Hello ladies [waves]!

Hope everyone has had a good day. I spent half an hour queuing in the local post office as our work Franking Machine had broken. Unfortunately the heating in there was stuck on full blast and several customers had "personal hygene" issues - nice!

On an upside I've managed to earn some brownie points with MiL - we bought her one of those Hotel Chocolate Easter eggs and she called me to say how thrilled she is with it!

CaveMum · 24/03/2010 18:46

Oh, if anyone feels like buying themselves treating someone to a special Easter Egg, these are the Hotel Chocolate ones:

www.hotelchocolat.co.uk/cid/BWP21Z7PQXYFIJ10OST29KOPKXO5HYRN/Easter-Bunny-Egg-P300078/

They are amazing but expensive, we bought one for MiL and a smaller one for BiL (my family don't "do" Easter, long story) and got a free gift for ourselves!

claireinthecommunity · 24/03/2010 19:38

Hello all

Thankyou Zippy

Kkas, good to hear the last couple of days have been easier for you

Kurlyvoice, so sorry you are feeling so down, there's no need for you to apologize, and I don't think you are being selfish. This thread is for the ups and downs of TTC, and unfortunately at the moment you are in a down time. Many of us (including myself) have down times and completely understand the pressures that come with TTC. Please stay with us, we are all here to offer support - whatever the issue. Take care

Dinkytinky · 24/03/2010 20:40

Hi everyone! Aw kurly I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling so low. My sister works with children with problems too and I know she finds it very hard to relax and and be selfish for once too. I hope you do stick with us, us frolickers should be looking after each other. I really think you should goto another doctor to get the answers you need. I hope you don't think I'm being too nosey but are you eating properly: up to date with your smear tests? My periods stopped fir a while when I was 18, as I stopped eating enough after a stressful experience. Big cuddles to you xxxx
cavemum I love hotel chocolat-there a huge store in the arndale, which is very close to my house and I can often be spotted with my nose against their windows lol!
mrswajs how are you doing? Any news at all? Hope you're well, soo jealous about your hols!

Not much new with me, j haven't shaved my legs for a week due to af, longest I've gone since I was 15, very odd and prickly! It's my birthday tomorrow so I've booked the day off to sit in a bubble bath all day! Hope you're all ok xxx

haloflo · 24/03/2010 21:16

Hello - I echo this thread moving too fast. It makes good reading but tricky writing a message to all when catching up.

kkas really sorry to hear about your dog. 18 years is a really long time, thats a large part of your life, so I totally understand how upset you are. Glad you are feeling better today though.

luckyseven Action-filled April? At it at all hours April? Naming the month sounds like a fun way to think of TTC!

aly I also echo my admiration for your patience. I won't remind everyone that we all will have teenagers in the distant future as it might put us off!

Aries and Mrswajs I'm afraid i'm no hope with ovulation theories but hope that you both did this month & you won't need to worry.

dinky I'm impressed you shave your legs that often. If you wait 2 weeks the hairs go soft again! Enjoy your birthday! Make sure you are spoiled!

kurly rant away! You aren't being selfish, it must be hard when others seem to be moving through our cycles & conceiving. I hope you feel better soon and your AF comes ASAP.

cavemum That chocolate looks amazing. That's the sort of food which makes dieting impossible!

I'm now well into the SWI phase. DP is working tonight & friday night so i've told him to be up for it all other days until Monday! I took Monday off as a flexi day as its the last day of my fertile week & DP doesn't start work until 2. Slightly crazy baby lady behavour I know but I can't help smiling inside about what i've planned when i've told everyone at work i'll be relaxing with a lie in.

Amazon have failed to get me my ov sticks but i've decided I won't worry too much & won't be forking out £23.00 in boots. (I could get an amazing easter egg for that money!) Best not mind me of this relaxed attitude in 2 weeks when I'm over analying everything I did in my fertile week & trying to point if/when I ov'd!

mumnerves · 24/03/2010 21:27

kkas before TTC 1 SWI per week was a good month for me too. I got very insecure and started questioning him if he was cheating on me (I knew he wasn't but kind of wanted to shock him into feeling what I was) and then I started letting him know how unattractive I felt to him. It was really upsetting as I'd started blaming myself and would break down then ask him what I could do to change things. It was a really bad time for both of us! Then he got his varicoceles, I bought a blood pressure machine and he realised how high his bp was. Like a typical male, he kept moaning about it and I just stopped him everytime and said if you're not going to do anything about it stop moaning because I don't care anymore (I didn't and had had enough!)

