Hamas just said they don't want a ceasefire. They want to repeat October 7 and kill and rape and behead every Israeli. I was supportive of a humanitarian pause but I don't really think that is viable now.

If someone said they wanted to rape, kill, behead every Briton, I would be very angry at our government if they decided to stop attacking those nutters.

And this is the kind of bullshit that I mentioned no one believes anymore. People can say this over and over again, no one believe it anymore. As there is simply no evidence. The only evidence out there is that Israeli army are killing children in the thousands and each time they use the excuse: Hamas was hiding there. Hamas this, Hamas that. All bullshit. They have special forces, they can at least attempt to go in and take out the Hamas members without killing innocent civilians.
you said in your post that if a group of people did that here, you would be angry at government if they didn’t stop going after them. Would you be willing to have your family and friends and homes destroyed in the process? Our government wouldn’t even think about bombing a whole civilian area, hospitals, shelters, schools because that’s genocide.

@2boys1princess Thank you so much for seeing and caring for the people of Gaza. I would say that, though there is no official army, there are Hamas and that there have been 13 Israeli soldiers killed now. The loss of those young lives grieves me as much as the loss of young Gazans. It's all rich, older men and women, well fed, in expensive suits sending the young to their deaths.

SinnerBoy · 01/11/2023 12:25

Memri is a fanatical anti-Palestinian and ant-Muslim site, dedicated to "correcting" reports about Israel. Their raison detre is propaganda, lies and forged reports.

2boys1princess · 01/11/2023 12:28

Many terrorist attacks have happened here in the U.K. from the gunpowder plot to the attacks in London and the Manchester arena. Did the government go and bomb all of us in the hope of finding the perpetrators? Did it kill your children and elderly family members? Cut off your food, electricity, water and destroy your local hospitals.
the attacks on the Palestinian people are nothing but a mass genocide. They aren’t the ones committing terrorist attacked on the innocent Israeli civilians.
Just like you and I and our families have human rights, the Palestinian people should also have human rights. Is it that hard to understand

SinnerBoy · 01/11/2023 12:28

They just hide behind “Hamas were hiding there and not our fault they used the innocent Palestinian civilians as human shields” narrative.

They told the world what they were going to do, before they'd fired the first artillery shell. They said that they would bomb hospitals and shelters and justified it in advance.

In all the pictures and footage of dead and injured, none of those helping are Hamas fighters, are they?

Viviennemary · 01/11/2023 12:31

Because there are terrorists hiding there. Let's not forget what started all this.

SinnerBoy · 01/11/2023 12:31

Cue: But the BBC's run by Nazis! rubbish.

Someone had better tell Laura Keunssberg, cos she hasn't noticed.

eardefender · 01/11/2023 12:35

Growlybear83 · 31/10/2023 20:50

I think israel should be told to stop their genocide, withdraw from Gaza immediately, and abide by the many UN resolutions that they have ignored for years.

What, out of interest, do you think Hamas should do?

2boys1princess · 01/11/2023 12:37

I wouldn’t know what Hamas look like.
All i know is that just by announcing in advance that you’re going to bomb crucial areas (that are much needed at this time like hospitals and shelters), doesn’t make it alright. The children and injured in hospitals as well as the medical staff can’t just up and leave can they. It’s actually worse telling them in advance knowing very well that bombs and rockets are coming, but they have no where to go. The only reason they announced it was to try to justify mass murder as usual. It definitely wasn’t in the best interest for the Palestinian civilians with no where to escape to.

Hamas keep talking but no one believes them or listens to them. Its like they are dancing around going 'hey guys over here we are totally evil please notice us'. Meanwhile the world just attends to Israel. It baffling.

Seriously Is it racism from the west, that we expect higher standards from jews/Israelis and we simply and at the heart of it view the Palestinian/Arabs as less capable of reason, intellect and just inherently more violent.

I find it very telling that there is barely a mention of Hamas being part of the decision making process in any way.

It's a bit misleading to call it a refugee camp. It's a town people have lived in for decades and they were told to evacuate three weeks ago, in the vague hopes anyone is interested in facts.

I'm Interested in facts. How we're they told? Were they given anywhere to go or the means to get there? A way to earn a living or feed their families when they got there?

No answers from any of the many who feel the attacks are justified because people were told to move?

The rules don't apply to Hamas, They can do what they like. Only one side needs to abide by the 'rules'.

