According to the Israeli PM. Do you believe this? And if you do, what's your background in geopolitics, level of education and religious belief. Does Hamas = Isis? Or are Hamas the equivalent of the mafia?

As much as I abhor the bombing in Gaza, is this realistic, that we protest and hope that we are not next?

And is the deterioration of western, Christian values a result of our vulnerabilities? Israel attacked, and Russia and China muscling us up on that and have taken their chances because we, the west, ARE weak. ??

So you absolve Russia of blame for starting the war?

headstone · 18/11/2023 20:47

Of course not, both Russia and Israel are wrong.

I don't agre that you can only support Israel by being anti muslim. My first and main reason to say Israel is justified has been in my posts since day 1 - that look at what we think is right in war - WWII dropipng the H bomb, carpet bombing Dresden - this is what war is, this is how democracies react if attacked. It is not nice or pretty.

It is true that I have said democracy is better than dictatorship or theocracy. I have also mentioned countries with 98% FMG rate. I don't think stating facts is wrong. I was very surprised someone said something along the lines of what is wrong with Saudi however! Is that a general view in the UK that we think that regime is a good one? Most women think it is a terrible regime. I am just interest to see support here.

I agree that I would give Saudi a small tick if it recognised the state of Israel. that does not mean it goes on a best friends list given the other terrible ways it rules, the treatment of women and much else. I don't think being anti Saudi is a UK hate crime. it is a basic wonderful moral response to a dreadful regime.

I don't agree either. It's perfectly possible to support Israel without being anti Muslim. But that's not what is happening on here. Nearly every single pro Israel post now is making some sort of bash at Muslims.

What an ignorant and offensive post.

FMG? What's that?
If you mean FGM, it's a practice that has started way before Islam by the Pharaohs and it is practised only in African countries, most of whom are Christian.

Yes Israel goes into your best friend list, it has only committed a genocide.

I suggest you started reading real books about the region to straighten your facts. I can recommend some if you wish.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/11/2023 22:10

Speaking of ignorance I'm not sure how long Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman,, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, India and Pakistan have been in Africa Ohlalalalala?

And while it's true that a great deal of FGM takes place in Africa, according to the National Library of Medicine the top 10 countries where it's most prevalent aren't christian at all except for Eritrea: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9436112/

What classes as Islamophobia @feralunderclass ?

is it Islamophobia to say that Islam has some quite murderous doctrines?

apparently the bible has more violence . Your post reminded me of a study I read about years ago
https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/pittsburgh/news/study-finds-bible-more-angry-violent-than-the-quran/

It’s fine to criticise elements of islam and elements of any religion. I’m not religious myself , I have lots to say about various religions. But suggesting that Muslims are inherently violent would be most definitely Islamophobia. And there are definitely posts that suggest this.

Study Finds Bible More Angry, Violent Than The Quran

A new study of Christian and Islamic texts asserts that there is more violence and anger in the Bible than the Quran.

Interesting article hear and very sad to see the UK left go in this direction and yet another reason to vote Conservative at the next election. The left is a lost cause.
Luckily we are still allowed to say in the Uk we have a very good democratic system which is massively better than regimes like Iran, Saudi, Yemen, Afghanistan etc. People do not have to agree with me but it is so. I am equally happy to say our regime is much better than that of Russia, China and North Korea. I am an equal opportunities democracy advocate....

Corrupted by extremist Islamists, the Left is now openly anti-British

We will lose the battle for hearts and minds if we allow ourselves to become radicalised by this hateful ideology

An opinion piece in a paper that is well known as a Tory mouthpiece, written by a "Conservative journalist".
I'm not that desperate for another term of the far right, I don't think the majority are either. Their reluctance to condemn what is happening in Gaza is the nail in the coffin for the Tories after a long, increasingly worse 💩show.

ChickHenLittle · 18/11/2023 23:00

There are young British women, raised in a society where they are accustomed to saying whatever they like, expressing vehement support for a movement whose “morality police” would beat them to death for appearing in the street without covering their hair.

She has clearly never been to Palestine or done proper research then. Although she's conflating support for Palestine with supporting terrorists, so I didn't read much further. Feels like a waste of time when the froth isn't remotely accurate or well-researched.

Regarding the link: it's part of the article, I copied and pasted, I didn'tadd it myself. It is about a horrifying incident in Iran, not any Palestinian territories.

I think she is calling Islam a movement there. Or maybe Islamic fundamentalists not sure. It is not a good article- she’s definitely conflating support for Palestinian citizens with support for Hamas. It’s misinformation and twisting and the whole thing fills me with dread and fear about the state of the world.

I’m so confused by this argument as well. Is she saying it’s ok to kill Palestinian citizens because they live in a country that has no support for Gay rights??? Like honestly - will we just start bombing every country with a poor record of human rights. There is no sense in that argument at all.

HRTQueen · 18/11/2023 23:11

OuiOuiKitty · 14/11/2023 21:43

No. My background is common sense. It's something Israel are spewing to try and get the West to back their attempted genocide. This is about land, not religion, nor is it attempt to take over the world.

I absolutely agree

thankfully many have moved on from thinking we have to fear radicals from the ME this may have been in the case 20 years ago but we know what countries have suffered the most since and it’s not the US or Europe

Xenia · 19/11/2023 10:52

Anyway thanks for people reading the article. Seeing the views of all sides is important. If 60% of Britons are not interested in Iraeli / Palestinian issues that is a pity as knowing about the rest of the world is useful. If we can get people tihnking about the issue in all contexts that is a good thing (and realising others have different views and yes I am very aware that the Tory party is not likely to win at the next election. Labour has not won power since 2005 but they are certainly in with a good chance if the Palestinian issue does not implode the party, next time).

Sparklytops · 19/11/2023 12:25

The Son of Hamas leader actually said the terrorists won't stop at the ME. Never mind, let's not believe an authority on the subject.

Louloulouenna · 19/11/2023 12:59

In the interview given on television in Lebanon by a Hamas leader post October 7th he vowed that Hamas would repeat those atrocities against Jews again and again and again and again.

These people are telling us exactly what they are.

As with Hamas bodycam footage, some still refuse to believe what they don't want to see.

Hippyhippybake · 19/11/2023 13:17

And Hamas have explicitly said Christians are next. This is a religious war.

You don’t think it’s got anything to do with being forced off land where they’ve lived for generations? Being forced into an ever-shrinking space where their airport has been bombed and their port is controlled by Israel so that they are functionally imprisoned? Having to live next to occupiers whose government ministers have explicitly stated that they want the land cleared of these inferior people so that Israel can take it? (along with the natural gas that’s about to be extracted).
