I cannot now at this stage re-find certain information I read a few months ago, but I know it was very grim for the female IDF ( those who warned something bad was afoot but were ignored) watching the border before Oct 7, then left in the lurch with no weapons when Hamas actually attacked. Then those who survived the massacre were actually sent back there. Some must have been suffering PTSD.

Speechless

FFS I'll wait for the usual suspects to explain why this isn't a deliberate attempt to inflame the situation in Jerusalem. During Ramadan too, god they are vile.

The safe islands proposal is a cluster fuck waiting to happen. It's hard enough moving a healthy, compliant population through a city with an intact infrastructure and police presence (I'm thinking of past protest marches in London). But in Gaza? With a wounded and traumatised populace and Hamas embedded amongst them? It's only a matter of time before something kicks off and the bullets fly.

That's before we think about setting up food, shelter and sanitation in these islands. How will Israel do that when all the aid trucks get mobbed?

I'm wondering afresh about the desert holding area built by Egypt. Was it as a backstop against this scenario?

Thank you. I thought I might be seeing a black wrapped body limply hanging over the metal fence to which it is chained, having been electrocuted by the reel of electric cable!

By comparison, I am glad your post is just about the fence. It is bad though. Why can’t they leave the Palistinians’ mosque alone, especially during Ramadan.

Israel again shoots aid seekers from a helicopter at Kuwait Roundabout, in Gaza City, killing 20 and injuring at least 100 - seems to happen most days tho' with smaller numbers

Another aid distribution warehouse was attacked yesterday in al Nuserati and US have demanded an investigation into the airstrike on the UNWRA warehouse in Rafah

Another day of the IDF doing it's best to address the humanitarian crisis

Satellite imagery shows pier construction on Gaza coast

Not clear if this is the start of the US temporary 'port' of the jetty for the Open Arms

That's not just an ordinary mosque, either, which would be bad enough. That's reported to be Al Aqsa Mosque.

Al Aqsa Mosque is one of the most important places in Islam, significant enough that it was the initial Qibla (direction of prayer) before the Qibla changed to the Kaaba in Mecca. It is said that The Prophet Muhammad himself (peace be upon him) visited it.

There are often restrictions on access to Al Aqsa, and regular threats to it from hardline elements in the Israeli government and unpleasant groups in the wider society.

Spanish aid vessel visible off Gaza coast - reports

The first aid vessel heading to the besieged Gaza Strip via a new maritime corridor was visible Friday off the coast of the war-ravaged territory, an AFP journalist said.

AFP video footage and photographs showed the Spanish aid vessel visible off Gaza coast towing a barge which the Spanish charity operating it says is carrying 200 tonnes of food for Palestinians threatened with famine after more than five months of war.

The specialist site Vessel Finder showed the Open Arms roughly five kilometres (three miles) off the coast of northern Gaza, said AFP.

A handful of civilians gathered on the rubble-strewn coast on Friday to watch the vessel, AFP footage showed, though it was unclear when it would actually reach shore.

From BICOM

Thousands of police officers will deploy to the Old City.
With Hamas looking to incite violence during the holy month, two soldiers were stabbed in an attack at a checkpoint south of Jerusalem yesterday morning. Israeli security forces shot the attacker and the two troops were moderately wounded.
Police Commissioner Yaakov Shabtai said, “The closer we get to the [first] Friday of Ramadan, everyone is trying to stir things up in this area; we are currently on our highest alert.”

From The Tines if Israel

Israel’s police force said it will deploy thousands of officers across Jerusalem’s Old City for Ramadan’s first Friday prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, with tensions high amid the Gaza war.
“We are prepared for Friday prayers with more police officers. Thousands of them will be in the area of Temple Mount,” police spokeswoman Mirit ben Mayor told reporters, referring to the holy site upon which the mosque sits
.

This is a classic plot children use. Go and goad the ‘other’ till they hit out, then scream, ‘look what they’ve done to me they need punishing’.

Why are they putting Israeli Jewish police officers outside a Muslim place of worship during a Muslim holy period?

Maybe if Israel left the Muslim worshippers alone at the mosque during the holy month of Ramadan they would not be seen as baiting Palestinians to excuse their own subsequent aggression.

Maybe if Hamas stopped stirring the effluent then they would need so much security.

Also it is about an Israeli Arab stabbing two people at the border.

I for my part have been referring to March 15, now, the start of Ramadan, and how the Israeli police presence is inflammatory near the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Someone else also mentioned Israeli Jewish Ben-Givr suddenly deciding he needed to be at the Western Wall bordering the Al Aqsa compound.

’Absolute right of all Muslims to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque’:

DirectorAl-Aqsa Mosque’s Director Omar Kiswani has told Al Jazeera that it is “the absolute right of all Muslims to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque”, whether they live in the occupied Palestinian territories or elsewhere.

“There shouldn’t be any permits required to enter the mosque and this is something the occupation needs to understand,” Kiswani said, referring to Israel.

“We see a significant number of soldiers, police, and other law enforcement personnel circulating Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, preventing our brothers from the West Bank from accessing these holy places,” he continued.
“Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship and peace, but it has become like a large prison due to the excessive restrictions and checkpoints being imposed. It even resembles a military camp.”

’80,000 pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque’: ReportDespite tight Israeli restrictions on access to Al-Aqsa Mosque,

80,000 worshippers made it to the holy site for the first Friday prayers of Ramadan, reports the Quds News Network, citing the Islamic Waqf that manages the mosque compound.
Thousands more Palestinians from the occupied West Bank were denied entry to Jerusalem, where a heavy Israeli security presence surrounds the mosque.
Only men over the age of 55 or women over the age of 50 are allowed to enter the mosque, and all must have a valid permit, making the site inaccessible to the vast majority of Palestinians.

Netanyahu accused of ‘deceiving the world’ over Al-Aqsa Mosque accessThe Palestinian Foreign Ministry has accused Netanyahu of “deceiving the world” when he said no additional measures would be imposed to limit access to Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramadan compared to previous years.
The ministry said in a statement posted on X that the Israel prime minister had given far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir the freedom to implement restrictions, including erecting barricades, to prevent the entry of Palestinian worshippers.
The ministry called on the international community and the United States to intervene to end these “racist” policies and ensure that the right to worship is upheld.

’Israel’s Ben-Gvir visits Western Wall

Israel’s far-right national security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, has shown up at the Western Wall, part of the border of Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, ahead of the first Friday prayers of Ramadan.

In a post on X, Ben-Gvir said he made the visit to show support for Israeli security forces based there and to encourage them to “deal strongly” with potential “terrorists” and “unrest”.

Ben-Gvir’s visit comes as Israeli checkpoints block thousands of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank from reaching the mosque, which is the third holiest site in Islam, inflaming tensions in the territory, reports the Wafa news agency.

Just saw who the company is that will cook and provide the food in the Spanish news. Let’s say he’s not a loved chef/ business person and in October he wasn’t really kind to Palestinians. But … if he helps them now then he’s doing quite a lot that many of us (myself included) aren’t doing so glad he’s doing it

From the tweet
The vessel carrying aid from Cyprus has docked at the new port in the Gaza Strip, located perilously close to the most dangerous security thoroughfare established by Israel, aimed at dividing the northern Gaza Strip from its southern region. Despite the presence of a much larger port along the shores of Gaza City, its location does not serve Israel's interests in besieging and starving Palestinian civilians.
