thanks for the good luck wishes claire and hermya. they must have done the trick although still in PSF stage as i won't ovulate until next weekend at least. which is perfect as we are off on a bonkathon holiday for a week from friday in marrakech not sure if my suitcase is big enough to fit all the sexy undies/nighties i am taking. let's just say that if this doesn't work, i don't know what will!

yorkshire so funny about harvesting the seed! i totally feel that same way too. if only it was that easy!!!

aly i am keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!

hi to everyone else. hope you had nice v-days. we went to see v-day the movie with the gorgeous taylor lautner go team jacob! unfortunately he did not remove his shirt, but there was a funny joke where he said "i'm self conscious about taking my shirt off in public..." i was rofl but DH didn't seem to get it.... he also didn't appreciate when i said that i wish he had taken it off! oh well, he'll live

WhiteRoses · 15/02/2010 13:59

Aww, Calyx - sorry to hear DH was being a bit of a prat yesterday. But glad to hear that you reconciled in time!

Aww, Bunny - reading your desciption of your nephew would make me broody, never mind actually seeing him smile at you! No wonder you felt that way!

Yorkshire - poor you, with DH falling asleep like that! Maybe HE'S pregnant! Tiredness was my first symptom! God, I don't think my DH could cope with pregnancy. He can't even cope with a cold! Lol! Just as well it's us women that do it.

Lol, Kkas at your DH's reaction to shirt-taking-off comment!

Our Valentine's was pretty low-key. Long lie and then slobbing about in pj's feeling sick for most of the day. DH and I then went to a Chinese buffet for dinner. I couldn't stomach the thought of reading a menu, making a choice, sitting and watching other people's food and smelling it, while waiting for mine to arrive. So that was ideal. In and ate, with as little thinking as possible.

Anyway, hopefully that was our last romantic Valentine's Day for many years, and that next year, we'll all be sleep-deprived and up to our elbows in dirty nappies!

claireinthecommunity · 15/02/2010 15:02

Pleased to hear the undies did the trick kkas Lol at your suitcase, I have visions of you getting stopped at customs and having to explain a suitcase full of frilly underwear Oh and Marrakech - I'm not at all...

Yorkshire at your DH falling asleep on you, but, good to hear you managed to harvest the necessary over the weekend!

WhiteRoses, your Chinese buffet sounds great, lol at your prediction for future Valentines days - you are certainly going into parenthood with your eyes wide open.

Pidgin, no advice about the B6 or Agnus Castus I'm affraid, but I do know that people can OV at different times each cycle - not straight forward is it?!

Dh and I don't really do Valentines Day, but I did get a great V day present - EWCM needless to say we had a good day and night

Welcome to all the newbies and everyone else

Kaloki · 15/02/2010 15:52

Haha, excellent V day present Claire!!

haloflo · 15/02/2010 17:16

Hello! I came across MN when researching some time ago & stubbled across this thread. I've been lurking ever since but as AF got me again today I've decided to join. It seems to be very lucky thread I hope some of the luck rubs off on me. (Greedy I know!)

I came off the pill in December & have been TTC since then. All my GP said was stop taking your pill, take folic acid and don't concieve in the first month as it makes it hard to predict your due date. This statement combined with family planning lessons at school made me think it was going to happen instantly!

My DP and I are trying to take the relaxed approach but this might be changing! When I knew last night that AF was coming & it was game over for this cycle we decided to step it up from now on!

hermya I loved hearing about your symptom spotting and although i'm new wanted to congratulate you too!

Bellaby and others who asked about coming off the pill. I think I might be the exception to the rule here but I seem to be as regular as when I was on the pill (I don't remember before the pill as I was 16 when I first started to take it) I was on Microgon 30.

For my entire first cycle I was convinced I was pg and had all sorts of symptoms but I think it was just my body returning to normal.

I know i'm probably really silly thinking this and I know lots of people would love a regular cycle but does anything think there is a chance the pill is still influencing mine?

Finally I think my stats are:

haloflo TTC#1 cycle 3 UCL 28 CD1

Would someone add me to the list? Thanks in advance!

claire great Valentine's present

kkas hope you get to put your undies to good use on you holiday!

yorkshire I laughed so hard at "harvesting the seed" that I forgot to mention it yesterday when I posted. It gave me visions of you sneaking up on a sleeping DH, harvesting his seed into a pot, and then using a turkey baster later on I think I have an overactive imagination sometimes.

