She’s right.
Something very wrong when this can’t be stated more clearly by everyone.

Instead we have politicians and media people tying themselves in knots so as not to say it.

Heartbreaking to say the least 💔

"This speech by @Tarbush_Nada at a @UN conference yesterday will go down in history.

In front of a room filled with states from around the world, she exposes the racist ideology that underpins Western support for Israel.

What is the purpose of continuing to send arms to Israel, she asks?

"Is it apathy, indifference, a head in the sand, continuation of business as usual?

Is it profits? The desire to make more profits no matter the cost, legal, moral or reputational?

Or is it ideology, emanating from a racist logic whereby different values are placed on different lives? People of the Global South, or of a certain skin colour or nationality are seen as more disposable, less deserving of life, empathy, outrage or respect for the law?

There is no diplomatic way of calling out racism. It is time to call a spade a spade."

"...If you choose to continue sending weapons to Israel as it annihilates the Palestinian of Gaza, then you do not get to ever pretend again that you support international law, care about human life, or have moral convictions that apply universally"."

"This young woman’s last speech went viral with more than a million views. Her speech in #Bath today is even more incredible:

“Shame on everyone who stole their childhood. The weapons manufacturers, right here in the UK, who profit off their pain. The media who cloak each killing in the passive tense denying them respect even in death. The politicians who drop their kids at school then go to Parliament and debate whether 13,000 Palestinian children’s lives really warrant a ceasefire. Is really a genocide. Just this week the UK abstained from the UN ceasefire vote while my home of the United States single-handedly vetoed it. The selfishness, the cowardice, the racism, make us all furious at our representatives.”

Everyone should hear her powerful words. I hope @STWuk and @PSCupdates will invite her to speak at one of their London rallies soon!"

EasterIssland · 26/02/2024 07:05

Ireland’s senate has just unanimously voted to:

• impose sanctions against Israel;

• actively prevent the passage of US weapons through Irish airspace to Israel;

• and advocate for an international arms embargo on Israel.

While on fire, he repeatedly yelled “Free Palestine.”"

Horrifying.

He didn't make it :(

BelleHathor · 26/02/2024 09:17

His name was Aaron Bushnell, he was a 25 year old Air Force soldier (active duty).

Be careful the full video is on Social media and some of the replies are disgusting/inhumane.

inkworks273 · 26/02/2024 10:14

I saw on twitter that a woman did the same thing in December but it didn't get much media attention.

Scirocco · 26/02/2024 10:31

That poor man, to feel so desperate and voiceless that he felt that was his only option.

This is very sad, he must have felt incredibly desperate and in pain to do that.

The security guard was probably petrified.

HeidiInTheBigCity · 26/02/2024 12:21

Not sure "sad" is the right word! At least not for me. "Utterly horrifying" comes closer!

Having seen actual children shot to death IRL, having spent the last few months essentially being inundated with pictures of maimed dead bodies and horryfying injuries ... there is still something chilling about that video. The way he keeps on yelling "free palestine" until the yelling turns into screams of agony. I could not help but wonder "what were you thinking at that moment? were you still as full of conviction as mere seconds earlier?"

Burning alive is a horrible, horrible way to die! Even the Spanish Inquisition would show "mercy" to heretics who converted after their conviction by strangling them instead of or before burning them!

And, yes, I am perfectly aware of self-immolation having a long tradition as an extreme form of protest - still, it is bone chilling!

inkworks273 · 26/02/2024 12:42

@HeidiInTheBigCity I can't bring myself to watch it but the way you describe it does sound bone chilling.

@HeidiInTheBigCity I can't bring myself to watch it but the way you describe it does sound bone chilling.

Honestly, don't!

It easily ranks among the most horrific things I have ever seen - and, again, I have seen people killed IRL.

It's scarring!

PeasfullPerson · 26/02/2024 12:55

I have to admit I didn’t watch the whole thing and I had the sound off!

Scenes of Aid landing operations from Jordanian planes.

Civilians were also shot at for trying to get to the aid.

“More VETERANS in the US are raising their voices against the Israeli genocide and the brutal massacre of children

Alan Shebaro, a US veteran with a powerful message:

"My name is Alan Shebaro. I was with the 3rd Special Forces Group. I was with the Commanders in Extremis Force in the B23. I was a sniper, an assaulter, and a breacher. I did three rotations: 2008, 2009, and 2007.

I know war.

What is going on in Palestine right now is NOT A WAR.

It is the dehumanization. It's the GENOCIDE. It's the ethnic cleansing. Of a specific people to take their land. This is WRONG. And there's nothing more American than speaking out against what's wrong.

The US taxpayer is paying for this, which makes it even more frustrating. This needs to STOP.

Whatever you can do, anything, this needs to stop."

@inkworks273 I just watched the speech you posted from Bath. Thanks you for sharing it. So moving.

How is this still being allowed to happen? I have never in my life been so ashamed to be British.

In situations like that, there are frequently policies requiring that somebody does that, so while the optics are pretty bad, that guard is probably doing exactly what he's trained to do in that role in the situation.

The people I really struggle to maintain any respect for are the people walking... walking!... with fire extinguishers.

It's an emergency. You run in an emergency. And yes, that includes running towards potentially scary things. It's what you do in that job.

Yes, he represents a growing sentiment coming from former and active duty soldiers.

Some of the loudest anti war sentiment is coming from people who fought these Wars in the Middle East. They know the destruction caused, civilians injured/killed, colleagues injured/killed (then given substandard care when they return home).

They know that if this escalates it's will be their "boots" on the ground, whilst politicians cash in their donations from Lobbyists.
