I don’t view Hamas as humans, they are pure evil.

However I am astonished at the atrocities Israel are committing and getting away with, I want to believe they are good and just defending themselves but it’s getting harder to do that. I have some questions if anyone could answer, I would be grateful. Before this gets deleted as that’s probably inevitable as mumsnet doesn’t like anyone questioning Israel.

Over 1,000 children have been killed since this all began. Why are Palestinian children’s lives not viewed as important as Israelis?

To the people who say Israel need to destroy Hamas. If Hamas had underground tunnels within Israel. Underneath Israeli homes, hospitals. Would you support the dropping of bombs and view the killing of innocent Israeli civilians as collateral damage and an unavoidable tragedy? Or do you think Israel, who has arguably the most efficient intelligence in the world, would find another way to obliterate them?

The UK and US wrongfully invaded Iraq killing thousands of civilians, some members of the army were raping women and in one case burnt a child alive. If at that time, Iraq had decided to bomb the UK killing thousands of civilians as a way to defend themselves, would you also support that?

The most recent tragedy last night at the hospital. Israel immediately took responsibility and were quite proud they had ‘killed terrorists’. They then deleted this tweet and backtracked saying it was Hamas, releasing audio between two members as ‘proof’.

How can they intercept phone calls between terrorists but failed to see the initial attack and massacre of innocent israelis coming? How is this considered as proof? The two people talking could be anyone.

Why would they claim responsibility if it was nothing to do with them?

What are the chances that a rocket misfires and just happens to land on a hospital that was supposed to be keeping hundreds of Palestinians safe?

I support Israel. Hamas has been shown by the BBC and many other outlets and experts to have sadly hit the hospital themselves.

Israel is one of the only democracies in that part of the world, a beacon of civilisation amongst some of the worst nations on the planet.

You know what, I really need to get this off my chest.

Under normal circumstances, I'm really not someone who is overly pro-Israel. I mean, I support Israel's existence as a predominantly Jewish state but I don't support all their actions. I've had numerous fallings out with my family about it. I support Israel but not settlements etc. I'm honestly a pretty lefty little Jew.

Do you know what changed this time around?
It was the brutal slaughter of 1400 Israelis, the kidnapping of 199, the maiming of several thousand. And on Facebook whenever a devastated family member of someone missing posted a photo of their loved ones asking for any news, the posts were, and still are, full of laughing emojis. The barbaric inhumanity of people all over the world laughing at the massacre and kidnapping of so many innocent people. It makes it feel like it's not just a war against Hamas. There's more to it. It's pro-Palestinians all over the world who are literally laughing at distressed families in mourning.

I really don't know how to express how I feel, I'm not particularly good with words. But this is the reason I'm supporting Israel more than ever before. I don't know what else to do. I'm so much more emotional than I would normally be. They're literally laughing about babies, children, the elderly being held hostage and what Hamas should do to them. The posts are not from Hamas members, they're from normal Palestinians and their supporters.

That's not to say that I support everything Israel is doing, I just want people to understand the emotion behind it all.

Talk about no longer having much faith in humanity 💔

While that behavior is not excusable, Israelis have shown the exact same behavior.

Curiously these rockets seem to do relatively superficial damage when they hit buildings in Israel. But the claim being made by the Israeli government is that a single such errant rocket leveled an entire hospital complex.

Israel Defense Force hasn't claimed the hospital in Gaza has been levelled at all. Saying that shows you've not been listening.

One weapons expert told BBC Verify that there doesn't appear to be a crater or wider damage consistent with an Israeli airstrike.

I think you're running away with your emotions and not thinking logically.

So many mistakes. Try actually checking for facts before you post.

@DownNative I think you're buying into propaganda designed to muddy the waters and deflect attention away from the war crimes that Israel is currently carrying out in Gaza.

I think to have an emotional response to genocide is human.

DownNative · 18/10/2023 21:34

Pollyputhekettleon · 18/10/2023 21:16

It's ok to admit you spread misinformation. It happens, although not to all of us at the same rate. Emoting even louder is not a defence though.

Yes, the Appeal To Emotion Fallacy is neither an argument or a defence of anyone's argument.

NATO StratCom COE report warned about this happening when Westerners started seeing pictures and videos, especially well before anything has been independently verified.

It's not surprising what's happening in these threads. The problem is the sheer volume of it has the potential to convince audiences reading these threads.

Bookshipper · 18/10/2023 21:35

Oh and since the conversation has come back round to hospitals!

Doctors Without Borders have made the following statement:

“Doctors in Gaza are now carrying out operations without anaesthetics.”

So there's that too, on top of the thousands massacred and even more injured in Gaza.

Bookshipper · 18/10/2023 21:37

And frankly, if I was trying to convince people I didn’t bomb something, I’d stop bombing other things while I made my case.

I think you completely misunderstand what the Appeal To Emotion actually means. See attachment.

One can spot what you're doing without compromising one's ability to empathise with others.

You're running out of logical arguments, so resort to logical fallacies, @Bookshipper. 🤔

Israel gives a warning for everyone to leave a hospital because they're going to bomb it. They then bomb it. They then say it was Palestinians bombing their own hospital. ...Who exactly still believes their garbage?

Israel isn’t a true democracy. Like most middle eastern countries it takes ethnicity / nationality and confers rights accordingly - it works like a Greek / Roman democracy where most residents don’t have any rights . Eg Palestinians have no rights. Arab Israelis have more rights. Druze / Jews have the most. This is enshrined in law.

Bookshipper · 18/10/2023 21:39

Channel 4 News is also now suggesting, based on their reporting, that the Israeli audio of the alleged Hamas guys talking about the attack “is a fake.” So many claims and counter-claims in this conflict.

They bombed a hospital then faked a phone call to blame it on the victims. Psychopaths.

People need to learn to control their emotions sufficiently to avoid spreading misinformation and then refusing to take responsibility for it. And stop spamming the thread.

Non-sequitur Fallacy.

Hitting one target doesn't necessarily mean you hit another disputed target.

Or you slapped Ann, but Vicky has accused you of slapping her too. Doesn't mean you slapped her because you slapped Ann.

Or the famous ice cream, summer and attacks example.

It simply doesn't follow.

Interesting what you choose to believe is fake and genuine, all led by knee jerking.

That's what I strongly assumed, waiting to see what is confirmed, but upon hearing it I thought there was a very good chance it would turn out not to be genuine!

Whatamidoinhere · 18/10/2023 21:41

@DownNative
Can you please educate me further on what justifies the following on Israel's, the biggest democracy in the middle east, actions?

-Use of prohibited White Phosphorus to bomb Gaza?

-The siege on Gaza for the past 16 years where they lived a life similar to prison life?

-The cut off of food, water, electricity, and fuel?

-Asking people in Gaza to evacuate their homes and leave towards the south then literally bombing whole families on the "safe routes" they've designated for them to take?

-Bombing the Egyptian border where Gaza can receive help?

-Preventing humanitarian aid to enter through Egypt? The trucks have been there for 5 days.

-The killing of over 1000 child?

Israel has never been held accountable for any war crime. Ever. And please let your reply be something else other than "do you not condemn what Hamas did?" Because I do not condone any killing of innocent people. I truly need an answer for my questions.

Bookshipper · 18/10/2023 21:41

And this isn't even the first hospital or health centre that Israel have bombed in the last week alone.

Non-sequitur as above and addressed before. You're also presenting it as a False Dilemma aka Either/Or scenario, so another logical fallacy.
