First thread here but it’s full

Medical Aid to Palestine posted this thread on facebook describing the scenes in Gaza as being like the last days of humanity with one of their staff members having to search through piles of bodies to find his 13 year old niece https://www.facebook.com/100064712829372/posts/pfbid028yxpzimtA3apA6CSs8dEhJBd16rYUQR6QjFidEpwRCZzPVYoeJezX8nDrtZP2UZRl/?app=fbl

The main stream press aren’t really addressing the horror of what is happening (bar maybe Channel 4 news and Al Jazeera) - it’s a sanitised version.

As I said in the original thread, there has been absolute horror on both sides but the Israeli government are inflicting collective punishment on the people of Gaza, which is a war crime under international law.

I still feel we are watching genocide in real time.

Just seen this on the news- how can this be right? It genuinely is starting to feel like genocide. What Hamas did was beyond appalling. But this i...

Gaza is prime coastal fertile land with natural gas.
Israel wants it.

Weddingpuzzle · 01/11/2023 21:34

@Coughingdodger could explain why there has been such universal consensus amongst western leaders too.

The use of the phrase 'Israel has a right to defend itself' has been so widely said by US, UK, French, German, Canadian and Israeli leaders that there's uptake and spread of it all over social media. It's become a bit of a stock phrase and the fact that there's been little to no divergence from it made me think of nudge theory. It's interesting that there's been such consensus.

"Could you just confirm which dams, tank factories and airfields are being bombed in Gaza?"

I think you know that that's just a silly post.

I know nothing of the sort. In WWII, huge numbers of German civilians were involved in the manufacture of war materiel for the Nazi forces. Killing them, along with destroying the factories was seen as part of the war effort.

So tell me, all the Palestinians killed indiscriminately by Israel - how many were part of a vast, well organised war materiel effort by Hamas?

The two situations are not remotely comparable.

I am really having trouble following your arguments.🤔

This from the United Nations conference of Trade
So perfectly legitimate

So Biden had finally called for a ‘humanitarian pause’ but just so they can get the hostages out? What about everyone else? There HAS to be a ceasefire now to stop the Genocide.

Please stop posting about this 'genocide' crap.

"To constitute genocide, there must be a proven intent on the part of perpetrators to physically destroy a national, ethnical, racial or religious group. Cultural destruction does not suffice, nor does an intention to simply disperse a group."

There is no 'proven intent' on the part of Israel to do this.
They have actively negotiated for the release of hostages, dual nationality individuals and seriously ill Gazans.

mydiaryisfull · 02/11/2023 06:24

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 You want to see real genocide, well here it is;

Warning, distressing images

“There is no 'proven intent' on the part of Israel to do this”

@mydiaryisfull laughable remark frankly!

You clearly didn’t read the Israeli government document that has been shared on here a couple of times where they actually state their intentions.

Its actually so depressing and offensive to read comments like yours now after what’s happened in the last 3 weeks.

@mydiaryisfull “You want to see real genocide, well here it is”

And given that no one from the International community has been allowed into Gaza for the last 3 weeks, not sure how you can claim with such certainty that it’s not happening.

Well that's funny because I saw a reporter there from Al Jezeera 2 days ago.

If you find my comments 'depressing and offensive' then don't read them, and carry on with your rose-coloured specs.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 02/11/2023 06:36

@mydiaryisfull ’rose coloured specs’?

Theres literally NOTHING rosy about the fact that 3500 children have died in the last 3 weeks. Or that over 10,000 civilians have been killed, or 2.3 million have been collectively punished, denied food, water, medicine.

And the Al Jazeera reporters are Palestinians who live in Gaza 🙄 One of them lost his wife, children and grandchildren.

@mydiaryisfull you are literally sharing Israeli government propaganda. Saying that- I blame both Hamas and Israel’s government equally.

None of it is the fault of the Palestinian people though. Some of us can make the distinction. 3500 children are not to blame for this. Israel have disregarded international law & the geneva conventions. So spare me your Israeli government propaganda.

@Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 "Israel have disregarded international law & the geneva conventions. "

If that is true then it will be dealt with appropriately by an International court after the war.
Banging on about it now will not stop the war - only Hamas can do that.

In the meantime Israel is collecting information from deceased Hamas terrorists who took part in the Festival Massacre. This is in the form of paper instructions and bodycam footage.
They also have statements from survivors.

They will also be alleging War Crimes

Jesus, just listen to your language. Most of us are on here because we are completely outraged by the deaths of so many kids. It’s a parenting website FFS.

Israel need to stop the collective punishment of Palestinian people. It’s not a war- it’s ethnic cleansing.

What Hamas did is brutal. But the retaliation has been brutal too.

Rubbish.

The Gaza Strip was under Egyptian military rule from 1949 to 1956 and again from 1957 to 1967.

So why didn't they develop the gas reserves if they had so much potential, and as Egypt is short of gas ?

No,
It's rubbish that Israel wants it. They have their own fuel supplies from the Mari and Noa fields.

That still doesn't answer the question as to why Egypt didn't develop it in tandem with Gaza?

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 02/11/2023 07:15

@mydiaryisfull have I defended Hamas at any point?

You are missing the point totally. I don’t care about Hamas. The people of Gaza haven’t had a free election since 2006. I care about the thousands of Palestinians being slaughtered in Gaza as part of a collective punishment by the Israeli government.

Stop trying to turn the topic away from Israel’s disproportionate response by sharing more Israeli IDF propaganda. Yes the people of Gaza don’t have a voice thanks to Hamas- it’s STILL not their fault. Collective punishment is STILL wrong.
