After 18m persuading DH, we are finally (v gently ) TTc no 3.
As I am now 35, am convinced my fertility days are behind me.
Anyone in a similar position and needing to share support?

Hi - just joined after surfing the net obsessively for a few days !! This seems like the thread to join - having read it from start to the present this evening, WOW, what a rollercoaster....

I'm 38 (39 in Nov) and the body clock has been kicking in big time - for various financial / health reasons, we never started a family before but I've become desperate to try before it becomes too late as I've always wanted a family.

Well, not knowing anything much about cycles, apart from being vaguely aware mine has reduced to 28 days, I am beginning to wonder if I've been extremely lucky. Sorry, haven't got to grips with all the acronyms yet, but we did the baby dance last Friday night, which would probably have been around about mid-cycle as I think AF is due on 25th or 27th

By Tuesday, my boobs were more swollen than normal pre-menstrual swelling and my abdomen had swollen - that night, I had a massive craving for carby and sugary food, so ended up with Ben and Jerry's and a Pizza - this for the woman who has been on a permanent diet on the run-up to a holiday! I had a lime and soda in our local pub and couldn't drink it - my normal drink but it tasted really strange.

I've been sleeping badly for months, but since Monday night, have slept the night through every night and feel kind of serene and very calm. Yesterday, and today, I've felt kind of odd down below, fluttering in the uterus area. I've had bouts of diarrhea, gas, nausea and cramps three times over the past 24 hours and felt really quite dizzy and tired today, with pink spotting once and lower back pain, just on one side

It all seems far too early to me ? However, something must be up as I never even knew what all the early signs of pregnancy were before Wednesday ?

I have to confess to having bought some of those early warning tests and tried one today, just in case I had my dates wrong. Of-course, it was negative !!

I just feel a bit like I've been run over by a train - freaked out by how I've been feeling and the thought that things could have happened this quick ? Thought I'd see what you experts thought - sorry for the long post

chocciedooby · 18/07/2008 22:36

Hang in there Jools.Too early to test.Lots of symptoms there that could be pregnancy related.
You could be pregnant so wait until you are at least 10DPO (days past ovulation)and if you have past that already then wait a few days and maybe test again if you can't resist
Otherwise wait and see if your period is late.I don't have the patience for waiting that long though.
Fingers crossed for you

mummyontherun · 19/07/2008 19:41

Jools1 sounds good - and there's no reason why you shouldn't have got lucky. Your symptoms all sound much more convincing than the ones that made me think I was pg this month - for 24 hours - then this morning woke up and they'd all disappeared, so what with no implantation bleeding and feeling so back to normal, I don't think it has been my month after all

spanglemaker - you made me laugh with the Les Dawson thing - know exactly what you mean!!!

Not testing till next weekend (supposedly) though I'm sure I'll have to fight the urge to buy one of those early ones - the worst thing about them (i think) is that they only claim to be 62% accurate if you use them on the earliest day, which of course means that for 4 pregnant people, they could be wrong - so you just end up testing again ...

Trying so hard to live in the moment and enjoy th baby I was lucky enough to have at 41 (after 5 cycles so not so bad). She's 17 months old now and so lovely! This is my 5th cycle this time round (having had an mc) (and even though not superstitious at all) couldn't help thinking that it would be my month. Anyway, no need to give up hope yet - but all this racing around in your head doesn't leave much room for anything else ....

Wishing all on the thread lots and lots of luck and babydust,

SpangleMaker · 20/07/2008 18:56

Hi all!

Jools1 - your symptoms sound promising, but it's early days yet so hang in there and try not to test yet.

mummyontherun - what day are you on? I hear of lots of people who have no symptoms to speak of, so you still could be lucky! Sorry to hear of your mc.

Well, I completely ignored my own advice (and DH's) today. My temps have been pretty confusing this month - they were v low after OV (in fact I wondered if I'd ov'd at all). At 9dpo I got a big rise and FF is saying it's triphasic so I've been getting all over-excited and as I'm now 12dpo I thought I might test. DH wouldn't let me test this morning so I did it sneakily later on - BFN [he was right - grr!]

So I suppose I'm still in with a chance as it wasn't FMU but feeling very disheartened

Jools1 · 20/07/2008 19:12

Hi

Well patience was wearing thin this morning, so I tried one of those early tests - BFN !

