First thread here but it’s full

Medical Aid to Palestine posted this thread on facebook describing the scenes in Gaza as being like the last days of humanity with one of their staff members having to search through piles of bodies to find his 13 year old niece https://www.facebook.com/100064712829372/posts/pfbid028yxpzimtA3apA6CSs8dEhJBd16rYUQR6QjFidEpwRCZzPVYoeJezX8nDrtZP2UZRl/?app=fbl

The main stream press aren’t really addressing the horror of what is happening (bar maybe Channel 4 news and Al Jazeera) - it’s a sanitised version.

As I said in the original thread, there has been absolute horror on both sides but the Israeli government are inflicting collective punishment on the people of Gaza, which is a war crime under international law.

I still feel we are watching genocide in real time.

Just seen this on the news- how can this be right? It genuinely is starting to feel like genocide. What Hamas did was beyond appalling. But this i...

@Fortheloveofwatermelon I may just be paranoid. I saw the video of a hijab having a concrete slap throw at her yesterday and people just stood there and watched. So it has put me on high alert. It might have been nothing but my paranoia. Or maybe it wasn't. I will ever know. But I'm definitley on edge when normally I wouldn't give it another seconds thought

*Just to clarify, this image is from July 2006, and refers to the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah taking place at the time. Despite the low resolution, you can see the date if you look closely at the top right corner.

The Independent has been digital-only since 2016*

@macrowave oh that’s weird- it was actually shared by them.

Maybe it’s highlighting how long this has been going on & how the issues remain the same.

This is what Israel shows on their propaganda adverts on YouTube as well.

Modern, Western Israelis versus Arab looking Muslims.

I didn't know that, I don't use YouTube, so when I heard it I was shocked. He was then talking about sharing the same values and I just thought they aren't my values, you aren't sharing that with me.

I don't know if anyone saw the daughter of one of the hostages who was released talking on GMB this morning. Her father is still a hostage, a man in his 80s. Her dignity and compassion for everyone was amazing. Her mother was the woman who shook hands with one of the Hamas men guarding her and said Shalom. What an amazing family. Of only everyone had their values.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 27/10/2023 19:10

“At least 7,326 Palestinians, including 3,038 children, have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since 7 October”

News of a ground invasion makes me feel sick- how many more kids are going to die?

Unfortunately the Israeli government does not. As they are showing this evening.

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 I don't know how anyone can now say this is 'preserving security'. There's a woman on Ch4 news now from Washington saying Isreal are 'entitled to react' to Hamas. With impunity and however brutally as they want it seems. Why have they cut phones lines & the internet in Gaza? How is that preserving their security when they are the invading force? What about the hostages in there?

They really don’t seem to be bothered about the hostages.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 27/10/2023 19:40

“Why have they cut phones lines & the internet in Gaza?”

@Weddingpuzzle so the international community can’t see what they are doing probably.

Al Shifa hospital has 60,000 people sheltering there and Israel have apparently said they have to leave as they are going to bomb it later. Another war crime.

I don't understand that. The negotiator, think he's from Qatar, says he can get them out in a couple of days if IDF agree to stop the bombing. Why wouldn't they do that? If one of my kids was a hostage I'd be beyond furious with the govt for not putting their safety first.

notimagain · 27/10/2023 19:55

"Why have they cut phones lines & the internet in Gaza?”"

History shows it's fairly standard move in the early stages of a campaign to disrupt the ability of an opponent, in this case Hamas, to communicate both internally and externally across borders...if people want to read more into it for whatever reason so be it, but attempting to disrupt command and control will be the main reason.

I'm afraid and I suspect many of the hostages may well have died/been killed days ago...if they had still been alive it would have suited Hamas to trickle release them as a PR move over an extended period.

I'd have thought they'd be using satellite phones for that very reason. There's also radio, I'm a ham so have chatted to people all over the world without needing phone lines or internet. I'm sure Hamas can figure that out.

I'd speculate satphones might possibly be denied by the service provider -

As for basic radio, voice or otherwise - I'd think the IDF or allied agencies would be pretty handy at the dark arts of Electronic Warfare (jamming, spoofing etc)

CosimoPiovasco · 27/10/2023 20:30

They are still having trouble with all sorts of communication.

I'm not sure what electronic spoofing means I just know there are so many different frequencies and wavelengths you can use it would be hard for Israel to interfere with them all. We aren't even talking about great distances, I've chatted to a taxi driver in New York before now, he was just on his normal radio he uses for work so transmitting from Gaza to the West Bank or Egypt would be nothing really. Amateur radio can be quite interesting.

Just wanted to add I don't do morse but DH does which gives even more opportunity.

Israel are now carpet bombing Gaza- apparently the worst it’s been- no food, no water, no medicine, no light, no Internet, no hope.

I will never forgive the people that have supported this genocide:

Those poor people, the Palestinians and the hostages.

CosimoPiovasco · 27/10/2023 20:55

Israel sent an image of a hamas flag inside a building
Trying to justify bombing hospitals.
Fake imagery.
For all we know all the hospitals are gone already.

Murdering the innocent

Sippingmytea · 27/10/2023 20:55

They’ve cut the internet so that we can’t see what’s happening. I saw a tweet from Netanyahu that said the Al Shifa hospital is the hq of Hamas in some mocked up video that he’s presenting as “proof”. There’s thousands of families sheltering in that hospital.

I feel sick at what’s about to happen. Shame on all of you in here who support this. It is so completely morally wrong.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 27/10/2023 21:02

@Sippingmytea I feel deeply disturbed and upset this evening- a huge crime against humanity is happening before our eyes and no one is doing anything.

Tarek Abu Azzoum is still reporting from Khan Younis and Al Jazeera are speaking to a Palestinian in an apartment 200m from the coast who can see Gaza City on a satellite phone. But otherwise it seems like every other Comms channel has been cut. I can see the tactical.readon from a military POV but do they always cut Comms for everyone?

SinnerBoy · 27/10/2023 23:24

There's nothing outwardly controversial about cutting off communications, but it does have the advantage for Israel in the way that it's difficult for anyone to get news out, so they can act with impunity. Murdering reporters is also part of their standard operating procedures.

I think there have been more than 30 reporter's killed, so far.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 27/10/2023 23:31

Everyone who supports this has blood on their hands.

SinnerBoy · 28/10/2023 01:02

Reporters, no apostrophe! Blinking autodefect....

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 28/10/2023 05:26

I have never seen such disturbing commentary as I have seen on Twitter in the last few hours by main stream
commentators too who are speaking out against what is happening in Gaza- Channel 4 journalists, MPs, US senate members - it’s utterly utterly horrific.
