To find the silence about UNRWA being Hamas hypocritical

I entirely understand the discomfort seeing images coming out of Gaza; but what I don’t get is those who choose to post about it on social media or campaign expressing their horror but being totally SILENT after October 7th (before Israeli had even responded), after evidence of the sexual violence suffered by those murdered in Israel and now, after finding out that UNWRA who they have all been sending donations to, are actually Hamas who perpetrated the atrocities.

Where is the outrage from these people at UNRWA?

Why are none of these vocal people not screaming from the roof tops at how horrendous this is !?! If it was true you care about humanity, why aren’t you horrified to learn you’ve all been donating to an organisation so closely linked to the rape and murder of innocent civilians ? (And this isn’t the first time unrwa has been linked to Hamas; their HQ is a Hamas building and they’ve famously been linked to training terrorists in their schools / got into hot water for removing the hollocaust from their curriculum)

if you are one of those white privileged women who posts on social media about a cease fire (I’m talking to those of you who have never been to the ME, or studied ME history and never taken up the cause of any of the other global conflicts); why is your outrage so one sided and blinkered ? Why don’t you acknowledge the horrors of the Israeli/ Jewish people too ? If you’re really the virtuous person you purport to be by taking up this cause, why don’t you care ? Or do you believe what Hamas did and are doing and promising to keep doing (murder all Jews) is justified ?

Genuinely find it bewildering.

Channel 4 news reporting on UNWRA at the moment. Apparently Israel get a list of UNWRA employees every year and vet them themselves. UNWRA said it is likely the employees that are accused of being part of Hamas would have been on that list and vetted by Israel. They've confirmed that it is all being investigated now by a top investigation team within the UN not by UNWRA. Hopefully we will get clarity on all this soon and the nation's that have suspended aid will reinstate it because time is running out for the starving civilians. It has also been announced that there is now 17,000 orphaned children in Gaza. What chance have they got.

Thanks @Dulra for the info (and for sticking to the topic after, much appreciated)

That's interesting and it will be interesting to find out the findings of the investigation. I linked an article about it not too long ago.

So you don't know who the person is (a cursory glance at their twitter feed told me what I needed to know) or what it is really about

But post it anyway?

@Februaryfeels I think for some it's their raison d'etre.

Leumi Bank has now suspended the UNRWA bank account stating that they are not satisfied with the explanations given for unusual activity on the account.

I hope those who defunded are now going to reinstate things.

The picture posted just before of the UNRWA captive, why do Israel take these pictures, are they baiting the ICJ deliberately?

I would be curious to know what would happen if Israel said give up Hamas, release the hostages and we will leave you alone. Not just stop killing you right now but that's it now, forever we are done. No more blockade, we will pay to rebuild all that we have destroyed, we will get rid of the settlers on the West Bank and you can move freely between both, you can do what you like we will keep out of your business. Right now there is this huge uncertainty and fear. Even when this conflict ends what then? Is it back to life under Israels blockade? Is it back to settlements? What comes next? Where is the incentive to give up Hamas when they will more than likely be just swapping this hell for another one. I'm willing to bet that if Palestinians were told you can be free, we will end this blockade, end this occupation that poll results would read very differently.

This is what the Palestinians want, to live a free life, the ability to travel, to man their own borders, to live with self determination, an airport, a seaport. To not be caged in, to be able to move freely between the West Bank and Gaza. If Israeli get the illegal settlers out and they all left each other alone to live peacefully, it could work. No guns pointed as they walked down the street, no turnstile gates to get in and out. The reason they hate the Israelis is because they control every aspect of their lives, that’s why they fight back, that’s why the tinderbox explodes on a regular basis. Just leave them alone and they will do the same. Give them their land back to 1967 borders.is this too difficult to understand. Hamas are relatively new in the long history of Gaza, they’ve risen up because of the conditions and the blockade.

If only it were a simple as that, and that dream you describe was possible...
Do you know that before israel gave gaza to the Palestinians that's exactly how they lived! No borders in Israel (there was to egypt), freedom of movement for all. Businesses flourished, Jews and Muslims lived (mostly) together well.

HeyLovee · 06/02/2024 08:42

You do know that Israel haven’t ‘occupied’ Gaza since 2005 right?
Up until 7th Oct Gazans moved between the border every day for work. If a similar thing happened here and a bunch of people from Wales murdered and took hostages from England I‘ m pretty sure people would be expecting pretty strict border control here too.

I guess it depends when you want to decide history starts. There is a synagogue in Gaza dating back to the 6th century, so to try to imply that Jews have no links to that particular parcel of land is wholly inaccurate.

I personally want a two state solution, illegal settlers out of the West Bank etc but let's not pretend it's a straightforward issue. There are legitimate links to the land from more than just one people.

They’ve not occupied but they’ve controlled

So apparently the 'palestinians' went to Jordan and tried to assassinate & overthrow the king and he asked the Israelis to help him get rid of them (because the Russians had sent the Syrians to fight with the plo and the 50 odd other guerilla groups who had turned up in Jordan just because they enjoyed a fight.)
Then the plo went to Lebanon and started a civil war there so the Israelis helped the Lebanese get rid of the plo again but the Sudanese smuggled Yasser to Egypt.
On and on and round and round, murder and mayhem wherever they go.
Hamas and their ilk are not peaceful people, chances are that even if they got what they say they want they'd find something else to fight about.

A very simplistic take 'leave them alone and they will do the same'. They are resisting, the fluffy terrorists, misunderstood individuals that they are, they just want to live in peace (and knit).

Umm, since when has rape been resisting. Resist by attacking the IDF but people at a peace and music festival? Excusing terrorists murdering, raping and torture, not forgetting kidnapping families from their homes.

So many apologists for terrorists.

Not at all an apologist for terrorists. Bringing up 07 Oct in a vacuum is simplistic. Why do you think they felt the need to do this ? Let me be clear here, I’m not supporting it in anyway, but the tinder box that was created by living in blockade conditions (for their entire life in most cases) was a massive factor.

@HeyLovee So you think it’s fine to live like that ? Sure, some went to work over the border, but do you simply think they went back and forth to suit themselves ? Do you think they popped over to West Bank to visit their friends and relatives as well, hooped on a plane to take a holiday ? They were controlled in every aspect of their lives by Israel, why should they live like that ? Do you have a good answer ? The acceptance of how they had to live is appalling. They rose up in desperation, and the world as usual, did nothing.