Welcome haloflo. I've added you to the list. Looks like your on lucky cycle 3 as well

I decided that I'm taking a more relaxed approach to TTC this cycle, but DH seems to have other ideas. I think he was secretly quite disappointed when AF arrived this time. Last night he announced that he doesn't think he's been putting enough effort into TTC - not with BD but general lifestyle stuff. Until the middle of last month he was drinking way too much and we argued about it quite a bit. It ended up with me saying that if he didn't make some changes to show he was committed to the cause I would just go back on the pill....I think I was quite hormonal when I said that! Anyway, he's decided that he's going to eat properly and drink less from now on. And he's trying to remember not to use his laptop on his lap so he doesn't fry his little swimmers

OP posts:
aly323 · 16/02/2010 01:41

Claire, excellent v-day present. You crack me up!

Kkas, I'm sure you will both enjoy the holiday and the undies. I'm jealous.

Pidgin, the progesterone cream is available on amazon. I used Pro-gest because I got it for a good price and because I had read that it worked well for a lot of people. It isn't nearly as strong as the prescription progesterone, but seems to do the trick for many. I applied 1/4 teaspoon twice a day after Ov (very important!) and rotated between tummy, boobs, thighs and arms. I didn't really think I had a progesterone problem since my temps go nice and high, but I also read that it could help lengthen my lp, so I figured it was worth a shot. It doesn't seem to have done anything. I started spotting yesterday and my temps are dropping. I'll be cd 1 tomorrow...

I've read that B6 and Agnus Castus can lengthen the first part of the cycle, but not always. I take a B complex (100), but it doesn't change anything for me. I've actually steered clear of AC because I've read so much mixed info on it. Some people swear by it though.

For this cycle, I'm going to go back to just my prenatal and try to watch my diet and exercise. I'm starting another trial in a couple of days, so I'll be MIA for a bit. As soon as that's done, I'm going to try to take some time off and RELAX! I'll go to the doctor in a couple weeks and try to get this all sorted out.

fudgecat · 16/02/2010 20:26

Welcome flyingcat i like the name and also welcome to haloflo hermya lol at your DH making up stupid names

kaloki i hope the packing is going ok ? try not to over do it

aries don?t worry ? you wont go to hell

pidgin hope you have fun SWI

kkas have a great holiday

Anyhow... im quite confused... last time i posted i was 100% sure that this wasn?t the month. Now im not too sure. On Sunday evening i had a bit of spotting when i wiped and have been having a few crampy pains on and off since then but no more spotting Today is CD 28 and im usually between 28-30 UCL. Last month was 28 days and the previous two were 30 days. I never normally have any spotting before AF is due any thoughts?

Kaloki · 16/02/2010 21:12

Actually they are fucking us around with moving dates (the landlord has gone to France so we now don't know whether to book a removals van for Friday, or in fact if we could get one at that late notice!

Bit of a question. How long does everyone get EWCM for? I seem to have had it for a week - or at least I assume it's EWCM - along with cramps and sore boobs. Is this just a ridiculously long ovulation?! Is that even possible?

Kaloki · 16/02/2010 21:13

Also: I'm on CD21, bit late for OV surely?!

bunnygirl80 · 16/02/2010 22:24

aly Good luck with the trial.

fudgecat No idea what the spotting means - either it's implantation, or AF getting off to a stuttering start. There's only one way to find out.......do you want me to start the chanting now!? Only test if you want to though - I know if I was you I'd wait until AF is defintely late.

Kaloki I only get 1-2 days of EWCM, but I think it's entirely normal to have it for about 5 days. You only ovulate on the last day it's there. Are you sure it's EWCM and not "leftovers" from bd - the two things look pretty similar.

MIL is arriving back here tomorrow for a few days so I might be a bit quiet. Although, she told me SIL before she left to travel over here that she was hoping I would have some baby news for her while she was visiting....looks like I'll be a big disappointment to her. She loves to go on about how FIL only had to look at her to get her pg so not sure she realises that these things can take more than 2 mins She's not meant to know we're TTC and I'm not about to tell her as I don't think I could stand being phoned up every month and asked for news.

Right, I'm off to hide the thermometer and the folic acid before she gets here

OP posts:
claireinthecommunity · 16/02/2010 23:35

Bunny, good to hear your hubby is taking things seriously and planning a bit of a 'detox'. Your comment re his laptop has made me vigilant over my DHs use/position of his! Best of luck with your visitor (and hiding all TTC related paraphernalia ).

