France is calling for a permanent ceasefire.
Netanyahu is unsurprisingly not happy that the US didn't use their veto like they usually do.

"Not happy" is a bit of an understatement. He appears to be throwing a veritable toddler tantrum - which seems a tad immature for a bloke in his 70s!

Yeah, okay ... amongst all the horror, which I know perfectly well will continue to be horrific: oh, boy, do I experience schadenfreude at how angry it seems to make him!

He has definitively taken his ball home, hasn't he?

A bit of a surprise here

UN security council resolution calling for Gaza ceasefire passes

The UN security council has passed a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, avoiding a veto by any of the major powers.

US abstained

**

The US didn't veto? Omg! Even the US has had enough. Could this mean that the genocide is going to end soon?

I suspect what it means is more toys getting thrown out the pram, the US trying to backtrack (already trying to say it's non-binding), and the Israeli government trying to press ahead with a campaign which increasingly appears motivated by real estate, oil and hate.

I don't think it means that.

What I actually think it means is "we, the Biden administration, or - more specifically: the Biden re-election campaign - would really appreciate it if you could turn the volume down a notch or two, because: you're screwing with our re-election campaign here, and we do not like this! Please genocide more discreetly going forward!"

Israel is attacking Raffah tonight

Efacsen · 26/03/2024 07:33

@EasterIssland more so than usual? Rafah is attacked most/every night

PeasfullPerson · 26/03/2024 07:46

From the BBC this morning.

‘Israel claims that it always respects the laws of war and denies that it blocks humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
But evidence has piled up that the Israelis are not telling the truth, with children dying of hunger a few miles from ample stores of food in Israel and Egypt.’

They don’t care about UNs resolution

This is the reality of what Israel is doing (part 2)

Sorry @EasterIssland I misunderstood

And yes it's business as usual

This doesn't even scratch the surface of their atrocities.

The link is the last bit of the list. Sorry. If you go up it’s much much longer

That was quite the read. 😬 I don't understand how people could still support Israel at this point, but some people still do. 😬

This is very sad

‘Death at any moment’: fights break out as Gazans compete over airdropped aid
Armed gangs take food and water from desperate locals, as critics say airdrops are dangerous and merely designed to divert public anger

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/mar/30/death-at-any-moment-fights-break-out-as-gazans-compete-over-airdropped-aid

I don't find this sad as much as I find it utterly rage-inducing!

This is not "just happening" - Israel is actively doing this, with the support of so-called Western governments! There needs to be accountability!

Efacsen · 30/03/2024 14:17

Latest on the maritime route - it's been delayed for 10 days - ??reason

''The Associated Press (AP) has some more detail on the three-ship convoy that has left a port in Cyprus to deliver 400 tons of food and other supplies to Gaza.

International charity, World Central Kitchen said the vessels and a barge are carrying ready-to-eat items like rice, pasta, flour, legumes, canned vegetables and proteins. The charity said that is enough to prepare more than 1 million meals.

According to the AP, it also has a shipment of dates provided by the United Arab Emirates. Dates are traditionally eaten to break the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan.''

It is a fucking outrage. Shocking and scandalous. Shame on Israel for allowing people to starve like this.

Not "allowing" - "making"!

This is, literally, deliberate! Their government ministers said as much in mid-October - and they have been keeping word [with minimal but mostly negligible deviations based on international pressure and PR needs]!

There is NOTHING passive about this!

The state of Israel is deliberately starving and thirsting out two million people - whom it has also been bombing into oblivion along with their entire civil infrastructure!

If this phrasing makes you feel uncomfortable: well, it bloody SHOULD! Because this is literally insane!

Alicia Kearns, Chair of the UK's Foreign Affairs Select Committee, said earlier this month in a recording leaked by The Observer on Sunday that the British government received advice that Israel had breached international humanitarian law; however, it chose not to make it public.

UK legal advisers tell government Israel is breaching international law

“The Foreign Office has received official legal advice that Israel has broken international humanitarian law, but the government has not announced it,” Kearns said.

Time to do what should have been done a long time ago, Stop arms exports to Israel immediately.
