Love the idea that if the hostages were released, Israel would stop. It has actually said it won't. It has also refused three deals in which the hostages could be released. It knows where they are. It could have sent special ops in to get them out. Even some if them. It hasn't.

And if this is only about freeing the hostages, please, please explain why settlers in the West Bank have been armed, why houses in the West Bank have been bombed, why the military is going in and arresting thousands (yes, that's right) of mainly men in the West Bank. Oh and why there have been hundreds (at last check) of Palestinians in the West Bank expelled from their homes? What hostages is Israel trying to release in the West Bank?

And then Lebanon. Which hostages is it trying to release from there? And the bombing on Syria?

Israel is not trying to get the hostages back. That is not even remotely the goal. I can't imagine the betrayal that the families of those still held must be feeling. If your child was held hostage in Gaza, would you feel reassured that the area was being turned to rubble and people starving?

The hostages have been "written off".

People in Gaza are to afraid to speak out against Hamas.

A couple of ladies who had to evacuate their homes did speak out and that takes a lot of guts and both were saying the same thing. EG Hamas uses the money for their own goals and good life for them and their family, EG the Hamas top brass in Gaza family members had jobs and drove around in big cars.

As soon as all the hostages are released and the top people Hamas lot are handed over, this war will continue.

No one wants to answer this question I will try for the last time. Why is Egypt not opening its borders?

Where have the billions gone that are given to Gaza every year?

How would we in England feel if we were attacked in the October-style attacks and over government sat on its hands.

Last post on this thread and I reiterate, in all wars the innocents lose their homes, businesses, lives and family the top brass are often sat in bunkers or far away countries in 5 star hotels.

DontBeAPrickDarren · 11/02/2024 10:19

There is a whole ocean of activity between “sitting on their hands” and “deliberately penning half the population into Rafah and then launching an offensive that will kill thousands of people who are already starving and helpless.”

I do agree with you about Egypt and other Arab nations though, I’m not sure why there hasn’t been an opening of borders to refugees as we saw in the Ukraine war.

If the Hamas top brass are in a far away country how will killing thousands of Gazans solve the Hamas problem?

TinkerTiger · 11/02/2024 10:40

How would we in England feel if we were attacked in the October-style attacks and over government sat on its hands.

That would depend on England’s involvement in the country for the previous 70 years.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 11/02/2024 06:23

Honestly there's no point arguing with this lot. Bloodthirsty and self righteous, and looking for any excuse to repeat themselves.

I'm sorry you feel the need to insult others with nasty posts, just because they don't agree with you.

Where does 70 years come into it ???🤔

starfleet · 11/02/2024 12:29

I'm unsure why people don't seem to grasp that this did not start on October 7th. The persecution of Palestinian people is way older than this. The thousands that were ousted from their homes and lands during the Nakba is evidence of this.

Israel will not stop now until the ethnic cleansing of Palestine is complete.

This is their aim. Hamas is a terrorist organisation and their attack in Oct was heinous and nobody can say otherwise, however, not every Palestinian man, woman or child is Hamas.

Nearly 100,000 people are injured or dead. What is it going to be enough for israel? When every single one of those remaining is dead?

The genocide apologists on these threads keep using the same phrases 'if hamas hadn't started it/all Palestinians are complicit/it was never their land/calling out other posters who make any comment that criticises israel as antisemitic or labelling them as holocaust deniers - these seem to be the go to, oven ready comments that are used constantly.

It has always been Palestinian land, I'm not disputing that Jewish people shared that land, but to now declare it as only theirs is insane. The fact that BN wants to obliterate Palestinians is insane. That the world is watching whilst a genocide is carried out before our eyes and does nothing is insane.

Unfortunately, Hamas many never be destroyed. Those kids who have witnessed the persecution of their people will grow up and become Hamas. Does no-one think why they have become stronger over the years with their numbers increasing?

In an ideal naive world a 2 state solution would be the end game. This isn't going to happen. There are no winners in this hideously brutal conflict.

@starfleet I take issue with your second to last paragraph. What does it mean? That we should never challenge terrorism in case it increases numbers? That actually with a different government in Gaza this does not have to Continue.

@DontBeAPrickDarren they don't want Hamas in their countries. So there must be a concern it's a fairly widespread problem.

I dont really think the people in Gaza have literally anything to lose if they speak out against Hamas? Whats the difference if they are killed by Hamas or Israel?

You do realise that it's 30,000 dead in 5 months whereas the example you gave was 300,000 in 5 years. Not very proportionate is it. So yes it is a Genocide

DistinguishedSocialCommenator · 10/02/2024 22:32

Don't forget what started it. It would end m right now if Hamms released the hostages.

Israel left Gaza to their own devices and look what Hamas did

Hamas lied to their people in the elections about a peaceful solution

Why is Hamas not releasing the hostages?

Why is next door, Egypt not letting people into Egypt?

What is going on is wrong, but we must never forget what started it and Isareli hostages till held

What started it was the Legue of Nations Mandates, or possibly the Balfour Declaration, perhaps the creation of the State of Israel?

The massacre by paramilitary wings of Hamas was abhorrent but whichever way you want to spin it this conflict did not start on October 7.

Newbutoldfather · 11/02/2024 12:55

The October Hamas attack should never be downplayed or justified. Anyone doing this is, in my opinion, antisemitic.

However, it does not give Israel the excuse to make Gaza uninhabitable or to displace the civilian population, No more than 9/11 gave the U.S the excuse for Abu Ghraib and the torture they carried out in their ‘dark sites’.

Israel can no longer be seen as the plucky little Jewish state, surrounded on all sides by enemies. It is a nuclear armed regional superpower, backed by the might of the U.S. As such, it can prosecute its wars far more effectively and clinically.

Losing the moral high ground is, ultimately, not good for Israel.

PutMyFootIn · 11/02/2024 13:01

no you started it

no it was definately you that started it

Very well said. It seems that not many people can actually grasp the reality of it all

stomachameleon · 11/02/2024 13:04

@dinomirror that's clearly not an opinion everyone shares.

incognitothismorning · 11/02/2024 13:08

I have spoken to someone who was a witness to the Hamas terrorist attack on Oct 7. This person described in detail the slow, deliberate, planned torture and murder of a baby. I will never get the images of what was described to me out of my head. That person who saw it is never going to calm down ever again - they did not know the child but every child is everyone's child.

This poor girl in Gaza breaks my heart- what Hamas did to that baby breaks my heart.

I wish this wasn't happening. But lets be clear about who started it. if a terrorist group entered a British home and did that to a baby, along with the other deaths and hostage taking, I would expect a similar response from the UK, tbh

Oh my goodness... Israel has been occupying Palestine and committing horrrors upon horrors for countless years.

But that fact seems to be getting conveniently ignored.

Each and every life is equal. That seems to be getting forgotten

It's not being ignored @BackandForthRoundandRound it's just that it's history and nobody really cares what happened 70 years ago. Many of those people aren't even alive today.
