The news tonight was unbearable.
I am sickened that the West is not calling for a ceasefire or some restraint.
I found out today that Gaza is almost exactly the same size as the small Hebridean island of Jura. But whereas Jura has a few hundred residents, Gaza has 2.4 million packed in. You couldn't throw a stone into Gaza without it hitting someone, never mind a missile.
The children of Gaza are not terrorists and I wish Israel would stop.

If hamas are hiding in qatar why arent they being infiltrated ?? Is qatar untouchable?? The ME at the moment is a tinderbox waiting to explode. Its frightening

Honeylemonandginger · 25/10/2023 08:31

It is absolutely horrific. I also wonder at what point the killing of innocents will stop!
How will they know they have eradicated Hamas? How many deaths equate to Israel’s safety and retribution?

KimberleyClark · 25/10/2023 08:32

A ceasefire would need to be from both sides: Hamas are currently firing a lot of rockets daily into Israel. These are 'home made' rockets and about a third are landing back on Gaza, killing their own people.

The bombs of the Israeli air force cause a great deal more death and destruction than those home made rockets do.

Coughingdodger · 25/10/2023 08:34

Anna Botting on Sky News a couple of days ago interviewed an Israeli minister who basically said, well, the British bombed Iraq and no one complained so why can’t Israel bomb Gaza? Why are the rules different for Israel?
While he had a point, that is the mentality you’re dealing with.

Efacsen · 25/10/2023 08:23

Are you one of the 19% who think it's okay to continue killing children like this?

You know it's possible to have sympathy for Israeli children and Gazan children too

It doesn't have to be either/or

WHERE did I say I think any of this was ok?

I said that looking at the first images and reports on the 07th December, it was obviously the start of a war. I do blame the terrorists for knowingly starting it.

Where did I say I supported a war

How the hell to extrapolate and accuse me of cheering for kids being murdered is beyond me.

Expect the excellent Israeli intelligence services are working on it right now - but these things often take a long time, it took years to track down Osama Bin Laden

And doing anything too obvious to Qatar's esteemed guests on Qatari soil really could blow up the ME

Maybe better for Israel to join the ICC and bring a case there?

@SoShallINever , I am horrified by your apparent lack of compassion for the victims of Hamas terrorism.

If countries routinely bombed the fuck out of places where terrorists were active, the UK would have bombed Northern Ireland.

Setting aside the moral considerations of bombing civilians because of the actions of a terrorist group for a moment, I think it's likely to make things worse in the long run. They're creating generations of Palestinians who will have a long standing hatred for Israel which is bound to make things worse in the future.

I'm also appalled that they've cut off the water and fuel for the generators.

Actually that’s not a good analogy as Hamas did kill Israeli children so the provocation was more than a woman hitting a man.

LakieLady · 25/10/2023 08:48

Lookatmytoes · 24/10/2023 23:08

It’s horrific. The deaths on both sides are an abomination. The continued killing of Palestinian children grotesque.

I admired the words of the Israeli pensioner who was released today. Her gesture of peace towards those who had held her hostage had so much humanity and wisdom. Would that both sides could show these qualities.

Wasn't she amazing? Made me a bit tearful, and I'm not given to weepiness at all, generally.

Prescottdanni123 · 25/10/2023 08:51

I know our priminster is a gormless wonder, but even I was surprised that he told Israel that he 'hopes they will win'. Don't get me wrong, I hope they get the hostages back. I hope there will be peace between both Israel and Palestine, although I don't know how this will be achieved. But no one fucking wins in war. Its not a game of football. When thousands die on both sides, no one can honestly call that a fucking win. Fucking awful choice of words.

Tonkerbea · 25/10/2023 08:53

Anyone who thinks YABU, that excuses the murders of babies and children in the hunt for Hamas, needs to worry about their moral compass.

And I feel deep sorrow for the victims of 7/10, which horrifically included children too, but the punishment metered out in response, to innocent civilians, is wrong on every level. There is no excuse for the war crimes taking place right now.

Not when they hit a hospital car park. That Gazan made rocket apparently 'killed 500'. Though experts have said that is impossible given the scene.

Coughingdodger · 25/10/2023 08:57

It’s so odd. We’re watching innocent people being murdered live on TV night after night and no one is stopping it.

Allthingsdecember · 25/10/2023 08:57

tantrummingterrors · 24/10/2023 23:19

@Lovepeaceunderstanding you can have compassion for both the victims of the terror attack and innocent Palestinian children/citizens. The two things are not mutually exclusive

This. Innocent people dying is always awful, especially when they are children.

Hamas are evil. They specifically chose to kill civilians. They stood in front of children and the elderly and chose to kill them. Now they are using innocent Palestinians as human shields.

I wish Israel would stop their missiles and allow humanitarian aid in. But I don’t have any answers on how they can do this without allowing Hamas to attack them again.

Are the actions of Hamas on October 7th the woman snapping and hitting her husband?

Have you read what occurred?

Apparently she is a peace campaigner. She and her husband drive Palestinians to hospital. What a wonderful person. Why can't people like her be in power.? The world would be a totally different place.

Goodornot · 25/10/2023 09:05

There are 32 ongoing conflicts in the world right now, ranging from drug wars, terrorist insurgencies, ethnic conflicts, and civil wars.

The world stood and watched the Rwandan genocide and did absolutely nothing.

The current ethnic cleansing of the Amhara (also a Semetic people) from Ethiopia.

Why does no one care about any of the other wars / genocides?

Do you not care OP? Do you know the Amhara in Ethiopia have been subjected to genocidal ethnic cleansing since 1991? Since 2020 it's intensified again. Land taken, livestock killed, gang rape, looting, forced sterilisation of women and mass killing.

I don't understand why there are multiple wars going on across the world at any one time but no one is horrified about them .. just the one which is the subject of so many threads.

FOJN · 25/10/2023 09:06

....but factually, things are going the way Hamas planned on them going. Murders and bombing was the start of a war.

I suspect you are correct but then how fucking stupid does that make the rest of the western world for supporting Israel in following a script written by terrorists.

If we want to believe we are morally superior to terrorists then we need to behave in a morally superior way. "They started it", is a shameful and frankly embarrassing justification for what's happening in Gaza right now.

The difference is, the West was not supporting those crimes.

This is an absolutely horrific, and downright anti-Semitic comment. Babies were murdered and beheaded. Children and their families tortured. People were burnt to death. A pregnant women had her baby cut out of her stomach and stabbed. This was an absolutely horrific attack on civilians in their homes. Many of whom were peace activitists (the peace festival was attacked, as we're kibbutzim, which are left wing)

@MarySmit just due to the way the quote reads I want to say I entirely agree with you and found the post I was replying to the same as you

AllowMePleaseAnna · 25/10/2023 09:23

I know I will sound totally stupid and naive now but you take Hamas and all their supporters on one side and Israeli army on the other, go find some desert or any uninhabited place and just go and kill each other if that’s what you want. Ok. Kill each other, cut each other into pieces, I don’t really care, resolve this between yourself. Leave the women and the pure and innocent souls of children alone! Don’t bomb the fucking hospitals, go bomb each other in the middle of nowhere!
I know this sounds stupid but my emotions are high! I follow a reporter, journalist on IG Motaz Azaiza in Gaza right now and the pictures and videos are nothing but hell on Earth. It’s beyond horrific and barbaric .

They have been in Yemen, which, like the one mentioned in Ethiopia, is in an area little served by television cameras, broadband etc. Yemen is an even worse humanitarian crisis and has been going on for years.
