I never said the soldier bares no responsibility. I suggested some reasons why he might have been shot. Perhaps all the soldiers are evil and quite happily shoot a 13 year old boy with fireworks and didn't have any concerns for safety at all. I don't know anymore than you do. I suggested some reasons why the soldier might have shot him.

Witnesses say he was firing fireworks into the sky near the separation border near his home with other children for Ramadan. Israeli soldier says that he felt endangered.

Edited

Well unfortunately the child playing with the fireworks can't give his account of what happened because he was killed by the soldier with the gun

Sad that a child out celebrating with fireworks near his home is at risk of bring shot.

Can’t remember which thread it was discussed at and who was asking I remember it was @Scirocco or @Parkingt111 , who was asking what items were refused entry in gaza

asked the Government what items of UK aid for Gaza have been denied entry by the Israeli Govt. Of them were 1,350 water filters, because apparently Israel says they are a 'threat'.

What threat does a water filter, supplied by the UK Government, have?

@EasterIssland I was trying to remember and it was water filters and solar lights thanks.

so because they’re at “war” it’s ok to kill children , is that what you’re saying. Or that they’re sadly side effects of the “war”

I see I never answered this incorrect assumption of yours. Not only did I not say this, it's interesting to see how you make things up. Why do that 🤔

I think what's more alarming is how Ben Gvir immediately came to his defence and even praised his actions of killing the defenceless Palestinian child. But atleast he was called out on it.
Unfortunately the shooting and killing of Palestinian children by heavy handed IDF soldiers is not something new. I would hope and think such an action would go against their code of conduct but I don't hold any hopes that the soldier will face any serious repercussions if I'm honest. They rarely ever do for disproportionate force against Palestinians, even when it leads to a fatality like it did towards this child.

The criticism of Ben Gvir is lip service only, likely "keeping up appearances" by Israel due to the ICJ case.

Gvir "praised Baruch Goldstein, the settler who massacred 29 Palestinian worshippers and wounded more than 100 others at Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron in 1994"

@AliceA2021 you're doing a lot of work to try and defend a solider shooting a 13 year old kid. It's hard NOT to think you might not mind too much about soldiers killing kids.

The idf are always given the benefit of the doubt aren't they? Even when it's kids being shot or people waving white flags.

I gave some possible reasons. I also repeated what the witnesses said and what the soldier said. I also said the soldier might be evil. I gave a number of possibilities but it's interesting how people on this board make assumptions.

No wonder these threads have the same old posters all the time, why would anyone bother to post unless parroting the same things 🤔 it's boring.

Still not doing any harm since the vast majority of MN avoid these threads. I can see why people don't bother with these threads, with the constant you said x so you meant y and z as well. It's quite tedious, although I imagine it makes some feel virtuous or better than.
Whatever.

The Open Arms is due to reach Gaza about now - details of the landing etc have been witheld for security reasons

Hopefully the aid will get ashore and be safely distributed to those in need

Efacsen · 14/03/2024 13:46

Open Arms has been further delayed by slow progress due to weight of the barge carrying the aid - now expected in a 'few days'

Another ship is being prepared in Cyprus by the same charity -will carry 300 tonnes of aid

Open Arms is carrying 200 tonnes = 500k meals
Population of northern Gaza is 300k
Cyprus to Gaza - 200+ miles

Driving 15-20 miles thro Israel and using a crossing into n gaza would be so much easier and take a couple of hours

Heard a news report on Irish radio talking about Israelis plan for Rafah. It said they were looking to move people onto islands off the coast. I can't find an article on it to post so I may have picked it up wrong. Anyone hear anything on it?

I read something on AJ about Israel moving people from Rafah to 'humanitarian islands' in central and west Gaza

Not sure what that will mean going by their definition of 'safe areas'

Efacsen · 14/03/2024 14:09

Here it is

Israeli military says it will push Rafah’s civilians to ‘humanitarian islands’

Israeli army spokesperson Daniel Hagari says that there are plans to push a significant amount of the more than one million displaced Palestinians in Rafah toward “humanitarian islands” in the centre of the Gaza Strip in advance of its planned offensive on the city.

“We need to make sure that 1.4 million people or at least a significant amount of the 1.4 million will move. Where? To humanitarian islands that we will create with the international community,” Hagari told reporters at a briefing.

Hagari said those islands would provide temporary housing, food, water and other necessities to evacuated Palestinians. He did not say when Rafah’s evacuation would occur, nor when the Rafah offensive would begin, saying that Israel wanted the timing to be right operationally and to be coordinated with neighbouring Egypt, which has said it does not want an influx of displaced Palestinians crossing its border.

The US has frequently said that it will not support an Israeli invasion of Rafah without a clear plan to protect civilians there.

During its war on Gaza, Israel has frequently designated areas and corridors of movement for civilians as “safe zones” before bombing them, killing many

Dulra · 14/03/2024 14:27

Thanks @Efacsen call me a cynic but I am sure they will be anything but humanitarian, and I would be extremely worried that they are being moved out of Gaza. Pushing them further and further south and then into the sea! I hope this is not supported as a viable option

Efacsen · 14/03/2024 14:29

Accounts from more doctors, a nurse who was reportedly shot while on shift inside a building, a man trapped on the ground after having been shot in both legs who couldn't be rescued for an hour.

Cats and dogs eating the flesh of people killed because their bodies couldn't be retrieved. (I would hope people could understand how horrific this is, particularly when those people's loved ones may well have had to see this and know that they could not do anything or ever hope to be able to bury their loved one's body unmutilated - burial of the whole person is important).

A man sent in with orders from the IDF to evacuate, whose mother was in the complex, who was shot dead in front of people watching from the building.

People shot at as they tried to evacuate.

Horrific and absolutely no justification for it, it is just so unnecessary to treat people this way they are monsters

Because I'm interested in the Middle East and although many don't bother I still read some of the threads and comment sometimes. I realise some prefer echo chambers but what purpose does that serve apart from mutual back slapping. The UK is a democracy and this is a UK website. Its actually OK to have opinions.

The boring thing or tedious bit is when posters purposefully misunderstand, misquote and then whinge about what wasn't actually said. Perhaps it's a comprehension thing 🤔 I suspect it's done on purpose though. 🙄

Haven’t you thought that maybe you’re echo chamber as well? What difference is bwtweeen you and many of us and what makes you better in your opinion (and apologies if I misunderstood your sentence)

Is there any explanation about why they're doing it? Is it because they've no choice but to fight?

If on the reservists list I believe they’re forced to go , if they don’t go they can get into trouble (some people have refused to go)

Speechless

This is the reality of what Israel is doing (part 2)
