First thread here but it’s full

Medical Aid to Palestine posted this thread on facebook describing the scenes in Gaza as being like the last days of humanity with one of their staff members having to search through piles of bodies to find his 13 year old niece https://www.facebook.com/100064712829372/posts/pfbid028yxpzimtA3apA6CSs8dEhJBd16rYUQR6QjFidEpwRCZzPVYoeJezX8nDrtZP2UZRl/?app=fbl

The main stream press aren’t really addressing the horror of what is happening (bar maybe Channel 4 news and Al Jazeera) - it’s a sanitised version.

As I said in the original thread, there has been absolute horror on both sides but the Israeli government are inflicting collective punishment on the people of Gaza, which is a war crime under international law.

I still feel we are watching genocide in real time.

I haven’t seen one person on here who is supporting Hamas. What they did was atrocious. But that doesn’t mean that Israel can use the Hamas attacks to justify annihilating Palestine. What Israel is doing goes way beyond trying to wipe out Hamas. I can’t believe anybody can be so simple as to think criticising Israel amounts to supporting Hamas.

Nobody thinks that criticising Israel in itself amounts to supporting Hamas. But it is naive at best to call for an unconditional ceasefire without taking into account that Hamas is an active party to the conflict with many cards they can play (they hold 220 hostages, mainly civilians; they hold huge amounts of resources meant for Gazan civilians; they are still able to fire huge barrages of rockets at Israeli cities), and that international pressure on Israel for an unconditional ceasefire is part of Hamas's strategy to reduce the concessions that they have to make on their side.

War is ugly. The actions of democratic countries are ugly. The actions of terrorist organisations hiding literally under a civilian population with little regard for the civilians they govern are ugly. I know it's easier for people to believe they are making a nonviolent statement than it is to look seriously at Hamas and then ask where could we go from here in a way that would address the very serious problems that they and their infrastructure represent for civilians both in Israel and in Gaza. Perhaps an immediate ceasefire is the way. But that needs to come with some serious and credible commitment to freeing the hostages, and to rebuilding Gaza without Hamas.

Good post @nowordsforthis

Qatar have been conducting negotiations between Hamas and Israel apparently. It’s their negotiation that resulted in the release of the first couple of hostages. I also read that it’s become harder since the bombardment of the last couple of days.

What I also think is true though is that yes, Hamas is a terrorist organisation. They have been holding Gaza hostage for 17 years to a degree without free elections. The Palestinian people have had no choice and thus it makes their collective punishment worse I think.

Perhaps your beloved hamas could just give them back or not have dragged them off in the first place. Has that ever crossed your mind.

How pathetic. Where have I said anything positive about Hamas? If you can't actually respond without lying perhaps don't reply

Just to be clear I don't have a time machine so what happened on 7th October can't be changed. What Isreal is doing now can be stopped. Has that crossed your mind?

OF COURSE I am not in any way endorsing the killing of children, what is happening now is horrifying...but Hamas need to be taken out so everyone can move together in peace...children need to be taught acceptance, not hate, otherwise this will never end. The normal people in Gaza will be far better off without Hanas.

Yes, let's teach children acceptance and not hate whilst we bomb their mothers, sisters, brothers and cousins.

Let's teach the children acceptance whilst we starve them of food, water and medical supplies.

Great way to teach acceptance isn't it.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 29/10/2023 09:46

@SadTimes96 yes EXACTLY. It’s hard not to distrust the motives of the Israeli government when this is happening. They keep saying they have taken out ‘450’ Hamas targets but in reality they are just raising Gaza to the ground & starving it’s population of mostly kids.

It really is so awful. They could have done all of this without starving children and cutting medical supplies. They chose not to and that massively discredits them and shows that they are targeting children.

Forgot to finish the sentence there "Yes, the offer from the Israelis was generous but he justified and that's his and the PLO's decision because it was the fact Palestinians and their descendants did not have the right of return that Jewish Israelis do."

If an Palestinian-American citizen with the birthplace of, let's say, Safed wanted to visit Palestine, they can't do so using Israeli airports - they have to fly Egypt or Jordan and drive up. Arafat found this unfair.

Thank you for this post. I have read time and time again on this that the Palestinians refused a two state solution but this information was not really widely available as to why they refused it. The way it was presented it seemed they wanted an unreasonable amount of land or something.

SinnerBoy · 29/10/2023 11:03

The way it was presented it seemed they wanted an unreasonable amount of land or something.

Well, the area of land was also a factor, because Israel wanted to keep a large amount that they weren't entitled to. This is now presented as greedy and unreasonable of the Palestinians, in rejecting a "generous" offer from Israel.

Sippingmytea · 29/10/2023 12:02

Most advanced army in general world, the only democracy in the Middle East … and yet somehow they can’t figure out how to stop terrorists without slaughtering 2 million innocent adults and children. It’s absolutely disgusting.

Everythingnotsavedwillbelost73 · 29/10/2023 12:13

@Sippingmytea they’ve just told another hospital to evacuate immediately as they are going to bomb it.

Its honestly so disgusting that it’s being allowed to happen. Biden could stop this immediately with 1 phone call.

The clearest way to propagandize for the IDF, and divert attention from the slaughter of Palestinian civilians, is by shouting "anti-semitism" at any criticism of Netanyahu's campaign and drowning out any nuanced discussion.

I suppose if that hospital gets bombed tonight it will turn out it was a Hamas missile gone wrong. Amazing how these coincidences happen.

The RedCrescent are reporting that parts of Al Quds hospital has been bombed by Israel. Currently thousands of families sheltering there after being forced out of their homes and now having to evacuate again.

I cannot understand why this hasn’t been stopped.

Notbeinfunnehbut · 29/10/2023 17:09

At the risk of pointing out the obvious how do we know some of the carpet bombing hasn’t killed some of the hostages?

unless….the IDF have a clearer indication of where said hostages are then they are letting on, because they are literally making any sensible moves to retrieve those hostages the families must be furious

Notbeinfunnehbut · 29/10/2023 17:10

They literally aren’t that should say

I agree and it's that sort of behaviour that is hugely damaging and likely to be fuelling a rise in actual antisemitism, which is on the rise and causing harm.

They already have. Families in Israel have been protesting.

Evidence that’s what this has always been about.
The idea that Israel are advising people to move south for their own safety all lies…what a surprise!

Well Egypt hasn't been opening the border.
Please remember Hamas admit using civilians as human shields and their goal is to kill all Jews.
What is happening to innocent Gazans is terrible but they need to be freed of Hamas.
