I don’t view Hamas as humans, they are pure evil.

However I am astonished at the atrocities Israel are committing and getting away with, I want to believe they are good and just defending themselves but it’s getting harder to do that. I have some questions if anyone could answer, I would be grateful. Before this gets deleted as that’s probably inevitable as mumsnet doesn’t like anyone questioning Israel.

Over 1,000 children have been killed since this all began. Why are Palestinian children’s lives not viewed as important as Israelis?

To the people who say Israel need to destroy Hamas. If Hamas had underground tunnels within Israel. Underneath Israeli homes, hospitals. Would you support the dropping of bombs and view the killing of innocent Israeli civilians as collateral damage and an unavoidable tragedy? Or do you think Israel, who has arguably the most efficient intelligence in the world, would find another way to obliterate them?

The UK and US wrongfully invaded Iraq killing thousands of civilians, some members of the army were raping women and in one case burnt a child alive. If at that time, Iraq had decided to bomb the UK killing thousands of civilians as a way to defend themselves, would you also support that?

The most recent tragedy last night at the hospital. Israel immediately took responsibility and were quite proud they had ‘killed terrorists’. They then deleted this tweet and backtracked saying it was Hamas, releasing audio between two members as ‘proof’.

How can they intercept phone calls between terrorists but failed to see the initial attack and massacre of innocent israelis coming? How is this considered as proof? The two people talking could be anyone.

Why would they claim responsibility if it was nothing to do with them?

What are the chances that a rocket misfires and just happens to land on a hospital that was supposed to be keeping hundreds of Palestinians safe?

Israel has been bombing and killing Palestinians for decades - this didn't just start. The US justify it because they are funding it. Simple as that.

It is being shut down by MN. I was accused of anti-semitism by this lovely poster and the whole thread was pulled.

Now that is ridiculous. I reported on a different thread, MN's reply included the following about posts they will remove:

employ stereotypes, invoke harmful conspiracy theories, or target Jewish people as a whole rather than focusing on specific policies, actions, or the Government.

I agree with what they said, but why is the post on this thread about the Islamic world taking responsibility for Hamas still up? Why not say "target Jewish or Muslim people as a whole"? There are plenty of posts using Palestinian and Jihadi interchangeably. You can still see them as they haven't been deleted.

Hamas make their own rockets in Gaza.

"Necessity is the mother of invention," said Ali Baraka, a senior Hamas official, adding that the group had long drawn on money and training from Iran and Iranian regional proxies like Lebanon's Hezbollah, while bolstering its own forces in Gaza.

Difficulties in importing weapons meant that over the past nine years "we developed our capabilities and are able to manufacture locally", said Baraka, who is based in Lebanon....

In the 2008 Gaza war, Hamas rockets had a maximum range of 40 km (25 miles), but that had risen to 230 km by the 2021 conflict, he added."

Iran also supply Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad with various types of rockets. See the infographics attached. Included is shipment routes for M-302 rockets plus interception of shipment.

This. Calling it a Muslim / Jewish thing is a distraction. It is an Israel / Hamas thing. Really nothing to do with religion.

This. There are Christians in Gaza too. Yasser Arafat’s wife was one.

It absolutely is about religion and to pretend otherwise is disingenuous. Look at the attacks we have had in Europe over the past few days. The shootings in Belgium, stabbing in France, attack on the synagogue in Germany. All religiously motivated. The sad thing is these stories are so workaday to us now we barely register them

There is always a minority of extremists who find any excuse.

What was the excuse of the white man in the US who killed a child because he’s Muslim?

The dogma is that the religion is merely used as a cover because the central tenet of all religions is allegedly something like 'love your neighbour' and all wars are actually caused by a desire for power/wealth/land. I'm not optimistic that the average materialistic westerner is capable of getting beyond that.

Don’t forget the 6 year old Muslim boy who was stabbed to death in the USA by a man shouting ‘all Muslims must die’.

Don’t seem to hear much about that when these attacks are reeled off..

No, we call it a terror attack when the attacker clearly states they were inspired by a religion or God to commit their attack

Are you actually claiming that no white person has ever been convicted of a terrorist offence? Because we both know that's a lie now don't we?

Right, so because the white guy in the US didn’t declare a religious ideology, it’s not terrorism. Got it!

BorgQueen · 18/10/2023 12:09

Look at what military experts are saying about the footage from last night and the clear evidence in daylight.
If Israel had wanted to bring down a hospital, they would have done a much better job of it and NOT done it as Biden was due to visit.
There is barely any damage inside the hospital, 500 dead? Not a chance.
Bit of damage in the car park, no real crater.
Unlike the armchair experts on here my Husband IS an explosives / rockets/ bombs expert, (in the military and as a civilian) guess which version he believes?

Queucumber · 18/10/2023 12:10

Israel were immediately blamed for the horrific attack on the hospital yesterday. Someone told me (on a now deleted thread) that the hospital couldn’t have been destroyed by a misfired rocket from Gaza because of the giant crater left behind. There isn’t a giant crater. The pictures coming out now show there was much less structural damage and seem to support the failed rocket from Gaza theory.

People will believe what they want to believe and that will have real consequences.

Wow
The Christians are irrelevant
Spoken like a true pro Israeli

Bakensmile · 18/10/2023 12:10

I’m going to step away from this thread now (busy with baby didn’t expect so many responses).

I admittedly knew nothing about Israel/Palestine conflict before all of this. I have really tried to stay neutral and have some faith in the Israeli government but sadly that has dwindled and almost vanished.

Absolutely nothing can justify killing thousands of innocent civilians, it is not a justified ‘response’. Not now, not ever. I pray for peace.

They've been at it for 75 years at least with various other skirmishes for a couple of centuries before that. I don't have high hopes it will end any time soon.

Now we can add xenophobia to the mix.

Parkingt111 · 18/10/2023 12:13

@Pollyputhekettleon I'm not the one who just called the Christian population of Gaza Irrelevant

SomeCatFromJapan · 18/10/2023 12:14

@BorgQueen the other thing that puzzled me was how quickly they managed to count the dead and injured. I think Israel is still busy with forensics more than a week after the attacks, and that's presumably with far greater resources and not directly after a direct strike with all the confusion and difficulties of logistics that presumably entails.
