Evenin' all,

Hope everyone made the most of Shrove Tuesday to overindulge in pancakes... I did consider giving up chocolate for Lent (as it is most definitely a sacrifice for me!) but decided that, once AF finally does arrive, and then becomes an unwelcome visitor, chocolate will be my only consolation.

bellaby, EWCM stands for Egg White Cervical Mucas, which is what you get at your most fertile time, usually a couple of days before you ovulate and on the day that you ovulate. It's a primary sign of ovulation and also helps his swimmers get to your little egg!

pidgin, I LOL at the life-energy-filtering. ariesgirl, I'm like you and have been worrying about what to do that will help me conceive but in general am just making sure I get my 5-a-day, my vitamins, and, probably most importantly for me, not get too stressed about work! I don't really drink so it's not strange for me not to be imbibing when my friends do.

Lovely to see you hermya and agree with everyone else on the whole doctor-comment-front. Bubble-bursting is a bit of a cruel sport...

pidgin, spermies can survive for 48 hours quite happily - especially the x-chromosome ones apparently - so don't feel bad or worry or anything. As for claire, here's to the 2ww, and fudgecat, here's to more exciting symptoms!

And, finally from me before DH discovers my simultaneous posting and reading-of-fertility-friend-email, I had to text him to hide my sanatogen vitamins as my mum came back with me from a shopping trip for an unplanned dinner and I'm not quite sure whether she will approve of us TTC when I am still "young"! So I'm with you on that front, bunnygirl.

Kaloki · 17/02/2010 21:57

bellaby It's egg white cervical mucus. Mainly because it looks like egg white in consistency etc.

Ok ladies.. here is my list of symptoms, reassure me I'm not being silly. Desperately trying to stay calm and not get overexcited, but;

  • breasts have grown and are tender
  • areolas got darker
  • burst blood vessels on one breast
  • cramps
Ariesgirl · 17/02/2010 22:35

Burst blood vessels?! Cripes! What a lot of things to look forward to...

bunnygirl80 · 17/02/2010 22:39

I can't believe that none of you filter your bath water - personally I only ever bathe in Evian that has been naturally heated by the sun...that's why we had to move to a warm climate as it was taking too long to heat it in the UK

Actually out water is solar heated, but most definitely is not filtered before bathing!

Pidgin I've also read and ignored some of Zita West's advice. Who knew that using tampons blocked energy flow??! I'm sure if that was the case the human race would die out if everyone who had ever used a tampon was left unable to get pg. I do sometimes threaten DH with some of her NOTHING fun for either partner advice to make my requests for less booze drinking seem more reasonable.

Aries in honour of TTC I have done the following:

  1. take folic acid - this is probably the only thing I'm religious about as I have a close friend who only took it after her BFP and her daughter was born with spina bifida. It's only a mild form but she will always have problems walking and has had to have 2 major operations before she's even turned 1
  2. cut down on booze - I try and only drink as much as I think I would still be able to drive after. So 1 glass of wine in a pub or 2 or 3 small ones at home (I put a tiny bit in a glass so it feels like I've had loads but really still only one or two units)
  3. try and eat sensibly and exercise
  4. limit my caffiene intake - I've only ever drunk 2-3 cups of coffee a day, but I try and keep to a maximum of 2 at the moment

bellaby I don't know how much of a difference laptops make, but DH's are supposed to keep their little swimmers cooler than the rest of their body, so loose boxers rather than tight pants, no really hot baths, and avoiding laptops. My DH works in IT an if he works from home he will be using his laptop on his lap for several hours rather than a couple of minutes so lots of opportunity for overheating things.

aly sorry AF got you. Hope cycle 7s lucky for you.

kaloki when are you planning on testing? Those symptoms sound good

fudgecat only test when you're ready. I'm definitely a member of the wait until AF is late brigade - I prefer to find out by her arrival than seeing a BFN. Or even worse getting a very short lived BFP.

kurly I didn't get any pancakes as my special frying pan is still on it's way to Oz. Pancakes are one of the few things I'm really great at cooking so didn't want to make substandard ones due to dodgy equipment We're going to pig out on them in a couple of weeks when our stuff arrives

hermya sorry your doctor wasn't more enthusiastic. I suppose that while a BFP only happens to us a few times in a lifetime, doctors see a few everyday so they forget what a special moment it is. Or maybe your doctor's just miserable

This is starting to look like a looong post from me. I'd better go and clean up before MIL get's here - don't want her thinking her son is forced to live in a hovel

Just been stalking looking at the grads thread, and sadly sparkly has had a mc

I've removed her from the grads on here, hopefully she'll come back and join us when she's ready.

