Israeli Eurovision: how low can you go?

Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

My understanding from what I've read and seen in interviews has been that she is supportive of military action and intends to join the IDF in the near future. Neither of those are things with which I agree.

Her country has been attacked in the most awful manner so not unsurprising she supports defending it. I haven’t heard any criticism of Ukrainians who support of their country. Also joining the IDF is compulsory for young people in Israel.

she is an amazing young woman imo. To stand up and perform while terrorist supporters scream for her blood is incredibly brave. And she has remained calm and diplomatic throughout.

Terrorist supporters? so you are going there? Being pro-Palestinian does not make you a terrorist supporter. Would you like me to call her and you genocide supporters and supporting child murderers?

Current odds:

Well clearly the Eurovision voters have no taste if they have Ireland as No. 5 her song is awful and I am Irish

Why are you suggesting that she might not have written her song?

I'm not, I am asking has she. Most singers don't write their own songs they perform other peoples, it is a genuine question because I didn't know. In the case of Eurovision it is actually the songwriter that wins not the singer

greenlettuce · 10/05/2024 09:44

Surely any of the competitors can hold a personal view about any issue - we don't have a right to know as that is personal. I don't think demonstrations should be allowed in the area nor people to make political statements - that said by wearing specific colours or using particular words people do. It is increadibly hard to know where to draw the line but where ever it is drawn it needs to apply to all - not just to the side that someone agrees with

No, she didn't write the song. I believe there are two competitions in Israel, one to choose a singer and one to choose the song. She was chosen on their version of X factor, I guess.

She performed very, very well.

would you stop . Especially as we watch more brutality play out in Rafah. Your disgusting pretending everyone who speaks out supports terrorism.

Humdingerydoo · 10/05/2024 10:06

Oh and the producers of the show have confirmed they didn't censor any boos etc for any of the performances. I imagine some posters on here will still not accept it because they obviously know better, but that's the statement the producers came out with anyway.

Parkingt111 · 10/05/2024 10:08

The protests outside her hotel room were horrible to see, I don't think that's right at all it must be terrifying for her.

She has a right to believe whatever she wants, and I have a right to disagree with her opinions and conclusions so far as I understand them. I hold no particular ill will against her. I haven't watched her live, but I saw her sing in a video previously and thought she was quite good. She'd probably be in with a shot at winning even without the political voting.

A very balanced post.

I have no doubt she did, I didn't and won't be watching it. Which is a shame because Ireland haven't qualified for the finals since 2018

I think if she sang a really high note rather than screamed I would prefer it better. I like her though she is fab

They are terrorist supporters though. That’s just a fact. And neither Eden nor I have done anything at all which could be described as “child murder” or “genocide” so you can call us names all you like but it doesn’t make it true or accurate.

Antisemites have been using pretend child murder to justify hate and violence towards Jews for literally hundreds of years. It’s no different now, sadly. It’s called blood libel. Mobs used to attack Jews in medieval times claiming we used children’s blood to make matzo and blaming us for everything that went wrong. They thought they were righteous then, same as now.

Regardless, Eden is a very brave young woman who is performing in a song contest. This has led to a screaming mob outside her hotel and following her wherever she goes and she needs a convoy of police cars and helicopters just to stop them murdering her. In Sweden. It’s horrifying but also her bravery is inspirational.

We're you there? Or are you getting all your information from anti-Semitic twitter as usual?

People screaming abuse at a young woman at a song contest because of a war they know nothing about are not “speaking out”. They are supporting the terrorists organizations that promote hate and violence towards Jewish people (and anyone else they don’t like such as LGB and women who don’t do as they’re told).

That's not what she said is it? She did not say everyone who speaks out. But it is undoubtedly true that there are regularly supporters of hamas in the demonstrations * - and regardless of intent thise who aggressivly attack this singer are tacitly parr of a general mood which at best refuses to criticise Hamas. Peaceful demontrators who recognised the hurt on both sides would not attack an individual in this way, would they?

  • we still seeing images of parachutes, & chants like 'resistance is justified' etc as well as people wearing Hamas signifiers.

same way I dreamt that the interview after the festival was quite stressful for those involved and many of them didn’t seem comfortable . All in my dreams

What are you on about? It is 2024 a hell of a lot of mad stuff happened during medieval times. Women were burnt at the stake for being witches

I think there are many, many people who believe any objection about the 35,000+ people killed by Israel in Gaza are terrorist supporters and antisemitic. There is no nuance.

Kendodd · 10/05/2024 10:39

Even if Israel killed every single Palestinian in Gaza and the West Bank and cleared the land for Israeli settlement, posters would still claim it was antisemitic to object.

Dulra · 10/05/2024 10:41

I have heard that the main sponsor for Eurovision is moroccanoil which is an Israeli company. Explains a lot....
