To be horrified re the 2000+ children killed in Gaza.

The news tonight was unbearable.
I am sickened that the West is not calling for a ceasefire or some restraint.
I found out today that Gaza is almost exactly the same size as the small Hebridean island of Jura. But whereas Jura has a few hundred residents, Gaza has 2.4 million packed in. You couldn't throw a stone into Gaza without it hitting someone, never mind a missile.
The children of Gaza are not terrorists and I wish Israel would stop.

I am Israeli and I wish they would stop.

sollenwir · 24/10/2023 23:01

I think the majority of people wish they would stop.
I don't know what the answer is.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 24/10/2023 23:03

@SoShallINever , I am horrified by your apparent lack of compassion for the victims of Hamas terrorism.

Well they could start by freeing the Israeli hostages.

No, you are very wrong there. I have Jewish heritage and was horrified by the actions of those terrorists but this is horrendous.

A lot more are going to by dying pretty soon as the water and food runs out, and diseases start running rife due to lack of hygiene facilities. If anyone is innocent in the it’s the children (on both sides)

SoShallINever · 24/10/2023 23:06

PurpleChrayne · 24/10/2023 23:03

The children of Palestine don't have any hostages as far as I am aware. If they want to go after terrorists then fair enough but 2000 children dead is wrong.
And indefensible.

It’s horrific. The deaths on both sides are an abomination. The continued killing of Palestinian children grotesque.

I admired the words of the Israeli pensioner who was released today. Her gesture of peace towards those who had held her hostage had so much humanity and wisdom. Would that both sides could show these qualities.

To clarify, I meant in relation to a longer term solution regarding the conflict in that area.

MrsSkylerWhite · 24/10/2023 23:10

Of course not. Sickening is the right word.

100% this. I often think women could find solutions that men won't consider.

That handshake between the lady and the hostage taker was the only good sign since this all began.

You think the children of Gaza should free the hostages? I don't think that's who are holding them.

Tinkerbyebye · 24/10/2023 23:18

i agree it’s awful. just as what happened in Isreal is awful.

But let’s not forget Isreal is about the only country that stands up immediately for its citizens, as has been evidenced in history.

Hamas knew that, and knew exactly what Isreal would do. Isreal gave them the opportunity to leave, they didn’t. Hamas are also hiding in tunnels using woman and children as cover for them. They don’t care who dies, Israelis or Palestinians and I really dont believe there is any reasoning with them they are terrorists.

Should you expect the Uk or Us, or indeed any country to negotiate with terrorists?

I don’t know what the answer is here, neither side is prepared to back down, women and children have been killed on both sides, although in the case of Palestine a lot were killed by their own rocket, it’s not as simple as another country trying to broker a deal, I am not sure either party would listen

Right 🤦🏾‍♀️

tantrummingterrors · 24/10/2023 23:19

@Lovepeaceunderstanding you can have compassion for both the victims of the terror attack and innocent Palestinian children/citizens. The two things are not mutually exclusive

NotSuchASmugMarried · 24/10/2023 23:20

Best we can hope for now with the impending ground invasion is a quick victory for Israel, then peace. Gazans will pay a terrible price though.

yorknotes · 24/10/2023 23:21

@borris - I completely agree with you. I think women would find solutions or compromises whereas men seem unable to, usually because of ego

Quite.

It's horrific. As was the deliberate slaughter of Jewish children.

And for what? Hamas has achieved precisely nothing. As usual women and children suffer at the hands of evil men.

wonderstuff · 24/10/2023 23:29

It’s all horrific. Both sides. I can’t see anyone winning this war. Giles Coren wrote a great piece in The Times something like if we’re arguing over which child’s murder is worse then we’re all lost.

Safxxx · 24/10/2023 23:29

Absolutely a genocide 💔 🇪🇭 heart breaking scenes of innocent lives lost.

The op does not make any comment on the hamas attack. Believing that the response of Israel is wrong does not mean that there is no compassion for the victims of the hamas attack or that there is any sympathy for the hamas terrorists. It is possible to have sympathy for both sides and in particular the innocent people on both sides

Don't be silly.

Should you expect the Uk or Us, or indeed any country to negotiate with terrorists?

YES!

Of course they bloody should.

Countries ALWAYS negotiate with terrorists.

Israel itself is born out of terrorisim - Zionist terrorists bomed the shit out of the British in the 20s-30s.
Ireland - a republic because of terrorisim
USA - a republic because of terrorisim

and on and on.

Right now it just depends on how much slaughter the Israelis are up for.

Because this is clearly about razing Gaza to the ground, ethnic cleaning and will end in a land grab.

Israel is losing all moral right.

Nethanyahu is very expensive in every possible imaginable.

Toothyfruity · 24/10/2023 23:31

It's horrific. And the support from the US, UK and EU is beyond fucked up. All have completely lost credibility in terms of having any moral standing in any conflict ever again in the future.

God love the poor babies and children in Gaza and their parents and families. It's so sad. I'm so sorry for them.