I've updated the list for Thursday as well - I know it's a bit early but it saves doing it later on.

I'm due around about next Wednesday, but as my period has been as late as 36 days I'm going to wait till then. So.. at least the 4th of May till I test. Looong wait! But I agree with you bunnygirl I'd rather see AF than a BFN, or a BFP that ceases to be a BFP. I've already had one of those.

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 17/02/2010 23:17

Evening all,

Just taking a quick break from seed harvesting to catch up with you all.

Thank you for your kind words re our BDing failure. Calx it was some comfort to hear that it happens to others as well.

Kaloki symptoms sound promising. In view of recent disappointments, I am going to try and be sensible and cautious and not exhort you to test early. But I think there is enough there to start getting mildly optimistic.

hermya sorry your doctor was a bit underwhelmed. I suppose it is all run of the mill stuff to them, but they could at least demonstrate mild interest. Afterall, they should appreciate that its a hell of a big deal to you.

Pidgin I take selectively from Zita West. I was a bit when I read the bunkum about tampons interfering with the flow of your life energy.

Like many of us, my concessions to TTC are taking folic acid / vitamin supplements, drinking less, aiming for 5+ a day and doing a bit of exercise. All of which should do me some good, TTC or no.

Although, the longer I go on without success, the more I start thinking if I should listen to Zita and her ilk? Or maybe I should just pop down ariesgirl's way and crawl through that stone with a hole in it seven times?

Bunny your eveian bath made me chuckle. One of the best reasons for emigrating I've heard!

aly sorry AF got you. Hopefully cycle 7 will be lucky for you.

Good luck to all of you on the 2ww. Fudgecat, I think to are very sensible to defer testing till AF is late. I think the difference between a miscarriage and a CP is that a MC is where a fertilised egg that had implanted and started developing is lost, where as a CP is where the egg is fertilised (hence hormones register a BFP but didn't implant. Your previous BFPs sound more like a CP, but you are right, probably best not to test until you know for sure that AF is late.

claireinthecommunity · 17/02/2010 23:26

A flying visit from me - such sad news re Sparkly

Hermya321 · 18/02/2010 00:22

Hello all!!!

Bellaby Abandon you all? Now why would I do that? This thread is lovely and to be honest I'd like to stick around, I've gotten to know so many people on here. It seems a shame to just suddenly defect.

Yorkshire Yeah I know, I was thinking about it earlier as she gave me a sheet to look at. She was supposed to examine me and she didn't. I'm a little bit now. I hope they don't just leave me out in a field with a rope and a bucket when it comes to LO making it's entry into the world.

Kaloki I'm with you on that one, I hope it is a lucky month for you. I'll be keeping a sneaky eye on you.

Aly Sorry AF got you.

Pidgin So we'll cheer those little swimmers on, say a prayer that they strike gold and cross our fingers and toes for you.

Ariesgirl You mean you don't wash your hair in a holy well at noon on the equinox of the solar eclipse. Darling that is the only way to go about TTC. If you're not running around a field in the middle of the sticks starkers howling at the moon and then dancing round a fire covering yourself with the dust of the earth. Then I'm afraid, you're not doing it properly. These things do need some degree of attention . Although you could go and have sex on the penis of that giant dude thats been drawn on the side of some hill. That seemed to have worked for others. But, maybe try the stone first. How on earth would you filter your bath water though??

Fudge I'm on the edge of my seat here! But I won't chant, I won't......but don't leave me here too long.

Ladies, can you please drink some wine for me, I feel like I'm hurting it's feelings now I'm not drinking it.

chalky3 · 18/02/2010 09:20

Congratulations Hermya321, I'll have a glass of wine to celebrate for you, though not this early!

Welcome to all the newbies! More people to join the crazybabyladies!

We're on (hopefully) lucky cycle 7. I'm beginning to think that it might be stress that's standing in our way of success. DH was made redundant in November. He did get another temporary job over Christmas and New Year but that ended a few weeks ago. He's off at yet another interview just now so fingers crossed! My work is VERY stressful just now. Loads of pressure being put on us by management, attempts being made to cut staff numbers and lots of disorganised training taking place on a very tight timescale. Probably similar to a lot of other people just now but it doesn't make for a happy, relaxed baby making environment. I've suggested to DH that we should have regular massage sessions with eachother, that might do the trick!

chalky3 · 18/02/2010 09:26

Just saw your post about sparkly, bunny, that's sad news .