Aly, sorry to hear you think AF is on her way. Best of luck with this next trial, you really are pulling out all the stops and I hope you get the positive result you so deserve soon

Fudgcat, I've got my fingers crossed it's implantation and not AF spotting - keep us posted!

Kaloki, what a pain about the move! Re EWCM, as bunny has said you OV at the end of EWCM and I've read that how long you experience it for depends from woman to woman and can be affected by age (shortening in length the older you get). I only get mine for two days at a push, but I'm an old bird at 34!

Well, I've reached the 2ww again, I've got a fully packed couple of weeks ahead, so, hopefully not enough time left to obsess over possible symptoms - that's the plan anyway

Claire good luck with the tww. Keeping busy is the best thing you can do!

Kaloki sorry about the frustrating change of moving dates. It'll work out in the end. I rarely get ewcm, but have read that 5 days isn't unusual. I always ovulate cd 21-23, so I don't think you're too late. Also, stress can push your ov back. It's a pain when that happens because you never know when it'll hit, so you just have to keep on bding till it hits. Maybe the stress of planning the move has gotten to your cycle?

Fudgecat, I'm hoping you've just had a case of implantation bleeding!!

Bunny, thanks for the good luck wishes. I'll need it. I wish you good luck with the MIL! My DH told his parents the minute we started. They were extremely excited, but have been kind enough not to mention it since then. However, I'm sure they hope we'll make an announcement every time we talk. Think of how great it'll be when you finally get to tell her you're having a baby!

Ok ladies, I'm updating the list with my stats. Not only did I get af, I also had the worst cramps ever last night. So...looks like I'm entering lucky number 7.

Pidgin · 17/02/2010 08:51

thanks for the info aly that sounds interesting - sorry to hear AF came for you already. I'll see what happens with my luteal phase this month and maybe try the progesterone cream next month if it's shortish again - it would be nice if it could stop the stuttering!

I'm totally confused about my cycle this month. I think I ov'd on Monday, a couple of days later than normal. DH basically imposed an SWI ban on Monday and last night - I think I may have worn him out for this month . I feel like I've handled the whole thing really badly and taken the romance out of it - it's only our second month of trying and I'm already feeling stressed out about it and making him feel bad for not being able to meet my every whim! This TTC business is just too stressful sometimes, and I'm disappointed that I've allowed myself to get stressed out about it. But then it's so hard when you know what you want, and you think you know how to get it, but it either doesn't work or you just can't time things perfectly! We must have missed the 'most fertile day' this month but we SWI'd every day in the week running up to it - will just have to keep my fingers crossed! If my body had produced the bloody egg when it was supposed to, then the timings would have been perfect ! (I know how crazy this sounds...)

Hope everyone else is doing OK. Fingers crossed for the move, kaloki. Re: EWCM, this month I had it on and off over a week-long period and ov'd on CD21, so I think it can fluctuate a fair amount (I normally only get a day or two).

claireinthecommunity · 17/02/2010 10:38

Pidgin, you don't sound crazy, you sound like any one of us on here who is trying for their first baby and finding that it's not as easy as they thought. It really is hard, no matter how many months you've been trying - keep going, you'll get there

Aly, here's to your lucky no.7 cycle

Hermya321 · 17/02/2010 11:32

Morning all!!! How are you all? I'm good I went to the Docs today and told them I was pg. She was very much 'this is very early, but congratulations, but this is very early'. Honestly I felt like bopping her on the nose, I went because I'm on medication at the moment that I was worried would be bad for LO. Mind you, some confussing forms later and I walked out of there slightly confused and with a proper booking appointment. Oh well, can't say fairer than that can you.

On the negative side, I have developed a serious case of brain drain. I walk out of one room and into another and on the way forget why I'm there in the first place. I have also, despite the fact that I spent THREE weeks on a course, seem to have forgotten how to drive properly. Madness.

Haloflo Thanks for your congrats!! Welcome to the luckiest thread on MN!!

Pidgin It doesn't sound crazy at all, did you BD on the Sunday? If so, your DH's boys could still have struck gold. They can survive for quite some time up there.

Fudge OMG!! Here's hoping and keeping all fingers and toes crossed for you!!!!

Bunny I hope having MIL isn't a stressful time for you. I know what you mean though. I didn't tell MIL as I didn't want her to be ringing or facebooking me every two minutes asking if I was up the duff.

