Hello

This is my first post on Mumsnet although I've been reading the conception threads avidly.

I'm due to start Clomid tomorrow and I've just been reading the lengthy side effects and now I've gone from excited to really scared.

Are they really that bad? I'm having visions of myself in a darkened room with pencils up my nose!

Any reasurances would be greatly appreciated. Headaches and hot flushes I can cope with. Insanity I can't.

A friend of mine has twins on her own and it looks really hard but she wouldn't have it any other way. Have you got much support from family and friends in your area Issy?

I've been thinking about the prospect of twins and have come to the conclusion that you'd need to have to sort yourself out a routine pretty damn quick. Set up a bed time routine with my son which we stick to 95% of the time but other than that we are quite relaxed but I think you can be with just one.

Aren't you having treatment tomorrow Issy? Good luck if you are.

I'm having some pains in my right ovary today which I'm a bit confused about because I'm fairly sure I ovulated last Thursday.

Between clomid symptoms, ov symptoms, AF and pregnancy symptoms we're all going bloody mad!

Welcome Hulababy.

Summermagic - my parents live 6 hours drive away in Scotland, but at least where they live is a holiday destination, so it'll feel like going on holiday when we visit. My grandmothers are also far away, but again holiday destinations. I have a small group of very close friends, but they too are scattered around the country as I've moved around a lot and have only lived in this area for 3 years - though there are two or three close friends nearby. I know lots of people when I go out, but I'm not sure I'd class them as true friends yet. I have every intention of getting involved with the donor conception network and mother and baby groups etc though. I'm really hoping I'm pg soon as one of my closest friends is currently 13 weeks and it'd be great if our maternity leave overlapped. One of my friends at work tells me that once you have kids your friendship circles change anyway, so I'm not too worried.

My DI is at 8:30 tomorrow, thanks for your good wishes.

Regarding your symptoms, that's where temping is really good because once you get the rise you know you've ov'd. I once spent an evening convinced I was ovulating because had pain on right hand side, only to remember several hours later that it was left side that had the follicles ! So now I put these things down to normal digestive processes that I've suddenly become more aware of.

Am feeling exhausted tonight. Might even go to bed soon. I'm normally a night owl (for now) but as I have to be up early for the hospital ...

Fingers crossed for us all for BFPs in the coming weeks xxx

ray81 · 05/11/2008 13:43

Hi Guys,

Issy how did the DI go? how are you feeling today?

Well guys i may just be getting myself at it but my friends friend had reflexology and they told her she was PG before she knew as the part of her foot that is the womb was swollen. now i know which part this is and i noticed last night that that part of my foot is swollen. I wasnt looking for it and i only remembered the above story when i noticed it.
I have shown a few friends and they all agree it is Very swollen as was worried i was seeing something that wasnt there.
What do we think guys, also normall have AF symptoms by now and have none Hmmmmmmmmmmm good or bad sign do you think.
Another thing is that i always get a feeling about friends being PG before they even know they are and have done this a few times and i have this feeling about me this month. We have been trying for nearly 5 years and i have never has this feeling about me before i am trying so hard to et rid of it but it will not go away its there all the time.

Oh i hate this TTC thing i realy do so much guess work and stuff. what do you think guys do i have reason to be positive?

summermagic · 05/11/2008 14:10

Oh how exciting. I think you definately do and positivity is a major factor I think. When is your AF due? I'll have everything crossed for you.

Hope the DI went well Issy.

I think the world is looking up. Obama in the White House and at least one of us looking hopeful for a BFP this month.

Hi summer magic,

Not due for another 9 days so along wait yet i'll let you all know if PMT arrives as that will be it over for me !!!!

summermagic · 05/11/2008 17:11

Friday for me too though not feeling as optimistic as you for this month.

OP posts:
Issy42 · 06/11/2008 00:53

That sounds exciting Ray. I think that gut feeling is so often right, so fingers crossed for you. I read somewhere that you have to be careful around the ankle when you have reflexology if you're pg.

DI went OK, despite cervix playing hide and seek, but is first time I have had to go to work afterwards when I've had the hcg and had horrid cramps all day. Lets just hope one of those eggs sticks. I really hate the 2ww.