We both decided around 6 months ago to TTC. He wanted to as he loves my little nephew and just I think wanted us to have children then.He was also overweight at this point. He slowly started doing little things to change, stopped drinking as much, lost quite a bit of weight, started doing a bit of exercise and started upping his fruit & veg to 5 a day. His BP also went down. I think the first 3 months or so of me not getting a BFP, seeing how upset I was when I didn't and realising that it could be his fault just hit home. I still don't have my BFP but end of last cycle I told him I didn't want to try anymore, had enough(I was serious at this point as was feeling really stressed) and he was really upset and talked me around to it. This cycle he has taken real initiative to initiate SWI every other day and even asked about my ovulation and was actually interested in FF! I think if I don't get a BFP this month I will just carry on trying without as much upset as the first few months as I now just feel it's out of my reach.

Sorry to ramble on about my situation, but basically you know your DH best, what do you think is causing the problem? Men aren't like women and don't talk about it the same way. Maybe let him take charge of SWI? My DH didn't get it quite right the first 3 months or so but be patient with him (he is after all a man! ) The first month, the only time he wanted to SWI was post ovulation Just think he also probably thought that minus condom equals baby and doesn't understand why you're still not pregnant. By all means if talking doesn't work out then ask him his TTC intentions. Maybe he doesn't feel ready for kids and that's what you need to chat about? As for counselling, if you're wondering how to broach the subject, then maybe you don't think he would go if you brought it up at this point? It's probably really important that you both want the counselling?
I really hope you both sort it out. Big ((((hugs)))) I know how lonely it can feel. I had no one in RL I felt I could talk this over with and this is actually the first time I've EVER told anyone about all this

Hermya so glad to hear you say it's a nice area I can't wait and if it rains, we've booked a lovely hotel so we can relax indoors anyway

Aries I was exactly like you 6 months ago too, wouldn't coo over a baby, and now, look at me! I feel so strange wanting a baby but I think our marriage just hit that point. Life is weird!

kurlyvoice Big hugs for you, please don't leave! Even if you lurk with us you're very very welcome here. Do vent, it's what we're all here for and you will get there eventually.
I think Dinky is right and that you should go and get a second opinion. Is there another GP at your practice you could go and see? I hope AF hits you soon (not something I ever thought I'd be saying on this thread )

Cavemum wow! Those eggs look SO tempting! I wonder if I left the website open if DH would take a hint??! Nah, I think I'd have to throw some at him before he realises what I want....mutter mutter

chalky3 · 24/03/2010 21:58

MrsWaj I got EWCM before AF this month too. Never noticed it before at that time of the month so stupidly got it in to my head that it must be a sign!

Hi Lovely Frolickers,

Just popped by to update the list and bring wine and Easter eggs to all who are feeling down or fancy a nibble. The hotel choclate looks YUMMY!!!!

Hope you're doing ok aly and kkas

and kurly- please stay xxxxxxx Maybe if you go back to the doctors and say it has been three months now and say how down it is making you they might do something? I know they said 6 months but if it is really getting you down then hopefully they will help you. I am sure that there is nothing wrong and that it is your body just taking a while to kick start it's self but I know that you just want to feel like you are doing something while you wait to begin ttc. I have been the same. Everyone on this thread is so supportive and it does help to vent.

cavemum and dinky your stories of the post office hygiene problems and pressing your nose up against the Hotel Chocolate made me chuckle! Also laughed at you going the longest without shaving your legs since you were 15! He he, I wax mine which means that they get nice and long in between waxes! lovely

haloflo am very impressed with your dedication to SWI in taking the morn off on Monday! You def deserve a BFP for that kind of behaviour I'll be glued to the post in two weeks willing you on!

mumnerves sorry you've been through a tough time over the past six months but it sounds like you and your dh are all sorted now and bless him for persuading you to carry on trying and taking an interest. I'm glad that you've been able to share on here- It must feel good to get it off your chest.

