Come on in, ladies. I've had a widescreen telly installed and there's a big cupboard full of 80s teen movies if anyone's interested. New and more secure cages for our prey are being delivered soon. There's a big picture of a desert over the bar, a loudly ticking clock in the corner and bowls of raisins, currants and sultanas on every table; everything the discerning BESH could ask for...

Oh Kim, I hope you're okay. I know I'd be feeling just like you (well, prolly a bit more hysterical), but loads of women get all sorts of bleeding at various stages of updiffment - or indeed, at stages all the way through - and that's what you should try and focus on right now. Dr Molko sounds a good 'un and I hope SOOOO much everything is fine when you go to the EPU. Fingers crossed

As fer the rest of yous:

I was reading Lyra's first comment about my skin and feeling really good about myself (especially as I'm currently rocking a bitchin' combo of period-acne, greyish flu-ridden complexion, dark undereye circles the colour of liver and nostrils and upper lip that look like they're made of bright red flaky pastry)... aaaaaand then the slagging commenced

I don't drink or smoke, I only drink water or high quality organic juice, I cook everything I eat from scratch with 90% organic stuff as I am allergic to everything, I don't go out cos I'm dull and all the £ I save on that lot I then spend on top quality skincare and make-up* on eBay. And I have good genes (90 yr old Gran looks 70). You too can look a few years younger if you are boring and don't enjoy yourself! And I ain't mad; I fret and am neurotic. There's a difference. I'm actually very mentally and emotionally strong - I just waffle on when I'm worried, probably cos my Mum does. So HMMMPH (I know you were being nice really ). I've been in a right mardy mood all day and sorting people out good-style. Anyone got a twunt in their life who needs tearing a new asshole? I'm yer gal.

I could sort out that bint who wore khaki and turquoise. She needs to be beaten to death with a copy of Italian Vogue. Oh yeah, and getting off with Ski's bloke wasn't very nice either. My so-called best friend slept with my boyfriend when we were 17 And she wore Laura Ashley frocks and french pleat hairdont's with a big fringe. And is really fat with a shit husband now (and 2 kids, but I'll ignore that). But brilliantly, I wanted to dump him anyway because he was ugly, useless and boring, with a tiny cock, so I got rid of him AND got loads of sympathy too. Yay!

Aw, my Gran and parents came into my work today cos it's her 90th birthday and we had a lovely time and she went crazy for the hand-painted locket I got her, so it was a good day, really

*Scorpette's Top Tip: Touche Eclat is rubbish. You want by Terry's Touche Veloutee. It costs more than Ski's jaunt to Canadialand, but it's beyond worth it.

PPS I'm now shouting at David Cameron on Ch 4 news. LYING, HEARTLESS, RIGHT-WING, OVER-PRIVILEGED WANKER! I'm hoping Michael Foot will announce a surprise bid for Labour leadership. He's still alive and I'm keeping the red flag flying for him until I hear different.

OP posts:
Scorpette · 08/10/2009 19:08

PPPS I'm not a New Labour voter, mind. Too right-wing for me (no joke).

Scorpy funnily enough I was just shouting the self same thing at the news at ten!! I fear Homme is wavering towards a tory vote, but I shall refuse him sex and then he will change his mind.

Is Terry's Touche Veloutee anything like Terry's chocolate orange? I've just bought 4 of those for the xmas stockings

Ponymum · 08/10/2009 22:18

scorp You didn't scare us cos we already knew you were a loon.

Tonight I have been scanning other threads. Here's what i have discovered: If I ever dare to join the due June10 thread I will not be the oldest there, or even the second oldest. There is someone 42 and someone 44! The average age seems to be about 35 with lots of 37s, a 39 etc. Unbelievable.
Also, the babies born August 09 have a thread title of 'Welcome to the world all the little princes and princesses.' Surely this is a joke. I want to run on to the thread screaming 'YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!' But I am sure they are all very nice people.

skihorse · 09/10/2009 05:26

Ponymum That's really great about the more mature mums - and you're not the oldest!

As for the "little princes & princesses" - fuck me, is that not a behavioural problem or 10 in the making? No wonder these kids grow up with a fucked sense of entitlement.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 09:47

Ponymum I guess that thread title is proof that sharing a due date does not mean you share common ground?

Scorpyloon Am absolutely with you at the shouting at Cameron's fuckoff smug Etonian-educated over-privileged ran-around-Oxford-with-stupid-toff-friends-in-tow face. Am loathing politics at the moment; no one seems like a viable voting choice.