Kaloki Sorry about your move date. But I am keeping a watchful eye over your symptons, I did get sore boobs after ovulating and they never went away. Also had LOTS of cramping as well, plus some EWCM as well.

thanks guys - that makes me feel better - those are true words of wisdom, claire, thank you. I think I need to step back and relax a little. And hermya, yes we did it on Sunday so I'm hoping there were some determined swimmers in there!

Afternoon all. I've been perusing some books a friend lent me and have become a little freaked out. OK, I can understand no alcohol, little caffeine, healthy eating - even organic - and exercise. However these books go on about staying away from the microwave, and even FILTERING YOUR BATHING WATER (that's an eye-watering number of Brita filters ). Am I alone in thinking this very OTT? What are the main things to remember? It would be great to hear from some who are old (like me) and have successfully conceived with no medical intervention. Any pointers?

Also I have a question about CM. If I only noticed it one day this cycle is that a Bad Thing?

Pidgin · 17/02/2010 17:22

Hi ariesgirl. I'm sorry, but filtering your bathing water?! Makes you despair for the future of humankind that people write and believe that sort of thing! There's a lot of this kind of guff surrounding baby-making, I have found. I gave up on one of Zita West's books when she said that you should avoid using tampons - at all - because they interfere of the flow of your life energy. Good grief!

This is what I have done as a concession to TTC:

  • cut down on drinking, esp. in the 2ww - although I don't think the odd small glass then does any harm
  • take a supplement - multivit including folic acid
  • try to get my 5-a-day and eat less rubbish (although that's really for me more than any foetus-to-be!) I don't have that much caffiene generally so haven't worried too much about that. I figure we could be TTC for a few months or even a couple of years. That's a long time to filter your bath water/ give up coffee, etc. Each to their own, of course! As far as I can see, there's a whole industry built up around TTC which tries to convince you that if you do exactly the right thing you'll get the lovely healthy baby you deserve - but that's just not true - some people do everything 'right' and don't conceive after all.

Sorry, rant over. Re: CM, I think one day is not a Bad Thing - might help you identify your peak day? I didn't get any for six months or so after coming off the pill. You could always try a sperm-friendly lubricant on other days?

Ariesgirl · 17/02/2010 17:33

No I completely agree with you! Filtering your bloody bathing water indeed. Please believe me when I assure you I threw the book down in disgust! What a crock. They'll be advocating washing your hair in a holy well at full moon or something next. Near our house there's a stone with a hole in it which you're supposed to crawl through seven times if you want a baby. Maybe I'll give that a whirl instead

Kaloki · 17/02/2010 18:36

"because they interfere of the flow of your life energy"

Haha, fantastic!!

fudgecat · 17/02/2010 20:33

kaloki thats rubbish about your landlord ? you must be really pissed off

bunnygirl you can chant it you want but I think i will hold off testing until Friday when AF is officially late. The only time i had spotting in the past was on my 1st cycle and i did 3 tests and got 3x BFP... but then 2 days after AF was due she arrived so i guess that was a very early MC or more likely a CP (I have no idea when one turns into the other tho) Because of that i don?t want to test too soon only for it to be over before its even really started. I would rather be ignorant and just have a late AF if that makes sense. Will your MIL be borrowing your pc\laptop? If so remember to clear your history

claire here is hoping your 2ww doesn?t go too slowly.. it can seem like forever...

aly323 sorry that AF got you. I hope your cramps are a bit better today

pidgin i wouldn?t worry, i have read that the little swimmers can hang about for a good few days so you are still in with a chance

hermya that a bit negative of the doctor ? have they never heard of having a positive mental attitude? Fingers crossed your booking in goes better. Thanks for crossing your fingers for me

ariesgirl filtered bath water?!?!? That?s bonkers!!!

Bellaby · 17/02/2010 21:09

Hello

bunnygirl - is that true about laptops and men? Hope the visit from the MIL goes well. Watch out if she brings you Marmite -label on jar says that 1 portion has 100mg of Folic Acid (if I read that right) - seems quite high!

Aly - fingers crossed for Cycle 7!

Pidgin - hope some of your SWI rubs off on me. So far our TTC is certainly lacking the first T! Doesn't help that DH is obsessed with a new TV series we are watching (Dexter) which seems to take priority!

Ariesgirl - I think you should follow exactly what you have been reading to the leter... not! The whole world has gone advice mad - one day something is esential and the next it's bad for you! Common sense is the approach I'm taking.

Hermya - glad to see you haven't abandoned us quite yet!

EWCM??? - can anyone tell me

Have a lovely evening all
