Come on in, ladies. I've had a widescreen telly installed and there's a big cupboard full of 80s teen movies if anyone's interested. New and more secure cages for our prey are being delivered soon. There's a big picture of a desert over the bar, a loudly ticking clock in the corner and bowls of raisins, currants and sultanas on every table; everything the discerning BESH could ask for...

Personally, I like vampires. I was a big Buffy fan back in the day (until it turned into a soap opera).

I once met Tony Benn, he was hypnotic.

Thanks Lyra and all BESH loveins. I haven't gone to the EPU. I am monitoring my vag juice instead. I still feel like death warmed up, with hiedous sickness, which is supposed to be a good thing, and neatly brings me back to vampires.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 13:56

Here here, Scorps! Rah! Wimminz!

To add to that, the other thing I love about the Palace is the money it is clearly going to force me to spend. Last week was all about the music, this is all about the makeup.

Here is my last word on politics For today, at least.

Scorpette · 09/10/2009 14:08

Ooooh, Kim, I met Tony Benn as a child and I felt the same way! Doesn't he have appalling teeth, though?! (And I can talk) He was my Grandparents' MP for a long while and they said he was a wonderful guy; ended up being quite friendly with my Gramps, as they used to sit for hours together in his constituency surgery, smoking like chimneys and talking about sport.

Thanks for that link, Camel, it was ace. My first piece of published poetry (oooh, get me) was about her and along a similar bent. Before anyone gets impressed, I'll quote you what a so-called friend of mine said when I excitedly told him about the publication: "So what? Doesn't mean it's good; Joe Dolce got to number one with 'Ah shaddapaya face' ".

I'm still sat here in pjs, with wet hair. Have I left it too late to go into town (30 mins away)? (It's my day off and my cold is a lot better) Bear in mind I'll have to spend ages drying my hair and putting on all that bloody make-up

OP posts:
kimdeal · 09/10/2009 14:08

mmmm, ideal, have people forgotten? Thinking on it, isn't that what they said after WW1?
Sorry, that was your last word on the subject.
So anyway, did anyone look at this or what:"blondebill
www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmngLUtxwJM"
Yeh, the breadth of besh topics , so can anyone speak Japanese on here? go on, random much.

skihorse · 09/10/2009 14:11

Ugh - speaking of sucking blood etc., has anyone seen the advertisements for that new film where a mad doctor surgically attaches 3 people mouth-to-bum?

Scorpette I don't like discussing politics. Because of my views people treat me as though I eat babies - and as a Jew we've already spent centuries trying to convince the goys that we don't drink Christian baby blood. Diclaimer: We need half a pint of Christian baby blood for each serving of latkes as it is but we get it wholesale.

kimdeal · 09/10/2009 14:14

Scorpy noooo - really! Wow, starstruck, that's so sweet - your Gramps and Tony smoking fags together (smirk cuntysunshine); also about your poetry, of course.

Oh go into town, you'll feel loads better than sitting about in your pjs.

kimdeal · 09/10/2009 14:16

You post way too fast. Isn't it Christians what drink baby blood? Yeh, it is. Yer off the hook, ski.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 14:21

I always knew that William the Bloody Awful Poet was based on Billy Idol - but I never realised how much! Buffy-esque funs AND literal video. Ta, kim. Am keeping my legs crossed for you, btw, and glad all signs are still hopeful.

Published poet? Blimey, we are a talented bunch.

I can't speak Japanese, but I did once have an academic article about Buffy published - any use? It was a feminist analysis of Season 7, with particular reference to Storyteller. Best piece of academic work I ever did.

kimdeal · 09/10/2009 14:26

cackle

Scorpette · 09/10/2009 14:30

Disclaimer: the poetry was shit. And the collection is not out of print, thank fuck.

Ski, in that case, I will try to drop the subject. Besides, I am 'Jewish enough' (1 Grandparent) to have been put in a camp besides you, back in the day. And for the record, Mrs Thatcher does not, nor has ever eaten babies.

Because to need to eat she'd have to be human first.

Eye thangyew!

I may discuss my politics freely, but dare I admit I never liked Buffy?

And on that bombshell...

OP posts:
skihorse · 09/10/2009 14:37

I rather do like Buffy, there was a parady on jezebel.com where they compared Buffy to Twighlight. It was full of Buffy kicking Edward's arse every time he said something like "you're my own personal brand of heroin" - and like if she'd caught Spike standing over when she was sleeping she'd have chewed him a new arsehole hahahah. I never saw Buffy as a feminist icon at the time - but my god - better than drippy Belle!

kimdeal · 09/10/2009 14:42

I suspect you disliked Buffy only because you failed to watch early Buffys (I was just as prejudiced before watching).
It was brilliantly written, which, as a published poet, I am sure you would appreciate. She was also something of a feminist icon, as ideal's treatise may have covered.
Not that I could be bovvad now.

kimdeal · 09/10/2009 14:46

god ski you nimble-fingered tory. You got in there too soon! She was almost a fem icon, apart from possibly being a bit too much body-con, but then aren't all (most) of them, Naomi W eh.

ginhag · 09/10/2009 14:56

Forgive me for not joining in your 'heated debate' (mrs Merton description) but I was up with the boy every 2 hours last night and am now a man down at work as our lovely best friends (one of whom runs our office) had their baby last night.