I am guessing that I am around 10 dpo but that is only a guess !

No more symptoms since Friday, other than incredibly sore boobs and a bit of dizziness today when I was bending down doing the weeding ! I had to leave an aerobics class today because they hurt too much, even wearing a good sports bra and have never had it like that before.

Don't know what to think really, but having read about these early tests, I'm not sure I even want to test again. I think AF is probably due on Friday, so maybe I'll take a couple of tests to Spain with me and try then.

I have learnt soooo much from this site already. Everyone is soooo friendly and helpful

SpangleMaker · 20/07/2008 19:19

Not to worry Jools, you ARE early on, and the sore boobs sound v promising! It's such a horrible feeling, isn't it, getting a BFN. I do try not to test but I'm just too impatient for my own good!

flowerfairy · 20/07/2008 20:45

OK i have some questions now-if anyone is there?
HAve been experiencing these stomach cramps for the last 4 days. They're not just in my lower stomach but in my back as well, occasionally take my breath away. keep coming and going. Started to wonder if they are related to ovulation, but don't think so now. HAve bd over last weekend and this weekend, am 23dpo. Had been pretty much 30 day cycle bang on, last month was 37 day cycle, ie-was a week late and did kind of get excited that i maybe pg, but af came. Had these exact same pains last month.
Am beginning to wonder if they are a little more suspicious than just normal cramps. Though maybe i'm just trying to find a reason i haven't conceived yet.

SpangleMaker · 20/07/2008 21:20

Hmmm you don't know when you ovulated do you? It could be related to ovulation, if you were headed for a 37 day cycle, it'd be around the right time, though I thought ov pain is usually only 1 or 2 days - or at least mine is. Sounds a bit early in your cycle to be pg related, but you never know. Or could they be digestion-related?

summerbird · 20/07/2008 22:05

Welcome Dharma, i have been TTC for 5 months now, and my doctor is really supportive. I think you should just explain your history over last 8 months and also what your previous doctor said. If they consider 8 months to be long enough to go for tests then i would hope new doc would suggest referring you.

mind you i went for tests for chronic period pains a couple of months ago, i went for a scan at the local hospital which was bizarre as i really just wanted to be getting scanned for the usual reason! anyway she looked at my ovaries and said my left one was bigger than the right, when i asked her what that meant she said 'oh nothing serious, could be anything....' thankfully i have been checked out privately since (got free insurance at work - am not rich )and am fine. let us know how you get on

spanglemaker - how cold has Manchester been this weekend??!! i had friends from London up to stay and they were borrowing jumpers and socks from me!!

summerbird · 20/07/2008 22:10

oops i just realised i missed out on a whole page before replying, i agree with spanglemaker stand your ground with new GP

and hello jools1 keep us posted, i would wait until AFs due date, easier said than done i know but the tests are rarely accurate before hand

DarrellRivers · 21/07/2008 09:20

Welcome everyone.
Try to hold off as long as possible before you test, the preg test manufacturers are laughing all the way to the bank if you test so early.
D25 here.
Am determined not to test until at least next monday which would be D32. Although period will probably arrive first.
And next month is looking complicated with 2 on-call weekends surrounding the ovulation window
So who is next due to test?

OP posts:
Jools1 · 21/07/2008 11:31

Well if AF IS due, then I'm in for a bad one - I have NEVER EVER had mood swings this bad ! I really thought I was going to throw something at my DP last night ! Have been in floods of tears half the morning for no reason at all..

Gotta be a good sign I hope

flowerfairy · 21/07/2008 12:12

I know it would be far too early for symptoms, but i've been sick this morning and would like to think that it was a good sign but highly unlikely. Still having these cramping pains in my lower stomach and back. Really fed up, mum says i should go to the gp if i think there is something more sinister to it. Know i'm just trying to link anything to being pg am so desparate today.

SpangleMaker · 21/07/2008 12:45

Flowerfairy hope you feel better soon (or find out you're pg)

Darrell - you are so right about the pg test manufacturers, I was thinking exactly the same thing this morning when I did a test - BFN
CB digital as well - silly me.