Don't give up hope yet summermagic - it's not over til it's over.

Wouldn't it be great if we all got BFPs this time xxx

Gingerbear · 06/11/2008 01:10

hello. I was a clomid taker in 2006 I just wanted to post and give you all hope. I had a baby boy in May 2007, conceived on 100mg clomid in 2006. I found out I was PG on my birthday in 2006. It worked for me. I pray it works fpr you too. I totally relate to your posts here. Much love GB xx

ray81 · 06/11/2008 08:41

Hi Issy,

Im glad it all went well, i remember the crams when i had the IUI and my cervix played hide and seek to. i think i may have a tilted one but they have never confirmed it. I am praying that you get a sticky bean this month i realy am.

I went to my friends last nite and she is PG i shoed her my foot and hers is the same !!!!! our other friend was there to and she isnt pg and her foot is normal. I was abit worred it may be due to AF being near but the friend that isnt pg is also due and hers isnt. surley that is a good sign. Oh god i am so praying that it is.
Still have no Af symptoms and they are def normally here by now and i still havr that realy positive feeling that i am, although still trying to surpress it as still have 8 days and that feels like forever and ever.

Gingerbear, thanks so much for the positive story i think we all needed to hear one.

Summer magic, is it this fri you are due ? any signs ? oh i realy hope we all get BFPs this month it would be great.

summermagic · 06/11/2008 11:46

Ray you have got me obsessively examining my feet but other than realising that I need to ask for a pedicure for Christmas I'm not seeing anything yet.

I am soooooo excited for you though. My AF is due around next Friday I think (is yours Thursday?) and although I am holding out hope I do feel fat and ugly which is how I usually feel around this time in my cycle. I can honestly say that your BFP's would massively soften the blow for me so I really do have everything crossed for you.

Was looking back at a diary I wrote while pregnant and travelling last night and realised for the first time that I actually did have symptopms before my period was due. I keep refering to this horrible smell in the place we were staying (which I remember now that James didn't really notice) and saying that my boobs felt uncomfortable in my bikini. So strange that the one time I was actually pregnant I didn't suspect a thing. It actually took for me to be feeling sick all day every day for a week until it finally dawned on me!

Take it easy Issy and thanks Gingerbear for your words of encouragement. It's so nice having you all to talk to.

Hi Summermagic,

so sorry to get you obsessive about your feet!!! to say im abit obsessive about them now is an understatment. The swelling is still there and have noticed a vein just below angle which is pulsing all the time it looks realy odd and funnily enough its not on the other foot.

I am due next Fri or Sat but then i keep working it out to be different days, if i go from the day i got my surge then its Weds, if i go from 36hrs later its fri, if i go from first day of being pain free its sat ( i always feel when i OV) i think it will be safer just to go with sat as this is the furthest day. if the Ov test was right then i am 10 days post ov and i normally have a 17 day LF so i only have 7 days left which takes me to thurs next week see how confused i am !!! does anyone know if you can have an LF longer than 16 days?

I normally get AF symptoms by now too and cant believe i have none at all esp as i am on clomid and last month my symptoms were realy quite bad, i had pain and was tired and bbs were sore and i was very emontional this month i feel alot better.

When i was PG with my dd i remember having AF pains on the Sat and then hadnt had Af by the mon, did a test and was +ive, the docs said i was only 4 weeks PG but i'm not so sure they were right you know. I had no other symptoms of being PG at all i had such a great PG i'm sure next time round it wont be too good.

I am still keeping fingers crossed for you too summermagic someone has to have a BFP this month.

summermagic · 06/11/2008 12:57

Oh I'm so confused about the working out thing too.

I'm just counting from when I got mucous changes which is last Thursday. Does that mean I ovulated in the few days after that or actually on that day? Have I asked this question already.

I'm not sure for definate Ray but isn't something like 10 to 17 days normal?

I've weed three times since getting to work today which is unusual for me so I'm taking that as a possible sign of pregnancy so am now feeling much jollyer.

