Conflict in the Middle East

To find the silence about UNRWA being Hamas hypocritical

1000 replies

Muthaofcats · 28/01/2024 07:35

I entirely understand the discomfort seeing images coming out of Gaza; but what I don’t get is those who choose to post about it on social media or campaign expressing their horror but being totally SILENT after October 7th (before Israeli had even responded), after evidence of the sexual violence suffered by those murdered in Israel and now, after finding out that UNWRA who they have all been sending donations to, are actually Hamas who perpetrated the atrocities.

Where is the outrage from these people at UNRWA?

Why are none of these vocal people not screaming from the roof tops at how horrendous this is !?! If it was true you care about humanity, why aren’t you horrified to learn you’ve all been donating to an organisation so closely linked to the rape and murder of innocent civilians ? (And this isn’t the first time unrwa has been linked to Hamas; their HQ is a Hamas building and they’ve famously been linked to training terrorists in their schools / got into hot water for removing the hollocaust from their curriculum)

if you are one of those white privileged women who posts on social media about a cease fire (I’m talking to those of you who have never been to the ME, or studied ME history and never taken up the cause of any of the other global conflicts); why is your outrage so one sided and blinkered ? Why don’t you acknowledge the horrors of the Israeli/ Jewish people too ? If you’re really the virtuous person you purport to be by taking up this cause, why don’t you care ? Or do you believe what Hamas did and are doing and promising to keep doing (murder all Jews) is justified ?

Genuinely find it bewildering.

A country that is being bombed (by the same country) will never be able to be a thriving country that their neighbours Israel are. They will be rebuilding and surviving after each war. Do you expect them to be like Israel in 10 years ?

btw why is that thriving country still receive money from USA ? If it’s so successful it should be donating to other countries and supporting them rather than taking billions every year.

@ProfessorPipsqueak So it's Israel's fault Hamas spent money and resources on tunnels instead of air defence

Got it

I mean I'm just talking about the facts here. Israel regularly bomb Gazas infrastructure. It just isn't realistic to suggest that Hamas start building overground defences and Israel would say grand so, you work away. It would be an absolute waste of money.

Gazans building air defence systems?

Do you understand the level of blockade Gaza has been under?

I don't think you know what you are talking about even though you have had since the 7th October to inform yourself.

Februaryfeels · 03/02/2024 15:42

Thanks @FOJN but I am aware of Hamas and where their funding comes from and goes to

Such a blockade that they have all they need to massacre innocent Israelis

stomachameleon · 03/02/2024 17:05

And the reason they allow no civilians in these tunnels? Under any circumstance?

Because that would be using civilians as human shields, obviously.🙄

I am a bit surprised this thread has been allowed as the OP is spreading inflammatory misinformation.

UNRWA is not Hamas. It is not an arm of Hamas. Do not fund Hamas.

What has happened is right after the ICJ ruling telling Israel to do better with humanitarian aid, Israel COGAT alleged that 12 members of staff might be linked to HAMAS. In response, UNRWA terminated all of them pending a full investigation, and is awaiting evidence from Israel COGAT. In an over-reaction, several countries paused their humanitarian funding, but most have since restarted it as the allegations against 12 staff don’t mean that “UNRWA is Hamas” ffs.

There are over 13,000 staff in UNRWA. They are all fully investigated by the UN prior to employment and every six months per new procedures put into place over a decade ago. The staff names and backgrounds are shared with Israel’s COGAT at these times as well.

How lucky we're rational and thoughtful people with an ability to sift through whatever sources we're privy to.
Perhaps unwra will be back at work as soon as people with better sources than us have had a good look, like the mumsnet mods but slightly less powerful.

UNWRA didn’t stop working. They are still working in Gaza.
Other than the 12 terminated while being investigated and the 153 killed inIsraeli attacks.
If the 12 are still alive by the end of the investigation, they will be rehired back into their jobs. That was announced & accepted by the UN Secretary General.

quantumbutterfly · 03/02/2024 18:18

They're still working, marvellous. Then I'm sure they'll get their funding back when they're all proven to be good, upstanding, non-hamas supporting aid workers.

5 of the 9 countries that suspended funding have restarted it. I haven’t seen a full list only that Canada, Germany and Brussels were three.

stomachameleon · 03/02/2024 18:50

@MercanDede obviously Hmm

Not hurting those in those tunnels is it? I know where I would rather take my chances. Be nice to have the option though?

Would you be desperate enough to join Hamas to get a safe-ish spot in a tunnel?

Parkingt111 · 03/02/2024 19:18

Tunnels are a clear target for the IDF and they have made that known. Why would it be safer for civilians in a tunnel?
It's not like the IDF would decide not to bomb or flood the tunnel if civilians were seeking refuge there alongside Hamas.
They would say that the civilians are either Hamas members or then human shields which they had no choice but to kill.
Civilians are not even safe in schools, hospitals and refugee camps
It's ridiculous to suggest that they should try and hide with Hamas members in tunnels that are clearly a target.

AliceA2021 · 03/02/2024 19:34

3000 Unwra staff cheering on Hamas terrorist attack in a Terrorgram chat ☹️🥲

quantumbutterfly · 03/02/2024 19:43

tbf 30 teachers in the chat were identified as supporting hamas, (in the UK we have racist teachers who hold placards depicting braverman and sunak as coconuts), in addition to 150 educators and workers previously identified as promoting hate and violence.

The question is what are they teaching in unwra funded schools?

cindyhove · 03/02/2024 19:51

Out of curiosity - and off the point of the OP's post, how many of the respondants here have lived through bombings, sirens, exploding buildings next door?

No point. Just curiosity

quantumbutterfly · 03/02/2024 20:05

Fortunately not, my parents and parents-in-law did, the sound of air raid sirens chilled them to the bone even 50 years later.

I would not wish that fear on anyone.