In news from me the pollution is gone thankfully! Well, of course it is still here as HK is such polluted place but the record breaking levels have dropped at least! It is the last day of term tomorrow so I'll be off on my Easter hols for two weeks. We have more visitors arriving tomorrow (two of dh's friends) and then my dear, dear friend and her dh arrive on Sunday until Thursday. Then Dh's parents arrive for two weeks on Easter Saturday! So we will be busy, busy with visitors Luckily we will have a chance to escape from smoggy HK when dh's parents are here as they are paying for us all to go away for 5 nights on holiday which is so lovely of them! Needless to say I may be a bit awol for a couple of weeks but I will lurk and post when I can. I hope I don't miss any BFPs... who is coming up to testing?!!

I do have a bit of other news which is exciting to me- af came this morning. It is my third cycle off the pill and my first below 40 days. It has been a 38 day cycle which is still longer than I would like and also longer than before I was on the pill but it is progress! Gives me hope that the agnus castus and EPO and herbal teas I have been drinking have worked and also restores my faith in FF who said I ovulated on day 19 but as af was taking its time to come I wasn't sure if I believed it! I have heard the agnus castus can take a couple of months to work so hopefully this cycle will be shorter and by June when I can get cracking I hope I'll be all regular again!

aly323 · 25/03/2010 05:39

Darn it! I typed and posted, or so I thought, and now it's nowhere to be found. Now, I'm too exhausted to write it all again.

Kurly, I absolutely second Felicity's idea of returning to the doctor. Three months seems like too long to me. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

Kkas, congratulations on the car. I've never had a new car and am a little bit .

Halo thanks for the leg shaving advice! and Cavemum thanks for the tip on the eggs! Once again, I love this thread!

Thanks again to everyone for the support after my vent. The girls are actually doing better. I think I might be figuring some of this stuff out. Turns out, they really like to shop and look at boys. Unfortunately, now two of them are not talking to each other. Oh the drama! Please, please let me have a boy!!! (I took them all to see an improv show tonight and am proud to say they all experienced something new AND enjoyed it)

The puppy is still wrecking havoc, but may be meeting his new family Friday (same day the girls go home). I'll miss his cute and cuddliness, but will be thankful for some peace. It should be a nice quiet weekend. Fingers crossed for puppy.

No news on the ttc front. Now, I'm not sure if I'm due for af Thur or Fri, so I'm constantly hiding in bathrooms checking for spotting and looking at FF counting days. So far, I still have no symptoms. Anyone else getting any? We need a few more BFP's here asap!

aly323 · 25/03/2010 05:42

Oh, and congrats to Felicity on the shorter cycle. Please lurk while you're guests are around. Also, et me know when you're coming to LA. I'll give you all my insider tips!

MrsWajs · 25/03/2010 08:38

Aries Spoke to my Dr yesterday as I was freaking about anovulation (totally unfounded) and she seemed to think that I was ovulating just fine, cycles are usually 30 - 32 days with a random 27 in there for good measure (and now obviously a mammoth 37!!!!!) Am a smidgen younger than you (27) but guess the same rule pretty much applies, despite age?? Dunno if that's any help whatsoever!?!?!

Lucky I think I may just have been over-reacting a tad, didn't actually ask the doctor about the opk's as think she thought I was crazy enough as it was!! But my brand spanking new thermometer is winging it's way to me as we speak so will try that next cycle - whenever that might begin! Decided against wow'ing the Dr with my one, solitary chart because a) it is really rather pointless since I didn't actually pinpoint ovulation and just kinda hazarded a guess at where it was (and was obviously wrong!) and b) I used to work with her and possible may have to again in the future so don't really want her thinking I'm some kind of obsessive head case, hell-bent on getting myself up the stick.....even though that's exactly what I am!!
Actually I just re-read that and it sounds like I went in to my appointment and said nothing at all!! I did say 'I'm trying for a baby and my period is late but my tests are negative' that was really about it!! Got the usual speil about trying for a year..blah, and most people fall pregnant within that time...blah, blah..blah..blah!
So what is this day21 test thing?? Oh and how about "At it like rabbits April" (easter bunny reference in there to boot )
kurly Sorry you're having a crappy time but as everyone else has already said, that's what we're here for, god knows I've done my fair share of selfishness this last week or so! It can't be helped and the best wy to gt it all off your chest is to have a good old bloody rant about it
cavemum I am love, love, loving you easter eggs ...mmmmmmmm. Might have to buy myself my mum one for easter!!
Dinky Not much to report, no AF and no BFP, I'm baffled but am now holding the troll responsible for stressing me out and causing AWOL AF!! Precisely 11 weeks today and I'll be hitting the airport
Haloflo Good luck with babby-making Fingers crossed for you
Chalky Me either, however I now think mine was actual ovulation since I still don't have AF but I have never noticed it like that at any time before! Surely I'm blind??

