Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

I think if she sang a really high note rather than screamed I would prefer it better. I like her though she is fab

Yes me too.

I have heard that the main sponsor for Eurovision is moroccanoil which is an Israeli company. Explains a lot....

What exactly does it explain?

Humdingerydoo · 10/05/2024 11:21

For those who seem adamant there were no terrorist supporters protesting yesterday, you really don't know Sweden very well. On the 8th of October 2023 the Swedish Prime Minister even made a statement about how deplorable the amount of celebrations they'd seen on the streets of Sweden following the massacre. Sweden is full of terrorist supporters. Malmö is very much not an exception to that.

Humdingerydoo · 10/05/2024 11:23

In fact, already on the 7th of October they'd arranged a massive caravan to travel through the streets of Malmö the following day to celebrate.

Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?
SharonEllis · 10/05/2024 11:38

Thanks @Humdingerydoo I didn't know that but its consistent with the reactions to 7 October in many places. So, it would be odd if at least some of these people were not protesting Israel at Eurovision wouldn't it.

EasterIssland · 10/05/2024 10:29

Cool. All good. Apologies. I must have dreamt the boos then

Not sure you dreamt them, but rather you purposely only watched videos filmed by those booing, making it seem as though it was much more prevalent than it actually was in order to confirm your pre-existing bias. There's even a name for it - confirmation bias. If the microphone is right next to someone booing, that is all you'll hear. That's just common sense.

LordPercyPercy · 10/05/2024 11:44

Malmö in fact leads the way on that in Sweden. That and gun crime. Oh, and hand grenades.

Even if Israel killed every single Palestinian in Gaza and the West Bank and cleared the land for Israeli settlement, posters would still claim it was antisemitic to object.

If only there was a word for making up something terrible you imagine Israel doing - but they aren't actually.

Oh wait...

Is there a word for Israeli people rubbing hands in glee at the prospect of beach front property in Gaza?

Daniella Weiss

Jewish settlers set their sights on Gaza beachfront

They see an opportunity to push for a return of Jewish settlements to the Palestinian territory.

And you definitely don't.
I don't understand how people can find it so shocking that there are a lot of people all across the world, from all walks of life and many different countries that are upset and horrified at the children and innocent civilians being killed, starved and displaced. What kind of society would we be if we didn't. Definitely not one I would want to be part of.

So nothing to do with Israel having paid the broadcasting fees that were due etc? You think Eurovision were struggling that much to find a sponsor? Lol.

Dulra · 10/05/2024 09:38

Well clearly the Eurovision voters have no taste if they have Ireland as No. 5 her song is awful and I am Irish

I've a feeling the vast majority of the world does not watch or vote at Eurovision @Dulra You know I have no idea who has ever won it, except for Ukraine, which was well publicised. I think it's well known to be appalling for anyone who cares about music. So those who do watch it are probably not particularly musical and watch it because it's funny and trashy and harmless, or because they strongly support a particular country. I actually don't care who wins it. If it's the Israel competitor she has done well in that arena.

Oh, you seem to be getting confused. I was laughing at the reply to an outrageous comment made by a previous poster where they clearly didn't understand how wrong on so many levels what they were saying actually was. Somehow you've made that into me being at fault, which is an interesting twist on it all.

I know!
I don't know how anyone can overlook, justify or defend the killing of thousands and thousands and thousands of children in Gaza. Likewise, the killing and kidnapping of the people in Israel.

Why Israel were allowed compete

I don't know anything about this company, but I expect the issue will be explored in years to come. Eurovision will have to prove itself as unbiased and as truly giving a fair chance to all the hopeful contenders. It probably won't last if countries lose faith in that.

I don't understand, are you under the impression that Moroccanoil is owned by Israel or something? It's just a company. Lots of companies sponsor lots of things. I believe TikTok and Royal Caribbean are also sponsoring Eurovision. They're companies, not countries. Hope that helps clarify matters.

stormy4319trevor · 10/05/2024 13:00

@Humdingerydoo As I said, I know nothing about the company, and not particularly motivated to look. I expect if there's any suggestion of possible bias it will be looked at. Of course companies have interests which sometimes coincide with politics, I think that 'happens a fair amount. But I've no idea about this company, merely responding to the mention of it.

I believe it’s an Israeli brand.

Yes, produced in Israel. Head office is in NY.

Either way, the company is not owned by Israel or something 😅 So not sure why Dulra thinks Israel is only in Eurovision because of Moroccanoil. Hopefully she'll realise how ridiculous that is and retract that comment.

I believe it’s an Israeli brand.

It’s the 4th year of sponsoring. Were you worried about bias in previous years?
