have words with Ismail Haniyeh. He seems to think he's a politician, as do his supporters.

And obviously the Hamas people keep getting their fatality figures from in Gaza, who were are assured aren't terrorists. They are merely government officials.

I really don’t.

Hamas being a terrorist organisation isn’t universally accepted. It depends on who you ask.

mollyfolk · 10/05/2024 23:57

@Humdingerydoo - do you think the fatality figures are incorrect then? I wasn’t aware that there is a dispute over them.

Seemingly individual Israelis aren't allowed to defend themselves or retaliate against abuse either, not just the country itself. Some of the behaviour I've seen towards the Israeli Eurovision entry is just bullying pure and simple. Its pathetic. I hope Israel win just to stick it to the idiots.