Ariesgirl · 18/02/2010 11:44

Well not yet Hermya, but I'm game for anything, me.

I do know I'm starting to walk like John Wayne after this week's activity

maamalady · 18/02/2010 13:14

No news from me, just quietly DTD every other day or so and keeping fingers crossed! AF due next Friday ish if this cycle is oh-so-average like the last one was.

Kaloki - not testing until May? Did you really mean that?!

Oh, and yes laptops are supposed to lower a mans fertility by keeping the "environment" too warm. DH uses his laptop quite often, so I frequently push it away from him a bit so it's resting more on his knees! I don't think he uses it enough to be a real issue though. If it takes us ages to get a BFP I'll make him sit at the table, but at the minute it doesn't seem worth it as we've only been trying since New Year.

Kaloki · 18/02/2010 13:22

lol, oops, I meant March! I'm not that patient!

fudgecat · 18/02/2010 15:07

So sad to hear sparklys news

yorkshire thanks for that info on CM\early MC

hermya don?t worry, if you do end up in a field just give me a shout, I have read all the James Herriot books

aries and evilgiraffe keep up the good work

Anyway its CD 30 for me today (the stats have me one day further on for some reason) I have been having some strong cramps today that makes me think that AF is about to show up

Hermya321 · 18/02/2010 19:05

Fudge I'll keep you on standby just in case, I'll start looking on ebay for suitable buckets.

Aries LOL!! I imagine the girls at work are giving you 'what have you been doing looks?'

chalky I'm so sorry to hear about your Dh, my DH has been in and out of temp jobs since last year. But I think he's used to it now. He still wants a permenant job and is always on the lookout. Massage may just do the trick for you guys. I'd say crack on with it!

Ariesgirl · 18/02/2010 19:31

An FFG we used to call it. A freshly-fill in the blank-glow

chalky3 · 18/02/2010 23:33

I spoke too soon. DH's interview went well today, he got the job!! It's permanent too. That's one of us a bit less stressed, let's hope it's catching!

Aries, just think of all the calories you've been burning off this week with all that BDing!

Fudgecat, we are watching you!

Chalky congrats on your DH's job. Maybe the combination of less stress and lucky cycle 7 will work for you.

Aries lol at walking like John Wayne. I know how you feel though.

Not much to report from me - am pretending to have an afternoon nap so I can come on MN without MIL seeing. I am thinking this may be a sign of an MN addiction as I really should be able to cope without coming on for a couple of days

OP posts:
Pidgin · 19/02/2010 08:25

thanks for doing the stats bunny - how is the MIL's trip going?

and congrats on your DH's job chalky, that's great news. Meant to say, your name always reminds me of Rick Stein's dog on his tv series, do you know the one I mean? (it's a very nice little dog!)

I'm trying to forget about how many DPO I am for the next few days - easier said than done. I'm expecting a longer than normal cycle this month as I ov'd late - the waiting stage is definitely the hardest, isn't it?!

capricorn76 · 19/02/2010 11:21

Hi guys,

I know I've been missing for ages but thought I'd pop back in to say hello.

Congrats Hermya on your BFP!

Well done Chalky on your DH's job. It will be so much easier for you to relax with less financial worries.

My period is due in 2 days and although I know AF will come right on time as usual I don't care as I'm fully psyched up for my first IUI appointment next week. I've been exercising, upping my acupuncture appointments etc and I'm nervous but excited. I know that it may not work first time but it will give me a better chance than I have now what with only having one tube and a lower than average egg reserve.

Ariesgirl · 19/02/2010 12:24

Congrats on the job Chalky. That will hopefully make things feel nice and secure.

I have had enough! That's it for a couple of weeks.

Here's another question girls. I haven't quite got the hang of this temp taking yet - tbh I'm not keen on it, you know, waking up at the same time each day, having to work in fahrenheit not celsius (I'm a child of the metric system, me), and also the few times I've done it they seem to be up and down like a yo yo. But at the same time, this month I had a definite sharp twinge round ov and textbook EWCM. Would those two on their own be a definite sign of OV? This is the first month I've been aware of such symptoms but I wasn't looking before was I? Seeing as I'm too much of a FW to cope with the temperature taking?
