Ok fellow ditherers, as we have filled up one thread (and still not made too many firm decisions) here's another one for us to continue to procrastinate and worry on.

Here's to more monitoring of relative green and redness, mutual support and occassional chivving, discussion of everything baby or not baby related, and perhaps even our first BFP...?

OK I clearly don't have the hang of emphasis... or not double posting.

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:03

Mine is quite good with checking his but thank you - a very good point well made!

Has your DH recovered then? It's relatively easy to treat if caught early isn't it?

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:04

Just asked him and he said he checks them every day!

FancyALittle · 17/05/2010 22:15

confuseddoiordonti Goood!

It's difficult. He was diagnosed in January, and three days later had his testicle removed. He'd only had pain for 3 weeks and the biopsy showed there was no testicle left - it was all cancer. He was 'lucky' to have the fast-growing, painful type. Most are not painful. A lot of people don't realise until it's very progressed (e.g. coughing up blood so it's in the lungs). He himself is a doctor so was very very fast in getting it checked, God knows what would have happened if he'd delayed. As it is, we look back at the winter and him catching EVERY SINGLE cold and me not being affected at all. We feel like we should have noticed sooner. But it was his first winter working in a hospital, it seemed normal to catch all the bugs.

They think the surgery was curative in itself. But because it was the kind that grows from stem cells, there could be a microscopic cell somewhere and stem cells love to grow. He's having intensive and vigorous checks for the next two years. It's a fine line between checking with radiation that can cause further cancer, and checking to make sure nothing has spread and is growing.

Because we had no time to think before the tumour was removed (because that was priority) we banked sperm at the first chance. If it happened again, we'd have no chance at children. He has not had to have chemotherapy, but we're living monthly check up to check up in anticipation. He has an excellent prognosis - over 98% that he will be fine. But it changes your priorities, and our lives will never be the same.

HoneyPetal · 17/05/2010 22:18

Well, DH is currently watching something on Discovery Engineering Of Massive Things (so much for talking!) so am back for a quickie before bed!

So do you mean being an at-home child lookerer afterer, then C? Sorry, my mind has gone blank for the right term. As opposed to a nursery nurse girl, cos I think they don't earn very much. Child minder, is that it?? What courses do you have to do

I do remind DH to check his testicles. I will check the last time he did it. If he can be arsed to turn the telly off.

AmandaCooper · 17/05/2010 22:25

HP does your DH not go on the internet himself?

Fancyalittle that's a horrible thing to have had to go through. Your wedding must have been ever so poignant. Did everyone weep buckets? I'm glad to hear it's been more positive news for you both recently.

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:26

Yes, a looker afterer HP rather than a nursery nurse style get paid bugger all type. There appears to be plenty of work as long as you are 'qualified' (this can vary hugely to what it means) and I have been wondering about, firstly, doing a course perhaps along the lines of this but obviously I need to properly research it (and only just started to look today.)

FancyALittle it sounds horrendous! Thank god for the small mercies of it being the painful kind and also of him being a doc. I am glad to hear you managed to get some sperm banking in first. Am I right in thinking this is precautionary as you may be able to get pregnant naturally?

HoneyPetal · 17/05/2010 22:29

All the f**king time. He is t'internet geek. But he doesn't know I post on here, longmayitcontinue, so I don't want to look too interested in staying online.

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:32

This is Mr HP on Dadsnet...

'better go lads, Mrs HP is bothering me and the last thing I need her to know is that I'm on here discussing breast pumps and the best baby slings. She thinks I'm watching telly and on Facebook instead...'

AmandaCooper · 17/05/2010 22:32

DH knows full well I post on here but has absolutely no interest in it whatsoever. I know for a fact he hasn't been through my posts. Must be part of his massive baby aversion!

AmandaCooper · 17/05/2010 22:33

Lol @ confused

HoneyPetal · 17/05/2010 22:34

Interesting. Will have a read tomorrow. You should go for it, C, you really should.

Right, off to bed. Night all.

HoneyPetal · 17/05/2010 22:35

Ha ha haa haa!! That's made me smile....imagine if it were true!!!!! X

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:36

Mine knows I am on here too as told him when drunk (ooops) but thankfully he has shown no interest. I think he thinks it's a bit weird really. I told him LST's news today and he looked non-plussed - I think he can't get his head around the idea of being 'friends' with someone who you don't actually know in real life.

Suppose he has a point, now I think about it!

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:38

Have to do loads of research first as there appear to be 100's of courses out there and need to find one that would lead to more advanced and interesting stuff as well as being useful in itself.

Night!

lizardqueenie · 17/05/2010 22:38

Wow I look away for 2 mins (actually I went to reply then mother called!)

Welcome along fancy, so sorry to hear what your DH and you have had to go through recently and mighty pleased you have had good news since. Thanks for the news flash, will actually ask my DH now... he is stomping up the stairs...ok he needs to get checking a bit more.

HP & Confused v interested in the lookerafter course. In case its gone unnoticed i effing hate work at the moment and am not really that thrilled about the prospect of returning after the bean (apparently now the size of a naval orange - whatever that is) is born.

HP love the way that you write, love the thing about checking your teeth & puffing up the cushions!

AmandaCooper · 17/05/2010 22:39

DH and I were on another forum for years - in fact two of my friends from the forum whom I'd never met in RL came to our wedding with their babies.

lizardqueenie · 17/05/2010 22:44

AC thats lovely, really sweet

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:46

Glad to know I am not that weird then!

I do feel like you lot are my friends, even if I don't all know your names in real life (although I think I can hazard a guess at AmandaCoopers...)

LQ have a look into it! I am now perusing Montessori courses here but think I might go for the softer options and maybe build up to something that requires far more commitment (but who knows as I am, after all, not good when it comes to the ol' decision making!)

AmandaCooper · 17/05/2010 22:53

Ha ha no that's not my name in RL!

confuseddoiordonti · 17/05/2010 22:54

Ah! Thats buggered that theory then!

Why have you chosen such a namey-name?

lizardqueenie · 17/05/2010 22:55

I am not that fab with links so here's hoping but there is this too www.ncma.org.uk/

Know what you mean about the decision making...I have been finally tipped over the edge today by something fairly minor as oppose to having nearly 2 months off with stress.

So the montessori courses (and i will of course check out your lovely link, are they to work in a Montessori nursery?

Ps - check me out its nearly 11pm and I am still awake!

AmandaCooper · 17/05/2010 22:58

It's always been my Internet name, Amanda Cooper and I go back years! It was one of the girls from the other forum who got me on MN.

We're almost out of thread here, ladies!