Right must pay my bounced mortgage payment.

eighteenstonesix · 06/11/2008 13:21

hi,I haven't read all the posts but just thought i'd tell you my story....think there was a similar thread not so long ago so forgive me if i'm repeating myself .
i was taking clomid over 10 years ago now and i eventually conceived and had my dd1.3mths later,i was pregnant again with ds1 and 3 months after he was born,i was pregnant again....!Hence dd2 (apparently, the clomid had stimulated my ovaries and that's probably why i had become so fertile...hope that's given you some hope.)
As far as symptoms, the ones i remember are the hot flushes but as the specialist told me at the time,"they prove that it's working"!!!(Think he was right!)
All the best with it.

ray81 · 06/11/2008 13:29

I didnt notice any CM changes this month so i dont know where to go from where that is concerned. But i would assume that you would be Ov when you have the CM change or the day after. Yes you have asked this before he he

Weeing alot a good sign hon esp if you dont normally do that as it is an increase in the progestrone when your PG that causes that. Be positive as you never know until the AF lady arrives.

As for me i have also been to the toilet alot if you know what i mean (sorry TMI) but that is not normally like me usualy it is 2-3 days before i do but have been everyday thats realy strange. Have been looking on the internet and the bit of foot that is swollen in the reproductive area. Oh how exciting i so so so so so hope it has worked this month.

Good luck with the mortage payment (Bastard robbers they are).

seriously this time is dragging found myself going to bed early so its the next day sooner, how sad is that.
My DD is being picked up by her Papa this afternoon so going into town to get dd the key stage one Sats test practice papers and then have lots and lots of House work to do my house is a mess. I am normally so obsessive about things being clean but have realy relaxed about it lately as it was making me tired and i didnt want to be if you know what i mean.

Sorry rambling now. Positive thinking for both of us ok.

PussinJimmyWhoooos · 06/11/2008 13:33

Ray - saw you had posted and wanted to pop in and wish you loads of luck...keeping all my fingers and toes crossed for you. When is AF due?

ray81 · 06/11/2008 14:04

AF due sometime at the end of next week. fingers crossed as i dont have any Af symptoms as yet and i normally have them by now.

I also have this funny swelling on my foot which is in the reproductive area and i am hoping this is a good sign. trying not to get hopes up to high am going to have to find alot to do in the next week to keep my mind off it.

How are you Pussin?

summermagic · 06/11/2008 17:24

Thanks for your message eighteenstonesix. Maybe I'll be able to get a sneaky third in without my DP even notice then!

Ray you're excitement levels are already nearly off the radar. What are you going to be like next week? You'll be shopping for tiny clothes already.

Thanks though. Your positive energy is keeping me positive.

Ray - am on another thread stressing about my weird AF - having what looks like implantation bleed (blood in mucus on CD26 then very thin and watery brown stuff which seems to have nearly stopped this eve) BUT bfn on 3 tests so far....so wtf??? CD 28 today and AF normally starts CD29 so technically I could be testing too early...its doing my head in...feel vaguely nauseous but that could be pmt...

I didn't know areas on your feet were linked to reproduction - is that reflexology type thing then?

Issy42 · 06/11/2008 23:59

Feeling much better today, must have been the hcg causing the cramps, but a little bit morning sicknessy from it.

Thanks for giving us hope with your positive stories gingerbear and eighteenstonesix.

Ray - I have a retroverted womb - is that the same thing? But sometimes it's fine and other times I have to cough hard, put fists under my bum, get off the bed and jump up and down etc. Heaven knows what getting a baby out will be like . You have intrigued me, what part of the foot are you talking about? All the signs sound good for you, I'm really hoping it is a BFP for you. If you're confused over ov perhaps you should try taking your temperature around ov time as the rise will tell you when you ov'd and help you determine what CM you have just before and just after. My theory (excuses) on house cleaning is I don't do it in the 2ww because I think it's best to take it easy and I don't do it when I have my period because I'm too tired so that leaves one weekend each month for cleaning, so all you have to do is be away/busy that weekend and you never have to clean (garden/exercise) . BTW IUI without donor sperm is only £415 at my hospital, so perhaps you should move here!!!