And hellooo to everyone else!! Sorry not had a chance to ask after eveyone, trying to catch up with thread after nightshift is nigh on impossible and my eyes are tired!!

Catch you all in the afternoon perhaps . . . night night x

Ariesgirl · 25/03/2010 08:46

"A smidgeon"? Oh bless you MrsW!

kkas · 25/03/2010 09:54

mumnerves thank you for your frank and honest post. must feel good to finally be able to share your story. it's so nice to hear that you and your DH have been able to work through a lot of your issues and what a sweetie for convincing you to keep TTC! he def sounds like a keeper .

am not too sure whether my DH has high BP, but he is not overweight. probs drinks a bit too much (likes his wine and cheese in the evening!) and i'm sure he could probably eat more fruit/veg. but again, don't want to start nagging him about that as may only add to the pressure. i have promised myself to stop putting so much pressure on him and trying to keep from being sad as each cycle rolls on. think i need to find something else to distract myself and have just decided to look into taking cello lessons. i have played piano since i was 4 so have always been quite musical, but have always fancied the cello - so maybe having a distraction will help me get through the cycles and will also let me start enjoying the life i have rather than wishing it away for something else.

thanks for all the kind words of support this week guys. you are all the best!

maamalady · 25/03/2010 12:52

Update from me - bloody doctors appointment system! They wouldn't let me make an appointment for today yesterday, no appointments today until the middle of the day (hardly useful if you work) - but then they let me make an appointment for next Tuesday?!?! How strange! So, Tuesday morning I am off to the docs to find out if a 55 day (so far) cycle is normal. DH thinks this cycle will be 56 days because that would be twice the length of a normal cycle...

Love the Easter eggs! I want to go to Hotel Chocolat now!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 25/03/2010 14:08

No evilgiraffe a 55 day cycle is certainly not normal and is more likely than not to be an anovulatory one.

A "normal" cycle is a cycle day of between 21 and 35 days OR with less than 4 days of variation from month to month.

You should have blood tests done to see what your hormone levels are like; a common cause of such problems (and these are usually hormonal in nature) is a condition called polycystic ovaries. This can cause irregularity or non existant periods and can delay or stop ovulation from happening.

If periods are irregular/non existant the blood tests can be done according to calendar days i.e the 2nd and 21st of each month.

You will need to be persistant in order to get answers and I would also be asking for a referral to a gynae at a subfertility unit.

maamalady · 25/03/2010 18:16

Is it not likely that it's strange due to coming off the pill, though? They were always very regular before I started the pill, but that was almost ten years ago now

AttilaTheMeerkat · 25/03/2010 18:57

No, pill leaves system quickly after taking the last tablet.

aly323 · 25/03/2010 19:49

From what I have been told (by my doctor), although the pill leaves your system right away, it can take awhile for your hormones to return to normal since your body has been altered for so long. Also, the pill can cause other issues (like B6 deficiencies) that may take a while to resolve.

I was on the pill for 12 years and an implant for 5 years before that. I've been off the pill for 10 months now, and still see changes every month. However, my cycle length did go back to normal right away. I had a 50 day cycle once. It happened because I had some very heavy stress right when I was due to ovulate. It pushed my ovulation way back. That's the longest I've had.

I freaked out when my cycle was 50 days and got my doctor to do FSH, LH, Thyroid and Estradiol testing. All was fine, but I was really glad I had the testing done. The doctor wasn't as concerned as I was, but didn't blow me off either. Good luck evilgiraffe!

papertiger · 25/03/2010 22:37

Hi all, really helpful to read the last few posts although a tad worrying too! Been wondering the same things after my 40 day cycle, shortest has been 25 days I think since coming off the pill so a bit all over the place.
I made a doctors appt for end of the day tomorrow only I am in work and there is a possibility I might get stuck and won't be able to get out in time to get to the appt but I will try my best! I will see what the doctor has to say about hormone tests etc and let you know evilgiraffe.
Can you have PCOS but not have acne and excess hair? Luckily I don't seem to have those problems!
Preparing myself for the same 'most couples fall pregnant in a year' speil...

