The news tonight was unbearable.
I am sickened that the West is not calling for a ceasefire or some restraint.
I found out today that Gaza is almost exactly the same size as the small Hebridean island of Jura. But whereas Jura has a few hundred residents, Gaza has 2.4 million packed in. You couldn't throw a stone into Gaza without it hitting someone, never mind a missile.
The children of Gaza are not terrorists and I wish Israel would stop.

Where does this 'right to defend yourself' argument stop? As it stands, Israel is doing far worse to the Palestinians than Hamas did to Israel. What about the Palestinian people's right to defend themselves? By this logic, another attack by Hamas would be justified.

What we need is an immediate ceasefire.

When you position a people as animals, sub humans, then you naturally see yourself as superior and more worthy of protection and whatever you need to do to stay in your positions of priviledge

Residential areas in Khan Younis were bombed overnight. 29 deaths from one family alone. They were friends of mine, we're very good to me, their dc were all British passport holders. All dead now 💔

I am so very sad for you @feralunderclass

May they rest in peace.

No it doesn’t, nobody does. That is bullshit. If you hide behind civilians their deaths are on your hands. And if (the theocratic government of) Iran hides behind proxy terrorists the deaths are on their hands too.

This was on Hamas hands.

The extreme, sustained savagery of Isreal has moved it to their hands.

EnoughIsay · 28/10/2023 04:04

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 27/10/2023 20:49

You don’t think Israel has the right to defend itself?

This is not defense.

This is a savage sustained attack against a civilian population.

Hamas are animals.

State of Israel is right there with them at this point.

Coughingdodger · 27/10/2023 23:35

“Precision” activity. That would be funny if it wasn’t anything but.

Everyone has a right to defend themselves, sure.
No one has a right to go out and commit mass murder against thousands and thousands of innocent people.

There’s an enormous gap between the two that I would have thought that all but the most psychopathic people could easily see.

I’m talking about collecting intelligence and seeking out individual terrorists. Much as Israel did with Nazis on the run after the war.

If you object to that it would seem that you actually do believe that Israel has no right to defend itself.

But that sort of action doesn’t deal with the terrorist infrastructure. Hence military action.

Out of interest, and off the thread subject I admit, but was Israel justified in bombing Iran’s nuclear reactor years ago?

150 underground combat areas and underground terrorist infra-structure destroyed overnight [IDF]

Remind me, where are those precious hostages being held?

Sad

I find this a troubling point of view. You are saying that hostage-taking should preclude action against terrorists. That’s the terrorists’ intention, surely?

If Israel believes it more effective to combat terrorism in the longer term by using force, while hostages are held, that’s their prerogative and most would agree that negotiating with terrorist kidnappers is best avoided.

I do appreciate that states will negotiate when there’s nothing else they can do. But the Israelis clearly think that’s not the case here.

Their current strategy seems to be to flatten whole parts of Gaza including targeting Aid workers, hospitals, journalists, women, thousands of children
And let's not forget cut off all communication before their worst offensive so nobody from inside can report what it happening

As we have since the beginning of humanity. “We” are warlike.

This has to stop. IDF is now bombing the areas they directed people from Gaza to flee too. Netanyahu has to be reigned in.

GotMooMilk · 28/10/2023 13:48

Parkingt111 · 27/10/2023 21:42

First of all stop bombing hospitals, school and safe places
Stop killing journalists
Stop murdering Aid workers whilst they sleep in their homes
Let sufficient aid go in
Let the women and children and innocent civilians out
They have kept them imprisoned in a cage
Shut off all ways of communication so they can't tell the world what is happening
And now indiscriminately bombing in the dark
This is genocide

This. Can people really not see beyond ‘what else can they do’. It’s not in for a penny in for a pound, they’re murdering thousands of innocent people in the name of Hamas. It’s horrendous.

Efacsen · 29/10/2023 05:22

Telephone communications and internet connectivity were gradually returning to the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Sunday morning, according to reports by Palestinian media

It also all over Twitter people contacting family and friends to see if they are okay

No aid was able to be delivered yesterday because of the communication black-out - hopefully they were able to use the down-time to security check more lorries - this is being done at the Egyptian-Israeli border crossing 100mile round trip from the Rafah crossing.

Does Israel have control of the mobile phone network and internet? It means whatever happens there is now hidden from the world, but also that residents can't call an ambulance, check where is safe(r) to go, find the news, check on friends. If Israel has done this - is it legal?

Of course Israel isn’t controlling the internet. Mobile phone networks and internet need the infrastructure to be available for phone calls, texts and internet. Bombing phone towers etc., means that the infrastructure isn’t there. I would doubt that there are many satellite phones in Gaza.

StopReligiousDivides · 29/10/2023 08:17

localnotail · 27/10/2023 20:20

ok, maybe I put it wrong - not "fighters", but actual Hamas members. Internet says there are 25k in the military wing - but there are also other sectors, intelligence, engineers, government officials, etc etc. As I mentioned previously, Hamas are the ruling party and everyhting in Gaza - education, healthcare, police, etc - are run by them, these people will have to be Hamas party members. So I would say 100k in total is not a bad guess.

So basically if you want a job, you have to be a party member?

shame on the world leaders.
Is this what all our advancements and progress leads to.? Is this what civilisation mean - we can kill innocents because we have the power and support of others!
Horrific!💔

I would suspect the majority of - if not all - people in charge (not just military) belong to Hamas. I think a lot of people on here imagine Hamas is like some sort of a fringe organisation doing "bad stuff" when in reality they run Gaza - everyhting of importance is under their control - so a lot of people who live there belong to the Hamas party.

So if you want a job, don’t want to die and want to have some kind of peaceful life, then you have to “sign up”.

And yet, there persists a thought in the minds of people who have only ever known democracy, that the Palestinians want Hamas in charge, despite not having had elections since when?

Or even stranger, that people who are subjugated, in the way Palestinians are, should rise up against Hamas?

Not quite that easy though is it? History proves that just because you might outnumber your oppressors, doesn’t mean that you can overthrow them!

People in Gaza are hostages of Hamas, and either support their views or have to be seen supporting it to stay alive.

What really shocks me is that no one at the pro-Palestinian marches in the West seem to be protesting against Hamas. This whole issue is completely ignored, and, very often, it seems that pro-Palestine supporters are actually pro-Hamas, and see them as some sort of a righteous liberators and not horrific backward terrorists they are. Why there are no calls to Hamas ceasefire and return of the hostages?

Because Hamas is not the only problem of Palestine. The Israel settlers are problem as well kicking people out of their houses. Idf is a problem as well for Palestine killing young kids on the beach and reputable journalists.
israel is controlling everything that the Palestinians can do and this is not only because of Hamas. They’ve done it for many years

I know the situation there quite well, its horrendous and goes back a long time. But Hamas is a BIG problem, they are actively preventing any peaceful resolution and are advocating for the extermination of all Israelis. They are not interested in peace and freedom.

@localnotail i agree.

They don't seem to care about hammas because hammas are Muslims