Just spent over £25 on First Response and ov sticks for next month and feeling more than a little fed up.

flowerfairy · 21/07/2008 13:18

{{{Big hugs}}} spanglemaker (though keeping distance in case it is a bug)

TTCis pretty crap. It seems such a simple thing and its just not. FF goes into rant about how unfair it is when x has a baby etc, etc.

Sorry it does help to unburden somtmes though doesn't it.

Am already planning when next ov date might beif af arrives on time.

chocciedooby · 21/07/2008 13:58

I'm only on day 6 and its dragging

Good Luck Flower Fairy.Hope you find out you're pregnant.

SpangleMaker · 21/07/2008 18:26

Thanks flowerfairy - yes it does help to vent! Has your sister had her baby? Hope that it's not too difficult for you (and for her, obviously!)

Am sitting back and waiting for AF to arrive now... not much chance a CB digital and a distinct lack of symptoms (apart from mild backache, a new one) are wrong.

Good luck to those of you waiting to test

DarrellRivers · 21/07/2008 19:43

spangles
hope you feel better soon ff, and yes, has your sister had her baby yet?

OP posts:
flowerfairy · 21/07/2008 19:51

Sister been induced today but has been throwing up when they've put the drip in so perhaps i just have a bug. No baby yet probably around midnight. though the cramps have not gone and was only sick the once.
FF finds the straws and clutches fiercely at them.

Lionstar · 21/07/2008 20:58

Sounds like lots of ups and downs since I last posted. Sadly I have my own downer to add, AF arrived last night - caught me on the hop because it was a couple of days early. Feeling quite down cos I'd had a few possible symptoms, some cramping, one morning feeling queasy etc. DP was even keeping DD out of my hair, saying 'Mummy's pregnant' .
I know it was expecting a bit much to get lucky first time round, I can't imagine what emotions must be like when you get to the 7th or 8th cycle or beyond.
Wishing everyone else out there better luck.

SpangleMaker · 21/07/2008 22:27

Lionstar - it's depressing whatever cycle you're on, I know I was pretty miserable the first couple of months. Am just getting a bit weary of the whole thing now, it's taking up so much time and energy, not to mention my hard-earned cash lining the pockets of Clear Blue shareholders (note to self - CB/FR shares most certainly out-performing the rest of the stock market)

Better luck for next cycle, I'm sure it won't take you too long.

SlippersAndPipe · 22/07/2008 07:53

Wow - lots going on since I last posted. Great to be on a thread with loads of chat and support.

FF - hope you are feeling better (or it's pg symptoms). Good luck to your dsis.

Lionstar and Spangle

Sorry to those of you with BFN and arrival of AF. It's just a matter of time here - due in the next couple of days.

Since ttc, why have I all of a sudden been experiences sore boobs? It really gets my hopes up as I rarely get PMT or associated. Had really sore boobs this last couple of days but it's just the same as last month, when along came AF on time. I guess you're more aware of your body and cling on to anything....

Nearly added a preg test to my shopping this week - the tempation was so strong. But I know if I have them in the house, I'll go through them really quickly £££. THink I'll try follow Darrell and not buy one / test until AF at least 3 or 4 days late.

flowerfairy · 22/07/2008 11:01

sister had a 9lb6oz baby boy this morning after a very induction. She had him naturally, after epidural and ventouse. Now she has an infection. so treating her and baby with antibiotics.

Feeling less queasy today, but can't stand thought of coffee. That's one of my few vices usually. Really am not hopeful though that these are signs as i've been here before.

summerbird · 22/07/2008 13:33

Congrats to your sister flowerfairy that is lovely news.

oo i am thinking you are having symptoms - i love coffee and never go off the smell of it........ fingers crossed

hope everyone is well today, i have just taken my PG friend to New look to have a look at maternity clothes, i almost bought a really pretty top but stopped myself as i dont want to be a manic obsessive wannabe PGer!

DarrellRivers · 22/07/2008 13:42

Congrats to your sister FF.
I am starting to go slowly crazy now, DPO 10, CD 26 gggrrgggh.
I want so badly to be pregnant.
And it is most likely ie 80% likely that I will not be.
Only sore boobs.
Much prefer the first 2 weeks, whne there is less pressure and everything to play for as someone else so succinctly put it.
Support all around really from me.
This is when I really need MN, thanks
