At what point will it stop? Why are the Palestinians seen as vermin? Ethnic cleansing is what this is.

@Toothyfruity

Yes, no war crimes, I agree. But are they committing war crimes? They’ve given warning (unlike Hamas) and given time for people to move. But Hamas are not making it easy for people to leave and positioning themselves amongst civilians.

When they position themselves amongst civilians, they are putting their own people in the line of fire. They see this as justified.

Whar would you do if terrorists had come over your border and raped and murdered people, and beheaded babies - and these terrorists positioned themselves amongst more children and civilians knowing what will happen?

It’s hard to justify the actions of Hamas. They are not interested in protecting their own people.

You keep trotting this narrative out on multiple threads despite it being pointed out to you many times that not even the IDF claim babies where beheaded and in fact they haven't got any evidence to confirm it...not any.

What Hamas did is absolutely horrendous that no sane person would try and justify but what sane person would try and make a claim the terrorist atrocities were more horrific than they already are?

Ok I'm going to take it that you're genuinely unfamiliar with the subject. I've studied international humanitarian law and the law of armed conflict and I can't stress enough how unacceptable Israel's current actions are.

First of all here is a brief summary from Human Rights Watch of the ways that Israel has broken international law including committing war crimes before this latest conflict emerged. https://www.hrw.org/news/2017/06/04/israel-50-years-occupation-abuses

Regarding the last fortnight, I've attached a summary of the 4th Geneva Convention. Currently Israel is breaking too many of these laws to even get into. And this isn't exhaustive unfortunately in terms of laws of armed conflict that are being broken by Israel at the moment.

Have a look and she what should happen in war (and it's not a war in Palestine at the moment as one side is an occupying force with an enormous US backed military) compared with what Israel is doing now.

Edit : Apologies the screenshot isn't clear. Here is a link to the original doc https://www.redcross.org/content/dam/redcross/atg/PDF_s/International_Services/International_Humanitarian_Law/IHL_SummaryGenevaConv.pdf

I deleted the Daily Mail app to protect my mental health. I wasn't expecting the same crowd on MN. The comments on this thread are absolutely vile.

If you really want to see what the Palestinians are enduring right now go and view Motaz_azaiza profile on Instagram. And then imagine your children in the place of those innocent civilians. It's not a war, it's a massacre. It's murder on the world stage and our so-called leaders are facilitating it all. It's an illegal occupation and it didn't start on 7th October. Please educate yourselves on the history of the region before proclaiming that Israel have a right to defend themselves.

hamstersarse · 22/10/2023 18:46

I’m not sure what you expect Israel to do? Just put up with Hamas coming over their borders and murdering people?

They could, of course, totally flatten Gaza but they aren’t doing that. It’s not ‘ethnic cleansing’ by any stretch of the imagination, it’s defence of borders. Defence to neighbours who don’t think they should even exist. Do you believe there should be a state of Israel? Or that Palestine should be “from the river to the sea”?

What did England do when the IRA bombed London? Did we destroy Ireland? Cut them off? No. What’s the difference?

@Toothyfruity is this the same HWR who took money from Saudi Arabia? Or the one that the founder has now denounced as being biased and corrupt?

@PinkTeaForMe Do you feel equal disgust to how Hamas treat their own people or it is just reserved for Israel?

You’d think if Hamas were interested in peace, they’d have sat down years ago and negotiated. Instead, they turn down the 2 state solution and remain steadfast in their desire to end Israel.

What happened on October 7th was wrong but what Israel has done every day since with the collusion of US and some in Europe is not justifiable.

It's not just collusion. The inflammatory language used by some US politicians, in a week where a little boy has been stabbed to death, is indefensible.

Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas has said, "As far as I’m concerned, Israel can bounce the rubble in Gaza. Anything that happens in Gaza is the responsibility of Hamas,”

"Look what you made me do!"

If you don't know the difference between the IRA and northern Ireland compared to Hamas or any of the other terrorist groups in that area then you shouldn't really be commenting on these threads. It's not helpful.

yummyscummymummy01 · 22/10/2023 21:22

Every single thread on this ends up with people getting defensive and pointing out how horrible Hamas is.
Literally nobody is sticking up for Hamas and saying they're great guys. Nobody on here anyway.
What people are saying is that a disproportionate and horrendous amount of people are dying as a consequence of what Hamas did. I honestly couldn't give a shiny shit
if it's 2000 rather than 4000. That's 2000 too many as far as I'm concerned, Also this is no 'war'. This is 2 million odd people squashed into one side of a country being repeatedly fired on.
People saying the news outlets are taking a side in some cases are probably right but I don't think the BBC, are its just that the situation is what it is. An absolute and complete massacre.

It's actually been confirmed by coroners, and sadly they are going to be releasing further videos because people do keep downplaying the reality of what happened. If anything it's worse than originally reported.

hamstersarse · 22/10/2023 21:34

@yummyscummymummy01

The BBC refuse to call Hamas a terrorist group. They are regularly interviewing Hamas leaders. Can you imagine them ‘platforming’ ISIS in such a way? Or the Taliban?

in your view, what would be a proportional response from Israel? I’m going to predict that you think none.

You seem ill informed. What is the difference? Where did the IRA come from and where did Hamas come from? Maybe learn about the history of Gaza and you may make the obvious connection. Don’t tell me not to comment on a thread because you don’t understand how terrorist groups come to exist.

Lemonlettuce · 22/10/2023 21:39

I wonder would some of these responses be the same if the thread was about Russia and Ukraine….

It doesn't change the fact that Israel committed these crimes.

Have you no comment to make about the Geneva Conventions that Israel is currently breaking? Didn't think so.

I posted a link. You asked what war crimes Israel was committing and it's too many to mention so I posted it for your information.

Not sure why you asked me the question to be honest when you've no interest in the answer.

I guess it doesn't matter how much truth you're presented with when don't care about civilians being mistreated and murdered.

I was about to suggest the same Instagram profile. Absolutely horrendous, horrendous viewing.

The comments on this thread are so depressing. What Hamas did was so evil. But the IDF is committing war crimes. What good is it to warn you to leave if you have no fuel or roads to go on. Or you're a baby in NICU, where can you go.
The whole situation is absolutely horrific.

How so? How do you know more than me? Using political speech but not explaining the obvious. A country oppressed and a terrorist group is formed. Sounds very familiar. Unless you have a better way to word it?

Yeah, that’s a rational response to what I’ve posted 🙄

Im genuinely interested to hear what you think Israel should do about the terrorists that killed 1400 civilians?

What exactly would be acceptable?

What are your views about how Hamas position themselves near their own people, knowing they’ve provoked Israel?

Do you think it’s justifiable that Hamas believe that Israel should not exist?

It sounds familiar to you because it's a dogma that's been endlessly drilled into the minds of the inmates of western civilization. I'm not going to explain it to you as if this has never come up before over and over again on thread after thread.

WhileMyDishwasherGentlyWeeps · 22/10/2023 22:01

Always the same. Always.

Israel suffers bombings, rockets, stabbings, shootings, kidnapping and all the rest, committed by groups explicitly dedicated to the destruction of the nation and its people, but any action by Israel and out come the protestors.

Does it ever occur to protesters that Israel - the only Jewish state on earth - protects its people fiercely because of what Jews have suffered? This isn’t like a terrorist group causing mayhem in Italy, Germany, Spain, France or the UK.

It should be bloody obvious that attacking Israelis provokes a strong response. Not that Israel’s response could be much different in any circumstances anyway, given how Hamas and Hezbollah operate.