Fastest labour I have ever known. Mental.

Anyway the point is I'm tired and emotional and the last fucking thing I want is to listen to political debate...I love you all but seriously, shut the fuck up.

The buffy issue however,I cannot let pass.scorp you are a freak.

I'm sooooo tired I think I might cry.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 14:57

(A few) Reasons to like Buffy:

Genius comedy writing

A MUSICAL episode

Proper feminism - Season 7 revealed that the existence of only one Slayer in each generation was due to a mammoth patriarchal conspiracy and the show ended on the most uplifting every-girl-has-power note that I have ever witnessed. (Also of interest here; Joss Whedon's connection to Equality Now, fab feminist charity)

Lovely ensemble cast

The Excuse-me-I-have-to-go-and-sit-in-a-bath-of-ice-now sexual tension between Spike and Buffy.

Fighting! Fighting Demons!

The saddest, most real episode of tv ever written, aka The Body

Emmy-award winning silent episode Hush

Have just realised I can get more ranty about a show that was cancelled years ago than I can about current politics. I am bad.

ginhag · 09/10/2009 14:59

Don't for a second think that means that I don't have opinions. It's just not what I personally need from the palace.

kim glad you doing okay, how is the juice anyway?

Scorpette · 09/10/2009 15:07

Kim, you are right about me not seeing the start of Buffy and it was hard to jump in and go with the flow. I approve of all it stands for, mind.

Has anyone else been gripped by Criminal Justice this week? Last night I was worrying about Juliet (the protagonist) in my dreams!

Right, am off to town. My folks came round to borrow something and insisted on giving me £1.50 'towards my bus fare'. Erm, thanks?

OP posts:
kimdeal · 09/10/2009 15:11

Gin snoggings, hugs, and let's talk about nice things: demons, vampires, and the musical episode! Ideal do we actually know each other in RL... hmmm. Oh and that one where she can hear what everyone else thinks. Long and short of it is, everything will be okkkay dearhag. Can I get another snog in? Gins all round. (I'll update you on the juice later.)

kimdeal · 09/10/2009 15:21

Scor £1.50 was a lot in 1982. The probably still think it's 1982.
Glad you are finally going out. (Not that I can speak.)

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 15:22

Gin! Gin! Gin!

(Both the hag and the boozes)

Kim Was it the sitting in a bath of ice?

At the end of one failed relationship with one of those men who are all "oh, I'm so damaged so I cannot be with you - but please don't fuck off and get on with your life" I watched an entire season of Buffy while consuming only gin, bacon and avocado sandwiches and Mingles. It helped.

RunLyraRun · 09/10/2009 15:23

I never really got fully into Buffy, enjoyed the odd episode but didn't watch whole series - but the camel is selling it, sounds very intriguing. Perhaps a boxset for my birthday.

ginster's pasty - couldn't agree more. Plenty of opinions but not what I come here for.

kimdeal · 09/10/2009 15:33

Gin! Gin! Gin! AND pasties.

Eh? What ice bath? God, I can just imagine: he probably went off with ski's khaki bint.
Buffy was the only thing that got me thru my (late) 20s. Mingles heheheh

ginhag · 09/10/2009 16:52

Good, glad that's settled. And that I'm not the only one who was thinking it! (cheers Lyra)

right, leaving the office shortly. Mum n dad coming up with mani, going out for tea/beer. Hurrah.

I didn't like musical buffy. Not my thang. Loved everything else about it. Angel and spike mmmm yum.

Missed tru blood will catch repeat, tho chap at work seen loads on DVD and said it's actually quite shit... We shall see.

Still want an update on your lady leakage kimdeal

ginhag · 09/10/2009 17:48

Ps kimlush you're a great kisser ta for the snogs...cheered me up.

Medee · 09/10/2009 18:04

if youdon't mind, I'll post this here too...

if I last had sex Monday, and ovulated yesterday, what are the chances of my getting pregnant? The frequent shagging has become a chore, and a source of friction with husband and I. What ovulation predictor methods are best to allow us to focus the frequent shagging -with such a long cycle it has been hard pinning it down, but now I have ov confirmation, I can at least start to work things out. Any recommendations?
