To be horrified re the 2000+ children killed in Gaza.

The news tonight was unbearable.
I am sickened that the West is not calling for a ceasefire or some restraint.
I found out today that Gaza is almost exactly the same size as the small Hebridean island of Jura. But whereas Jura has a few hundred residents, Gaza has 2.4 million packed in. You couldn't throw a stone into Gaza without it hitting someone, never mind a missile.
The children of Gaza are not terrorists and I wish Israel would stop.

There's a part of me that's still, perhaps naively, in shock, that we still have genocide defenders amongst us as we speak

@WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps if you believe in the Israel has the right to defend itself line then the deaths of the civilians is on your hands

You don’t think Israel has the right to defend itself?

vestedinterests · 27/10/2023 21:04

@WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps by killing children and blocking humanitarian aid?

Perhaps if London Muslims keep defacing the pictures of the innocent Israelis (mostly women and children) kidnapped and murdered by Hamas, we'll forget what provoked all this.

Not aware that anyone disagrees that Israel has the right to defend itself.

Just that the way they have chosen to execute this defence is anything but.

They cannot eradicate Hamas with bombs, shells even guns. All they are doing is recruiting more terrorists.

No-one spouting the 'right to defend' line has explained how the IDF actions will achieve this. They have tried the same thing many times and failed - why should it work this time?

Please, please if you can, please go to the protest tomorrow in your city or town. They are happening up and down the country tomorrow. Please turn up and put pressure on this shameful government

Put pressure on them to do what? It’s not our war, and we absolutely should not get involved. Sick of these protests on our streets. It will achieve nothing.

What do you suggest happens? What would you like Israel to do, apart from stopping the bombing? Hearing a lot on here about what they shouldn’t do, but not what other options are available to them.

First of all stop bombing hospitals, school and safe places
Stop killing journalists
Stop murdering Aid workers whilst they sleep in their homes
Let sufficient aid go in
Let the women and children and innocent civilians out
They have kept them imprisoned in a cage
Shut off all ways of communication so they can't tell the world what is happening
And now indiscriminately bombing in the dark
This is genocide

How much lack of empathy. Hope nothing ever happens to you and expect empathy from others

btw if this is not our war then I hope sunak stops talking on my name. I don’t want Israel to win if that means 2m Palestinians are death

I’d as as well
Release 6000 people that have nothing to do with Hamas but been arrested for being Palestinians

stop stealing their homes
stop killing their kids
stop raping their women
give them their water

basically treat Palestinians like humans

If you don't think this is your problem, then why are you involving yourself on this thread?
Go piss off

If it’s not our war why is the UK selling arms to Israel and offering them military aid?

Lonelycrab · 27/10/2023 21:52

Genocide

Just watched a clip of an interview of an ex Israeli soldier who basically says that unless Israel government treated Palestinian like humans (not keeping them under military occupation, giving them the same right to freedom and movement as their own citizens. Stop forcing them out of their own homes) then perhaps there can be change.

Exactly

I've just figured out how to post a previous quote on my response.
Only taken me a week on this forum to figure it out

And what do they do to protect their own people? If they can’t eradicate Hamas, then how do they remove the threat to the Israelis? If they did all the above, do you think Hamas would stop attacking Israel? Of course not.

They can make peace. And ultimately that's the only way that the attacks will stop. If kettling people in Gaza for generations was going to work then it would have worked by now.

I'm not sure I'm convinced the government cares so much for their own people. They don't seem to be concerned much for the hostages.
Hamas is a creation of Israels brutality. Continuing their agression towards Palestinians will only create more radicals willing to resort to similar acts of violence....
Unless of course they just kill the whole lot of them

defend whom? to its civilians?? to outside world??? to its powerful alleys??? to its sort of foes?

FrankieStein403 · 27/10/2023 22:49

They can't eradicate Hamas by bombing, shelling, invading Gaza - it's a guerilla war and you cannot win such a war that way. It has not worked in the past - they need to try something else.

Israel has every right to defend itself
Hamas must release all hostages
I stand by that

What I don't agree with is Israels strategy in this war. It will not rid of Hamas this way. And in the process it will murder many civilians

I think I read somewhere that hamas had offered to negotiate the release of all hostages if Israel stopped carpet bombing gaza.
Not sure if it was a reliable report though?

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 27/10/2023 22:54

If everyone laid down arms and shook hands to protect our children.
The future.
Then this could stop tomorrow.
Lay down your arms, protect the children.
There is always a way.
Find peace.

I think they probably can. They can’t stop all the anti-Jewish hatred, sure. But they can deal with one terrorist group after another.

The ‘precision’ activity against terrorist maniacs has always been part of Israel’s strategy and always will be. But the need to destroy the rocket sites, arms dumps, tunnels and other infrastructure and hardware that Hamas and Hezbollah rely on is also necessary.

Coughingdodger · 27/10/2023 23:35

“Precision” activity. That would be funny if it wasn’t anything but.

Everyone has a right to defend themselves, sure.
No one has a right to go out and commit mass murder against thousands and thousands of innocent people.

There’s an enormous gap between the two that I would have thought that all but the most psychopathic people could easily see.