Also, many thanks for makeup tip. Have become allergic to Touche Eclat (ironically, kept getting red, swelled-up bags under eyes, thus using more Touche Eclat to cover up and so on and so forth until realised what was wrong) and have been using the Guerlain Issima, but I'm not loving that. Space NK here I come. Tho' possibly after payday...

RunLyraRun · 09/10/2009 09:48

Pony, new boy started work in my team this week. I think he's 26, his baby sister is 6mths old - his mum is 48! Hurrah!

Scorps, am ignoring last night's rant, and instead asking you:

  1. What did you think of 1st ep True Blood? I thought it promising, not entirely sure, but will stick with it for a few weeks at least.
  2. Exciting that they've found a virus connected to CFS, innit?

Kim, hope all goes well today, if you do go to EPU.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 10:00

Lyra & Scorpette Gah! I was out last night and missed True Blood. Friends at work are obsessed with both it and the books, and I have high hopes, so will be interested in verdicts.

skihorse · 09/10/2009 10:13

Well I like DC and I like what he stands for. Furthermore I don't ridicule people because their parents had the audacity to give them the best education they could. By the by, Blair attended Fettes.

I'm a Tory because I take responsibility for myself and it works for me. I don't want to be dragged down to the lowest common denominator.

I shall say no more - the discussion of politics I find too draining.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 10:23

Ski Sorry, I know that you don't want to fight, especially on this board, but will froth at the mouth all day if I don't say this. Am deeply uncomfortable with "audacity to give them the best education they could". The sense of entitlement instilled particularly in Old Etonians (and people from Rugby/Winchester et al) by the ridiculously privileged nature of their education is massively destructive. To grow up with the limited view of society that these schools create, purely because the ability to go there is determined by wealth and gender, is not in the slightest bit healthy - or, indeed, the best education for dealing with the realities of life. I don't see how inheriting land/privilege is compatible with taking responsibility for oneself in this world.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 10:24

Ooh, and Fettes. I don't think Blair is defensible either.

idealcamel · 09/10/2009 10:37

In happier news, world does something right

Ponymum · 09/10/2009 11:45

kim Hoping all is well today.

ski But isn't it irrelevant what your political views are? I thought royals were not allowed to vote.

Scorpette · 09/10/2009 12:12

ski, think you have accidentally used the word 'audacity', when you meant to use 'sickening privilege and sense of entitlement'. Anyone can do the best for their children if they have the bloody money and power to! I know you went to Mallory Towers, but I wasn't slagging off all public school-ers (although I must confess that I don't agree with public schooling) - my best friend went to a top one and is something bonkers like 110th in line to the throne. Mind you, he's a hippy artist, so not a big DC fan. I, on the other hand, went to school in a mining area and anyone who'd witnessed the effects The Miner's Strike had on families like I did would spit at the TV every time a Conservative MP comes on.

Cameron and Blair can both fuck off. Blair was/is a Tory-lite religious loon, AFAIC. New Labour are crap, but the thought of the Tories shitting on this country like The Devil Woman Thatch and her succubi did in the 80s and early 90s actually makes me genuinely worry about bringing children up in a country ruled by them. Anyone who thinks they did a good job and life was sweet under them was living in a different Britain to me. I'm a Socialist because I believe that part of being a mature and responsible adult is caring about other people as much as I do about me and mine, especially those who, nearly always through no fault of their own, are considered the 'lowest common denominator'.The focus needs to be on them, not those of us who already have it cushty. Anyone who does not feel motivated by altruism needs to examine their own psyche; being human is about 'we', not 'I'. Society needs to work for all/ as many as possible, not solely for those with the power and influence behind them to make it work just for them.

Did we have our first fight, Ski? I still love ya! I'm quite excited about having a Tory friend - Mummy, can we keep her?

Now onto some truly important matters: TELLY and TTC!

I quite liked True Blood. The accents are a bit grating and Suki's manslag brother off-puttingly looks a bit like TYF if TYF was shorter, muscular and less geek-chic (and the actor was in Home & Away year ago, which was weird). I shall enjoy it. I like things were they don't pretend eople don't shag, swear and say filthy things to their friends. Have also recorded Generation Kill and will watch tonight, as me and TYF lurved The Wire and have high hopes for GK (same people behind the two).

Lyra, have not heard about this CFS and virus link thing. I know ME is different from CFS in that it usually has a viral root cause, whereas CFS usually has an undiagnosed/untreated condition such as low thyroid/low adrenal function, hypoglycaemia, etc. as the underlying cause (this is me). Do you have a web link you could pass my way?

