"But Israel gave them prime waterfront land, and they still wouldn't accept a two state solution".

A poster said this on another thread and I literally can't get this out of my head. It's probably the best (and worst) case of gaslighting hasbara I have seen on any of the threads.

Just incase anyone has the notion that Gazans were reclining on their sunloungers, admiring the sea views from their luxury penthouse apartments, this is a thread to discuss life in Gaza pre 7/10.

Some facts:

Gaza fact sheet

Humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip Fast facts - OCHA factsheet

Fast Facts The population of Gaza is 1.6 million, with over 50% under 18. 38% of Gazans live in poverty. 26% of the Gazan workforce, including 38% of youths, is unemployed. The average wage declined by over 20% in the past six years.

Why do pro Palestinian supporters deluge these boards with clips and links? Isn’t the whole point of sites like Mumsnet that they are a place for people to exchange opinions and discuss their own views?

This thread is about what Gaza was like before 710. The only way to proof how it was like it’s by bringing links that support one idea or another. If you don’t like this thread then there is life outside of this thread and any other

The documentary @Ohlalalalala shared is really good. I was watching an interview with Ilan Pappe recently and he said along the same vein, that Palestine - far from being full of uncultured bedouins - was a land of deep culture and learning, and wasn't just looked up to by neighbouring countries, but by the rest of the world.

Of course! Painting Palestine as uncultured, etc. is part of the narrative dehumanising Palestinians.

Yep! Simple enough.

Just seen this on Twitter. A journalist has been laid off for supporting Palestine. The reason to leave it in this thread is because they’ve travelled multiple times to Palestine and filmed several videos which can be found in the comments

Talk about freedom of speech!

Why do pro Palestinian supporters deluge these boards with clips and links?

But pro Israelis also post clips and links 🤔

Isn’t the whole point of sites like Mumsnet that they are a place for people to exchange opinions and discuss their own views?

Not as far as I’m aware. You can do whatever you wish (unless it breaks guidelines of course). This thread was about what life is like in Gaza so people posted articles and videos on that subject. I’m not sure why that’s a problem?

Thanks! Art in the face of adversity. Such brave unbreakable people indeed!

Ohlalalalala · 18/11/2023 08:43

@feralunderclass we miss you! Please don't let your voice be silenced by those who want to stop us from seeking justice to Palestine.
@TutuDesi You too please! We need Jewish people on our threads. I know there are so so many speaking out against the genocide in real life.

I'm here from time to time. Very selfishly and self absorbedly, I need to take a step back sometimes. The scenes are so harrowing, particularly the hospital and as I said it has brought up a lot of painful memories of my time there, witnessing the human rights violations and feeling so helpless to do anything. As I sit in my warm home, with food and safety, I cannot imagine the pain, trauma and helplessness these people are feeling right now 💔.

I understand completely and I can only imagine what you must be feeling.

I've never been there (even though I'm pretty good at the history/ politics of the region and always knew about the reality of Israel and its apartheid) and I always actively avoid watching videos/ seeing photos, but still feel haunted by what I read and the very very few photos/ videos I accidentally saw.

I am in awe of those brave Palestinians. They've been treated horrifically for over 75 years. Not just by Israel's treatment but also by the West's silence.

Yes blood on Israel's hands and all of those who are complicit. The world will not forget this. Just saw one of the babies has been injured and has a very swollen, black eye 😭

😡
At what point will the West's "leaders" say stop? I feel so angry and sad and helpless, and also selfish for talking about what I am feeling while countless innocent Palestinians are being exterminated mercilessly with the world's watching. Shame on the genociders. Shame on our leaders.
😡

Was it balanced though? Did it delve at all into the terrorism that made the checkpoints necessary. The bus bombings, the pizzerias?
does having a checkpoint excuse in any way the sub human barbarism that we saw on 7th October.

Your point seems to be that the sub human barbarism of October 7th proves that Palestinians need to be contained in this way.

Every thing since Oct 7th has shown sub human barbarism of Israel.

It seems that Israeli lives are literally worth more than Palestinian.

This does not go any where good.

Those before videos are very important - they show what has been lost.
