Israeli entry in Eurovision song contest is likely to be a song called 'October Rain' sung by trans-identifying 'Eden 'Golan'.

My previous thread was deleted for pointing this out.

Since when has Israel been in Europe anyway?

It isn't. But it doesn't have to be in order to be eligible - any member of the EBU is eligible (and Australia because they're Eurovision superfans).

Comedycook · 09/05/2024 22:13

Just turned it on and Israel have qualified for the grand final!

Israel isn’t in Europe, but then neither are Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia or Australia.

I am dissolving in laughter at some of the comments claiming that the EBU are amplifying the cheers for Israel. It was a top performance and rightly acclaimed in the arena.

Well done Eden - She is very talented and a victory for democracy tonight. Brilliant performance and she deserved it on merit.
Now Malmo, please leave her alone in peace to prepare for Saturday.

🤣🤣🤣

I know, it's getting a bit pathetic now isn't it? Clearly Eden Golan had a fair amount of support or she wouldn't have made it to the final. But I guess some people have made it their life mission to twist literally everything positive about Israel to a negative. It's all a bit weird. I'm not sure how denying she did well will help the Palestinians.

mollyfolk · 09/05/2024 22:27

Ouch it’s a bit tough on the singer the booing. She’s not responsible for Gaza. I wouldn’t be booing her myself. It would be nice if Eurovision could transcend politics. But agree it is hypocritical that Russia was not allowed take part.

It’s pathetic what ebu has done to protect Israel during the competition. The videos from the tv and the ones from inside the arena are different because ebu has used technology to cover the protests and silenced audiences microphones

also she might have done well for you. Not everyone will have liked her from a music pov

She’s not responsible for Gaza. Yet she’ll be joining idf post Eurovision. So she’ll be responsible for Gaza as of next week

I'm really looking forward to your evidence showing that they treated Israel differently from all the other performances. I'm assuming you have it to hand already?

There's a 24sec long video here which doesn't show anywhere near as much booing as you're trying to portray. It's almost as though if you're filming something while simultaneously booing, that will be the sound you hear on your video. However if you're not the one booing, other sounds can be heard

Well, yes. Everyone wants peace. That's not exactly a controversial statement.

Plus, you know, she got the votes.

Has any other singer been boycotted by the audience?.

That's awful!
Poor girl, none of what her government is doing is her fault.

Again, don't really know what you specifically mean by that or what point you're attempting to make. But it doesn't really matter, because you've been trying to imply all along that the song wasn't good yet she got enough votes to get through. So it can't have been too bad eh?

Is that authentic? Are those people genuinely outside her hotel room?

I’ve not even spoken about her song (I’ve not even heard it so I don’t know whether she’s good or bad)
I’ve said you might like her music and others might not.

Can she refuse to join IDF?
Or refuse to serve in Gaza or use weapons against people in Gaza (or the West Bank for that matter).

This. That poor young woman has done NOTHING to deserve all the vitriol. People should hang their heads in shame. Hmm

Yes., she can refuse to enlist. She would have to most likely face consequences though.

She’s only one person though. I’m just not comfortable with booing a performer like that, no matter what they believe, she’s not pulling any strings.