Camel, agree with your views and hope my make-up tips help (oooh, am I the Lauren Luke of the Gin Palace now? ). Tip 2: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation is the best base I've ever used. BTW, your link about the world doing summat right said it no longer existed

OP posts:
Scorpette · 09/10/2009 12:14

I'm going for quantity not quality at the mo

OP posts:
idealcamel · 09/10/2009 12:47

The link was supposed to be to lovely Mr Obama getting the Nobel Prize.

And yes, I know that he hasn't actually done anything yet. But he makes me all warm and fuzzy and happy.

While you're Lauren Luke-ing, scorp, any idea what I can do about post-pill acne? Bobbi Brown foundation is wonderful. Am currently being excited about a this Shu Uemura foundation which might be magic

And I loved The Wire, too. Ah, telly, it is my friend. I went to a very serious and important talk at the Frontline club last night, having been out drinking the night before, and now I have to go out for a friend's leaving drinks tonight and I MISS MY SOFA.

skihorse · 09/10/2009 12:51

Actually Scorpette I disagree. Under a Tory gov I had a grammar school education - so my parents didn't have to pay a bean for me to get a good education. We all want the best education we can possibly provide for our children - I don't think there's anything weird about that. I never went to public school - there are state boarding schools too! The lowest common denominator will be looked after by every government - but I want it to be OK for me to want more than "bare minimum". I'm sorry your life was so difficult in the 80s - I wouldn't have thought with your parents it would be. One of the things which pisses me off MOST about Labour is this intrusion in to people's lives.

Altruism is find and dandy in theory - but I'm not sure it's always so black & white. One of my oldest friends works for MSF (medicin sans frontieres) and is currently in Sierra Leone - last year she was in Somalia. Your charity donations paid for her villa, Jack Daniels, Marlboros and armed guards and for her to sunbathe (with armed guards) in Eitrea... She says she's the most altruistic person she knows.

Anyway - this is where we whine about baybeeees, not politics.

skihorse · 09/10/2009 12:53

Someone recommended "True Blood" to me but I find vampires very "meh".

Scorpette · 09/10/2009 13:41

Ski - True Blood ain't nuffink like Twilight, which I know you enjoyed so much. I thought it was promising and a bit 'different'. Can you get it over there in NL?

My life was difficult in the 80s because my parents were members of CND and The Fabian Society, did a lot of work for Oxfam and my Mum was at Greenham Common and we had our phones bugged, were occasionally put under surveillance and were generally harassed (one ex.: police set dogs on me and my mum once at a peaceful anti-apartheid rally because they knew who she was - how? V frightening). And they were just normal people, not massive subversive activists or anything! TYF says the same thing happened to his Grandparents as his Gramps was a member of the Communist party. It was also difficult because it was upsetting to live in an era where egalitarianism was mocked and rejected and society became all about consumerism and 'me me me'. Mind you, I totally agree that there is far too much intrusion on people's lives and have plenty of issues about the current Government (inc. the Iraq War, which I'll leave well alone) - I'm not a Labour supporter now as they are too right-wing for me. I'm a reluctant Lib Dem voter as they seem to be 'the least bad'.

Incidentally, there were no good schools where I grew up, despite living in an admittedly posh area, so there was no chance for me to have a good education. And just because your chum takes the piss doesn't make all altruistic folks chancers who are only doing it to look good. C- for using kneejerk example.

Camel, the Obama thing is indeed good. But more importantly, spots coverage: I am sporting the same throbbing beezer near my mouth that I got last droid. Zexy! I use MAC studio sculpt concealer (in NW 15, the palest shade!) and that really does the trick, with a little sheer powder on top (Lily Lolo mineral cosmetics) if it's really bad.

Y'see, NOW I'm talking about something I'm REALLY passionate about!

PS ski, I love a good battle of wills; was brought up to debate and argue. So I hope you're taking my comments in the manner intended: mainly that I esteem you deeply as an equal in discussion

OP posts:
Scorpette · 09/10/2009 13:44

Gawd, I LOVE the Palace - full of clever, feisty wimminz not afraid to say their piece and able to chat about everything from politics, to zeitgeist telly to make-up and beyond. And now and then, we talk about baybeez too. For some reason.

OP posts:
RunLyraRun · 09/10/2009 13:54

Camel, even though the link was broken I knoew that was what you meant - love love love him too.

Scorps, the stuff I have read has referred to ME/CFS as being one and the same: link - but maybe the 67% of people who have XMRV will be those with ME, and the other 33% will be those with an undiagnosed condition, in which case no help to you, soz

Going to write all your make up tips down and go shopping