bunnygirl80 · 25/03/2010 22:52

Hello ladies

Just keeping an eye on what you're all up to - you'll have this thread full in no time.

kkas I really hope you and your DH manage to work through the stage fright issues. If you feel it is going to affect your relationship on a non-TTC level, then maybe it is worth suggesting counselling to him.

aly I would imagine your doctor was right about it taking a while for hormones to rebalance after coming off the pill. I'm pretty sure that was explained to me when I went on it, although when I was 18 I really didn't think much about it.

cavemum I haven't ventured to your link for the Easter eggs - I am officially off chocolate. The thought of anything that sweet makes me feel sick

I have updated the future grads list over on the other thread as there are lots of new people here now and we didn't want anyone to feel left out

Nothing exciting to report from me - still have mega sore boobs and I'm starting to feel a bit sick at times. I seem to be ok eating my own food, but the smell of anyone aelse's makes me feel very queasy. I have a feeling it's only going to be a matter of days before I start being sick

aly323 · 26/03/2010 01:04

Bunny, I remember reading the warnings about "women smokers over 35" when I first went on the pill and thinking that was so frickin old and wondering why someone that old would bother being on the pill. It's amazing how young I was and how different my perspective was. I'm really realizing how young 18 is now that I have the girls here. They're babies but think they're so grown up. Once again, God bless all mothers of teenaged girls.

Kkas I went to the doctor today and was given a magazine about conceiving that included an article about "stage fright" there really wasn't anything new or useful in it, but it went on and on about how common it is. As I've said before, we've been there, too. Somehow, we just managed to talk our way through it.

The Dr's appt went very well. Assuming DH's SA and my dye test go well, we're in really good shape. My levels are surprisingly good for my age, but they'll probably give me meds to strengthen my ovulation and move up my ovulation. It's pretty much what I figured. Unfortunately, we're still waiting for DH's insurance to start, so now we're just biding time. I think I might try soy isoflavones next month while we're waiting
to see if they might help out.

Right now, waiting on af. FF suggests I test tomorrow if she hasn't shown. I jumped the gun and tried this morning (just in case ) but got the expected bfn. Generally I start spotting the night before, so we'll see. Maybe my lp is just starting to get a little longer on its own. Who knows.

I'm off to pick up the teens. It's their (and hopefully puppy's) last night in the house. If af comes, I'm going to drink myself a bottle or two of wine tomorrow night in celebration of my peace and quiet!!!

Morning all, still on iPhone so am reading all posts but won't be doing individual replies, enjoying the chocolate eggs though

I'm in the 2ww but not hopeful as only 2 swi's, days 9 and 14. Haven't been getting busy because I'm too busy ha ha!

Keeping cheerful is getting to be a problem though. I'm 38, he is 42 and I'm beginning to think I'm never getting pg. If another person tells me to relax about it and it'll just happen I think I'm going to be very rude to them. One person at work said 'oh just forget about it and that's when it'll happen' and I said how long did you take, she said one month

Easter eggs to you all xx

hi bunny and aly thanks for your support. i'll just keep being supportive of DH and enjoying when we do manage to have sex. can't keep wishing my life away.... hopefully trying to distract myself with new hobbies and work will make the time go by and if i'm still not pg by august (which will be the year mark) then we'll re-evaluate the counselling as well as going for the normal tests, etc. in the meantime i think it's more important to focus on our relationship than the sex.

aly glad to hear appt went well but sorry about the BFN. probs too early though. let us know if you test again this weekend.

bunny thanks for updating the future grads list. i keep up with you guys everyday and it does keep me motivated to try to graduate!

Hello Bunny. Thanks for updating and keeping us up to date with what's going on with you. I'm feeling a bit guilty for never dealing with the list, but if I'm honest, I wouldn't have a clue where to start!
Like Calyx, I'm on the 2WW. It's well boring isn't it?! No symptoms to go mental over apart from slightly sore boobs, which is a bit early for me. But after last month's stupidness I'm not going to look for anything. ANYTHING you hear me!
I may have mentioned before that DH and I own and run a seasonal business in the tourist sector. Tomorrow our season officially begins, at the weekends at least. Come May I'm going to be haring around like a blue-arsed fly hopefully, though obviously if a Happy Event occurs, I'll take things a bit easier. So here's to a gorgeous summer full of lovely warm weather, lots of tourists and lots of BFP. Ching!