If the side wants to continue being seen as a 'democracy' as opposed to a terrorist organisation then yes it does

Yes, that is generally the case when a terrorist group attacks a democracy which claims to follow international law. The democracy does not get to impose savage collective punishment on children. Otherwise, just call yourself a terrorist organisation.

SinnerBoy · 01/11/2023 13:07

What, out of interest, do you think Hamas should do?

Personally, I'd like them to seal the tunnel doors, turn the ventilators off and in a few days, when they've breathed their last, everyone else could breathe a sigh of relief.

Sadly, I think that my option is unlikely.

Hamas keep talking but no one believes them or listens to them. Its like they are dancing around going 'hey guys over here we are totally evil please notice us'. Meanwhile the world just attends to Israel. It baffling.

Ah. Now. You appear to have forgotten / missed the widespread revulsion, sympathy for the Israeli victims and general harsh criticism of Hamas.

Three weeks down the line, things have moved on and Israel is busy dropping one ton bunker busters on residential areas, uncaring of the mass civilian casualties they know that they will inflict.

IstandWithIsrael · 01/11/2023 13:11

Attention, please!!
This is a long post!

This is for all the progressives who don't have a clue about the Israel-Palestine conflict at all!

In 2005, Israel left Gaza. We forced our own people to leave their homes. The army grabbed them and kicked them out. For peace! We left them homes, villas, we gave them everything that they needed - for free. They could have made anything with that. They could have made a country.

Instead of that,

In 2006, Hamas took over Gaza. And they want it all - they started to shout "from the river to the sea". Do you know what that means, guys?

It means to kill all the Jews from Gaza to Jordan!

Long story short,

On October 7, Gaza's army broke the border.

They killed, burned, kidnapped, murdered and raped everyone who was on their way!

Kids, women and elderly.

They killed more than 1400 people from all over the world and kidnapped more than 240!

They declared a war! Not us.

Now I'm asking you - what would you do?

What do you think, guys, Israel needs to do

To guarantee our life here?

OK, so you guys take a side, but you don't really take a moment to dive into the details, to the history.

I know, it's very easy to look at the pictures in Gaza and take the underdog's side.

You want to free Palestine?

Free them from Hamas.

This is not Israel against Hamas = ISIS.

This is the light against the dark.

You don't really have to love us to be on our side.

You just have to be h u m a n.

@gratedbluecheese
Do you condemn war crimes?

Yes. Everyone does, apart from Hamas, Russia, Iran and sadly a long list of others.

I know people feel very emotional about this (although it would seem less so for the hostages and 5,000 victims on the Israeli side from 7th October)

However, I think there is a question mark over whether Israel has broken any laws. Which ever side you are on, these are as far as i know, the facts.

Israel has no obligation to supply water and electricity to Gaza.
Israel has no obligation to open any part of their border to Gaza.
Israel has no obligation to send any aid to Garzan civilians.
Israel warned civilians of where air strikes/ground invasion would be and left time to evacuate.
Israel is hitting military targets and is not breaking the law if they hit civilians if they have told Civilians to get out and if the civilians are being used as a human shield by the opposing army.

The question of whether or not Israel has broken the law is, i think, no they haven't.

The other question of whether or not Israel is acting in a moral way is another entirely and one i am not qualified to answer. Israel have to put their civilians and hostages first and to do that they have to destroy as much of Hamas as possible.

@eardefender

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/oct/31/have-war-crimes-been-committed-in-israel-and-gaza-and-what-international-laws-apply

The UN also said that Israel may be committing the war crime of collective punishment through its siege of the Gaza territory. The International Committee of the Red Cross agreed.

“The instructions issued by the Israeli authorities for the population of Gaza City to immediately leave their homes, coupled with the complete siege, explicitly denying them food, water and electricity are not compatible with international humanitarian law,” it said.

Amnesty International said it has “documented unlawful Israeli attacks, including indiscriminate attacks, which caused mass civilian casualties and must be investigated as war crimes”.

Human Rights Watch said that “multiple war crimes have been and continue to be committed in Israel and Palestine, with grave concerns that Israeli forces and Palestinian armed groups are carrying out unlawful indiscriminate attacks harming civilians”.

The Palestinian health ministry in Gaza, which is run by Hamas, said more than 8,000 people have been killed in the Israeli assault, including more than 3,000 children.

Some groups have gone further and accused Israel of genocide, although lawyers said that is a harder crime to prove under international law.

LOL at your gaslighting and propaganda @eardefender

Have war crimes been committed in Israel and Gaza and what international laws apply?

The UN has said there is evidence that international humanitarian law may have been breached by both sides in the conflict
