The news tonight was unbearable.
I am sickened that the West is not calling for a ceasefire or some restraint.
I found out today that Gaza is almost exactly the same size as the small Hebridean island of Jura. But whereas Jura has a few hundred residents, Gaza has 2.4 million packed in. You couldn't throw a stone into Gaza without it hitting someone, never mind a missile.
The children of Gaza are not terrorists and I wish Israel would stop.

I think the majority of people wish they would stop.
I don't know what the answer is.

We know the answer.

They need to stop.

This is not a case of self defense at this point.

The barbarity of the Israeli government - bombing and starving to death the population of Gaza will destroy that country one way or another.

Livelovebehappy · 24/10/2023 23:34

SoShallINever · 24/10/2023 23:06

The children of Palestine don't have any hostages as far as I am aware. If they want to go after terrorists then fair enough but 2000 children dead is wrong.
And indefensible.

And how do they ‘go after’ the terrorists if they are hiding amongst the Palestinians, cowards that they are? Hamas have brought this on their own people. If Israel don’t hunt down and kill the terrorists, then they are leaving themselves exposed to more savagery. Have you seen the newsfeeds today about what exactly happened to the Israel people when Hamas attacked them? Do you really think Israel have options here?

So what is your answer to resolve this long term?

ssd · 24/10/2023 23:39

The cries of blame hamas for everything are old hat now. Over 5500 people killed in Gaza.

There's no excuse.

L1ttledrummergirl · 24/10/2023 23:39

I really wish the hamas government in gaza had given more thought to the people they are responsible for before they massacred over a thousand people, raping women and children and taking hostages, despite knowing that the resulting war would put their people in harms way.

This whole situation is unnecessary and incredibly horrific and sad. Why would a government want to bring this on their people?

Well Israel are the ones doing the bombing.

How the hell would I know?

The best and the brightest have come up with various solution over the years - usually scuppered by an asshole with big personal ambition or an asshole trying to stay out of prison.

BUT - right now? STOP THE BOMBING.

Lovepeaceunderstanding · 24/10/2023 23:44

SoShallINever · 24/10/2023 23:05

No, you are very wrong there. I have Jewish heritage and was horrified by the actions of those terrorists but this is horrendous.

@SoShallINever , am I?
for the record I’m beginning to feel really down over the entire situation. It is horrendous all round. It just doesn’t didn’t sound like you cared about the Jewish people?

caringcarer · 24/10/2023 23:46

Willyoujustbequiet · 24/10/2023 23:26

It's horrific. As was the deliberate slaughter of Jewish children.

And for what? Hamas has achieved precisely nothing. As usual women and children suffer at the hands of evil men.

Yes, this is true.

I'm trying to sleep and literally everytime I close my eyes I see images from Gaza. I've joined alot of new Instagram pages to try and get a balanced view from different sources and I've just sobbed and sobbed tonight and I'm safe. I've also heard the stories being told today from the Hama's body cams and seem some of the images. I can't get any of it out my head. I think it's the first time a war has been so 'visual'.

I still think there needs to be a ceasefire from both sides and fuels needs to get to these hospitals.

My grandmother, who survived the Holocaust would just be heartbroken by all of this.

caringcarer · 24/10/2023 23:48

Toothyfruity · 24/10/2023 23:41

Rockets are still being fired from Gaza.

This kind of anxious hand wringing is crap.

Hamas started it - YES.

Hamas deserve all that can be thrown at them - YES.

Hamas are animals - YES.

Now - stop the fucking bombing.

And Israeli or Jew who cannot see the barbarity of this, and how utterly fucking egregious it is, just blows my mind.

Moonwatcher1234 · 24/10/2023 23:52

Urge everybody to watch channel 4 news today. The report from Gaza is utterly heartbreaking. Parents saying goodbye to their children in this way is totally tragic no matter who they are - Palestinian or Israeli. I wish those same posters who pop up repeatedly to protest when anybody expresses concern for Gaza would acknowledge this.

Toothyfruity · 24/10/2023 23:52

caringcarer · 24/10/2023 23:48

Rockets are still being fired from Gaza.

Ok well keep killing thousands of children and civilians with state of the art missiles then in a tiny highly populated area with no water, food or power coming in and no iron dome to protect them and nowhere to flee to.

That seems reasonable.

bathrobeandpie · 24/10/2023 23:55

I am not sure what people expected and why they wait until they see pictures on tv to react.

It was sadly blindingly obvious it would be a carnage the second the first shot was fired, let alone the first bomb.

As you said, it's a tiny territory. The children of Israel are being murdered, the children of Gaza are being murdered, and it's spreading.

You can only salute the people fighting relentlessly to try to organise safety corridors and risking their life trying to help.

Is it likely it will stop soon and give the terrorists a chance to regroup and strike again? I don't know, but I suspect not.

Edited

I did watch it. I don't think I'll sleep tonight.
I don't know what can be done other than for both sides to just stop. Killing children achieves nothing.

Don’t think it’s fair for you to put Israelis and Jews together in your last paragraph.

Many Jews do not support what Israel is doing and it’s wrong for you to conflate the two. In fact, many non Jews support Israel right now, so where do they sit? Jews are not responsible for Israel’s actions.

TheBigTVonWheels · 24/10/2023 23:57

@Livelovebehappy So is there any limit to that? If Israel has to kill 50,000 civilians to get to the Hamas leadership, is that justifiable? And do you think that will make Israelis safe?

HRTQueen · 24/10/2023 23:58

Israel won’t stop and the US will continue to have their back. They will make noises towards Israel but it will be meaningless and Israel know this Biden has an election next year

once Gaza is crushed they will turn more attention to the West Bank

The Hamas "government" care nothing for the Palestinian people they are sacrificing by starting this war, and they did induce exactly what is happening.
They knew Israel would retaliate - they committed barbaric acts in Israel and knew people would condemn Israel for the likely retaliation.
They want to destabilise the ME and stop the developing relations between Israel and other ME countries because they want Israel to no longer exist.
They hide among civilians and know this will mean civilians are harmed disproportionately.

They knew this would happen and do not care as long as instability and condemnation of Israel results.

I think 50,000 is a conservative figure and it's much more likely to be 500,000.

Like I said earlier, I think the best we can hope for now is for Israel to have a quick victory rather than a slow one.

The only answer NOW is to stop the bombing.

For the first time in my lifetime I am utterly disgusted by the State of Israel and am rapidy getting to a place where I can no longer support it.

It's behaviour here is abhorent.

It is not chasing Hamas.

It is covering up catastrophic failure by the army and intelligence services.

Gazan civillians are paying for it.

Neither of us could come close to knowing what the people of Israel are currently going through. This isn’t that their country has been bombed. They’ve been attacked in the most horrific way by a bunch of savages who have raped, tortured, kidnapped, murdered and mutilated families. If Hamas aren’t killed, then they will return and continue what they started. Do you really think if the bombing stopped tomorrow, that all would be good, and Hamas would just retreat back to their hideaways in Gaza? They would see it as a weakness. Israel have absolutely no options here but to continue to protect their people.
