This needs to be urgently clarified by the British government. If the UK are aiding and abetting war crimes that is really serious and the members of the government responsible for that need to be fired immediately. The UK need to show that they take their responsibilities under International Law seriously if they expect other countries to do business with them.

Israel created 'Kill Zones' in Gaza. Anyone who crosses them is shot.
Their only crime was to cross an invisible line drawn by the IDF. Not Hamas but civilians.

Yep, they've done that before.

Dilemma8188 · 31/03/2024 21:11

I think I've seen them mentioned a few times here, please be aware, World Central Kitchen are a highly dubious outfit. They're actively collaborating with the Israeli army to build this so called pier, which Palestinians on the ground are saying is built from the rubble of their destroyed homes, without their consent and horribly with the rubble containing "bio waste", ie body parts of the people buried within it.

The owner of this organisation is Spanish. He’s not well loved in Spain for being sneaky. So whilst I’m glad they’re helping the citizens of Gaza … I’m unsure about their full intentions

post 7-10 he received loads of criticism for some comments they did against a pro Palestine Spanish government member

Dilemma8188 · 31/03/2024 22:06

Yes, there's that as well, and I remember a while back they dealt with internal lawsuits. For me, it's the fairly open collaboration with the IDF and the Gazans themselves criticising them that sealed it. Journalist Max Blumenthal has a piece about them, I think.

PeasfullPerson · 01/04/2024 10:54

That’s really interesting, thanks for sharing. I don’t know anything really about World Kitchen, but my initial thoughts when I heard of them were thank goodness food is going over, but also in the back of my mind I had the words ego and showboating floating about. It’s amazing what insights you can gain from a twitter post.

Dilemma8188 · 01/04/2024 19:15

Right! It's very hard to get accurate info in the UK, it's helped that I speak Arabic, and am corresponding with journalists on the ground. I know there's a flotilla departing from the UK soon... I really admire the courage of those getting on it!

Just saw this on twitter

Five international aid workers from the World Central Kitchen were killed when their vehicle was struck by an airstrike conducted Israel.

ill warn you if you see something related with this there is a pic of the killed workers in case you want to avoid triggering pics (hence why I’ve not linked the tweet, I believe the two links I’m linking don’t contain these images )

Cyprus president says maritime corridor for Gaza aid must keep operating

He described the World Central Kitchen (WCK), the charity group whose convoy was hit, as a “crucial partner” in this operation.

Aid ships heading from Cyprus to Gaza to turn back with undelivered aid

Cyprus’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Theodoros Gotsis says 100 tons (90 tonnes) of aid were unloaded before World Central Kitchen suspended operations after seven of its workers were killed in an Israeli strike earlier today.

About 240 tons (220 tonnes) of aid will be turned back.

KestrelMoon · 02/04/2024 17:49

This is incredibly sad and tragic. The only good that might come of it is the US and U.K. starting to believe MSF, WFP, WHO, UNWRA, Al Jazeera, ICRC, AENA, Jordan Field Hospital, to name a few that the shelling/airstrikes/bombs/snipers/drone attacks that have killed now hundreds of their humanitarian workers and journalists plus over 30k Gazan civilians are too many to be accidental & expected in a war zone.

IDF command and on the ground leadership is either criminally negligent and incompetent or criminally murderous. I think if it was unintentional, that is a mitigating factor, not an exonerating factor.

This is making Putin look good. That’s how badly Nethanyu is running this war. No wonder hundreds of thousands of Israelis have been protesting his government for months.

That video is old. But will come as no surprise to those of us who know that the state of Israel has been brutalising Palestinians for generations.

This on Channel 4 news about 20mins in
is very well worth watching.

They are interviewing Yuval Abraham the Israeli writer who has reported in 972 Magazine on the IDF’s use of AI, called “Lavender”, to select targets for the Israeli army.

The AI uses a base of mass surveillance of the entire Palestinian population to pick out Hamas targets. It creates lists of possible targets based on individuals being in a WhatsApp group which has a Hamas terrorist in it, moving house, or changing mobiles. But the lists which the AI creates can use an even wider net especially when it goes on to pick out many targets from the most minor Hamas operatives which it can choose for the most minor reasons.

The lists need human checking.

In practice though this human checking was not happening except at a basic level of listening to hear if the target’s voice was male or female. If female: wrong target. If male: target/Hamas. But this identification as ‘Hamas’ was not necessarily true.

Worse, once a target, that target’s house would be bombed. This was regardless of who else was inside, and the whole family could be . They did not even bother checking afterwards to see if they’d got the target himself. They’d move on to the next house to bomb. Individuals could be getting 4O houses a day to bomb off the AI list, and bombing one after the other.

At one stage the IDF were allowing for 15-20 people’s deaths as ‘collateral damage’ for every 1 ‘target’ ( correct target or not.)

The IDF claims not to have used this AI.
Yuval Abraham knows they have.

This is why I don’t agree with mass surveillance, people can’t be trusted to act ethically and responsibly with the information they collect.

AI as a replacement for human decisions is lazy and ineffective.

This isn’t clever, it is grim. Israel should know better than most that it’s not OK to subjugate a population and subject them to experiments.

That man who was shot, then tried to get up and keep carrying that sack instead of trying to just save himself, then fell down again, and again struggled back up with the sack, only to fall again …..where on the ground he was shot at again and again until he was dead! It is awful and like a nightmare.

What was the point? What would the IDF say they were doing?

*Could^ it possibly, by any chance, be one of their own wanting to get the aid sacks for themselves due to starvation and a breakdown of all order?

More about the Open Arms

Spanish NGO working with WCK stops using sea route to Gaza

NGO Open Arms said it and US charity World Central Kitchen (WCK) are suspending attempts to get aid to Gaza via sea after seven WCK workers were killed in an Israeli air raid on Monday.

The two charities had worked together in launching a maritime corridor of humanitarian aid to Gaza from Cyprus in March and had just completed unloading about a third of the shipped cargo when the convoy of WCK workers was attacked on April 1.

Not sure if this means the end of the maritime route to n gaza esp if US is still building the temporary port at Rimal