Summermagic - I like the pedicure idea. I'm treating myself to a back and scalp massage on Saturday - booked it thinking it would be IUI day. I've never had a professional massage before other than reflexology a long time ago. I had the smell thing from a week after ov when I was pg too and again last month. I hope your mortgage company passes on the 1.5% to you, my fixed rate ends January and I've been dreading finding an extra £100 for mine - hopefully it might not be that much now. WRT CM I've read that EWCM means ov in next 24 hours, but I'm sure I've had it several days before (but the gel from the scans can get confusing). The important thing is once it goes sticky you've ov'd, but clomid can affect that.

Thanks both for your BFP and sticky bean wishes, which are whole-heartedly reciprocated. BTW Sainsburys has 20% off Clearblue at the mo. I think until 25th as notice had 251108 in small print at the bottom. So let's get our BFPs 20% cheaper.

Pussin - Hope you get a BFP on your next test.

I'm trying not to symptom spot or test early this month (yeah right).

ray81 · 07/11/2008 11:03

Pussin, so what about today any more weird spotting or has it gone?

The foot is a reflexology thing and i was told about it by a friend although did have it when first started trying and remember them teeling me. The bit im talking about is below the ankle on the side of the foot just before the heel (if you know what i mean) its realy swollen and the vein right below my ankle is throbbing all the time which is so weird as have never had this before.
I think i may just be getting myself at it to be honest and am going to be V disappointed when Sodding AF arrives. I have no AF symptoms though which is unusal for me. Oh im all over the place one min confinced it has happened the next think it hasnt.

Issy, i think i may have to move to where you are if the IUI is only that much we could have lots of attempts. A retroverted womb is different from a tilted when you have a tilted womb it means that the sperm comes out easier and you have to keep legs up to keep it in there and certain postions are best but wont go into that !!! he he
I will try and take my temp next month if this month doesnt work and was also thinking of getting a spit test as they cost £20 on internet and you can use them over and over again and they tell you when you are OV.
The part of the foot is the bit below tthe ankle on the side of the foot and the vein that is throbbing is just below the ankle. its all pretty weird but probably means nothing. Negativity is back Oh dear

summermagic · 07/11/2008 18:44

Oh dear. I think we're all yo yoing between hope and despair at the moment.

I was feeling really down this morning but am now feeling a glimmer of hope as this is the second day that I have noticed weeing more than normal. No other stand out symptoms other than normal ones I would associate with PMT (sore boobs, feeling slightly sick now and again, MOODY) but weeing five times in a day (and that's with holding it in for at least half an hour til I'm properly desperate) isn't normal for me. I'm probably bloody diabetic!

God next Friday seems such a long way away. I'm going to feel seriously sh*t if all my symptom spotting is just in my head!

Ray - that spit test was £1 in Asda the other day apparently. Not sure if it is any more.

Glad your feeling better Issy.

I'm out...flo got me this am.....

Ahh well, at least I know how the bitch can play it and will be more prepared next time!!

I've not been BD'ing before ov as such due to DH being away etc so will try that this month as I think that is the key - having the sperm already there for the egg iyswim?

summermagic · 07/11/2008 20:57

Sorry to hear that Pussin. Think BDing before is definately a good idea though. My friend concieved five days before she ovulated.

Hw long have you been trying?

Have changed my mind about my weeing. I just think I'm more thirsty and I don't think I can pt that down to an early preg symptom.

See - yo-yoing. x

OP posts:
PussinJimmyWhoooos · 07/11/2008 22:16

How can you conceive before you even ovulate?? Or did she do the deed 5 days before ov???

Have been off the pill since about June so it feels like we have been trying for ages but in reality its only been a few months as I had to wait for my smear results, then DH wanted to hold off another month etc. So, not long but it feels sooooo much longer!!!

So, this sperm meets egg theory - BD'ing before ov right?? I have to watch for signs this month as have no idea now as although AF started proper this am, been having colour since Tues so not sure when to take the CD1 from iyswim? Gut feeling is telling me to take it from today...ewcm watching coming up! Joy!!!

Vics32 · 08/11/2008 17:16

Hi all, hope you don't mind me butting in on your thread. I have finished my 1st round of clomid, been scanned, had two follicles. Lots of sex and am due on next Friday (14th). Have decided it would be a good idea to buy a preg test that works 6 days early. It was negative. Someone please tell me I tested too early and there's still a chance?? Think I'll lose the plot if I have to go through all this grief again next month!! Nice to be in touch with others in the same boat
