After 18m persuading DH, we are finally (v gently ) TTc no 3.
As I am now 35, am convinced my fertility days are behind me.
Anyone in a similar position and needing to share support?

Oh God FF, you've rumbled me.
One spare in my bag.
Burning a whole in my pocket.

At least you are cheering me up, sister has just gone to hospital, after sobbing down the phone about how fed up she was tonight then her water broke. If only that were me...

Have also been for smear today (polishes halo) didn't know whether it was the odne thing with ttc. She didn't seem to bothered when i said i didn't know. Did you know they use plastic speculums now and a brush? The nurse never stopped chatting about howsmear test has changed.

flowerfairy · 16/07/2008 20:55

I'll keep your secret. Ssh.. (looks around to check no-one is llistening) I have 2 hidden under my bed. Eeek. But 99%certain won't even have to take the cellophane off this month just in case.

I saw on the telly last night 1 that lets you test 6 days early-that's just asking for trouble surely?

flowerfairy · 16/07/2008 21:02

Thanks dr i'm off to make my sandwiches ready for tomorrow and get ready for bed or maybe i'll try to seduce dh, though i don't think talking with a blocked nose and croaky voice is much of aturn on!!! Maybe if we turn off the lights and i keep quiet it might help.

chocciedooby · 16/07/2008 21:43

Hi ladies.Can I join in?
Been ttc dc3 for 5 months.Starting to feel a bit down now as got my AF this morning
Cycle went a bit off since April.Think I had a "chemical pregnancy" then.
Really thought it was my month this time as have been following cycle closely and times BD just right etc.
I am 37 and am beginning to wonder if it will ever happen. I have fallen into all the obsessive traps of OPK's and early testing etc.I have loads of tests in the house from ebay.
I have just been through my diary AGAIN and reckon I ovulated on CD15. Now on CD1.
I have never in my life suffered from pmt sore boobs or nausea but ever since I have been following my cycle and ttc I have!

DarrellRivers · 16/07/2008 21:51

welcome chocolateddbie
goodnight ff,and good luck to your sister

chocciedooby · 16/07/2008 21:58

Thanks dr.
I have been trying to persuade dh for months now that we should have another dc. Tbh he is still not too pushed about having dc3 and is happy with dc's 4.8 and 3.4.
He has however had no problem dropping all methods of contraception over the last few months so I have decided to interpret that as a green light .
I have made it quite clear to dh of the times that I am fertile and he just doesn't care (as long as gets his leg over) so who am I to complain?!
It does however make conception a little more difficult if I go on too much about wanting another dc. he says I am trying to "trap him"???!!!!We have been married for 7 yrs!Very confusing .....

SpangleMaker · 16/07/2008 22:22

welcome chocciedooby
men are funny creatures. If he knows about the lack of contraception then he's as good as a willing partner in my book. Couldn't understand my DH for ages - he seemed totally uninterested in the TTC process (apart from the fun bit), so much so I kept asking him if he was sure he did want a DC. He assured me he did, he just couldn't get obsessed over it. He's more interested now, I think he's finally getting impatient after 7 months!

Darrell, Flowerfairy - can I join your confession club? I have 2 CB digital tests still in my drawer after 2 months {smug emoticon} but I bought some Poundsaver tests the other day so I can merrily test away without feeling guilty

jaype · 16/07/2008 22:34

Ah well, back to CD1 today... didn't think there was any hope, tbh. Still, evil PMT with nausea seems to have given up this month so there is a silver lining

chocciedooby · 16/07/2008 23:07

Hey Jaype you are on the same cycle as me, CD1!It seems such a long time before we reach ovulation time!

DarrellRivers · 17/07/2008 08:55

chocciedooby, your DH does sound similar to mine, although initially he wouldn't go with the idea of using no contraception and seeing what would happen
He has agreed finally now, so I don't even mention it, in case he changes his mind!
He thinks I am mad to even think about a 3rd.
CD21 here, so holding on tight and keeping busy.
sorry jaype , roll on next cycle and sspangles, keep those test locked away

jaype · 17/07/2008 15:10

Just as well I'm not as we're moving house tomorrow and the stress wouldn't do it any good... We're going about 250 miles and our removals company have suddenly gone awol, can't get hold of them on the phone at all to confirm it . Getting very, very nervous...

flowerfairy · 17/07/2008 22:23

Jaype -perhaps with your move then you can put that old saying to the test. hope all goes well.

sister sent home from hospital they think it was the remains of her show??!! She will be induced monday if the baby doesn't put an appearance in first.

Feeling very pessimistic about 2ww, have had these cramping pains in stomach but i'm beginning to wonder if this is ovulation, as i''ve noticed the same pains over the last few months. opk have been useless, dh looks like he couldn't care about sex tonight and i feel abit tired myself after fighting this cold off. Cycle seems to have gone abit mad after last month of being a week late. So as is said last night i can't see anything happening for the next month either due to camping. Oh well, my main worry is that ds will have too large a gap between him and other(if i ever get pg) and not get on. (Yet again ff kicks herself for leaving it too long and not doing the deed wen dh suggested 2 years ago).

summerbird · 17/07/2008 22:28

I havent even ovulated yet this month, blimey the first half of the month is sooooo slow dont you think? I reckon i should OV next week, then the 2WW, wake me up in 3 weeks time!!

flowerfairy · 17/07/2008 22:32

It's a pain isn't it summerbird.
I son't know whether i have or not opk says no (though i'm not very reliable at doing it everyday). Just have like these funny cramps where it's almost feels like contractions, also feel a bit sick, and then other pains come and go in stomach too.

I really msut stop this obsession over my bodily functions, maybe i will if i ever get pregnant. Then there will be something new to obsess over. LOL

christie2 · 17/07/2008 22:33

I had 2 babies before 35 and 4 babies after 35 the last at 44 so you are fine. Only thing to keep in mind is the risk of miscarriage goes up after age 40 (I had 2 after 40) but at age 34, you shoudl be fine.

christie2 · 17/07/2008 22:33

Sorry, meant 35 (hard to type with a baby sleeping on my chest).

flowerfairy · 17/07/2008 22:35

Thanks for the positive story christie2. We all need to have some reasons to feel optimistic. A bit of summer sunshine would help too. Where the is summer?

flowerfairy · 17/07/2008 22:36

Aah I love that image christie2 when they are so peaceful and contented. Thanks again. Goodnight

summerbird · 18/07/2008 09:02

wow christie2 that is a lovely story! and as for the baby on your chest - aaaahhhhhh x

i am not doing any temperatures or tests or anything, just relying on my instinct. I know exactly when i ovulate, i am like clockwork, i get that stabbing appenix type pain in the side 2 weeks in, no other symptoms though.

flowerfairy i totally agree with you, i am in Manchester where the sun never shines, am in work with a brolly, coat and thick tights - in July!!

mummyontherun · 18/07/2008 09:45

Summerbird - you made me wonder when you said first half is so sloooow, whether I prefer that part of the month or the 2WW?

I like the feeling that its all to play for in the first two weeks, whereas in the 2WW the obsession tends to get a bit out of control - eg 10 trips to loo to check for implantation bleeding in one morning!!! Frequent checks of nipples for colour change, (I mean, as if I could spot the difference!!!) all that sort of thing.

Any others want to confess?

summerbird · 18/07/2008 12:31

actually you do have a point, it is a bit of a free for all the first 2 weeks, like a fresh start! thanks you have made me more postitive about that bit!!

SpangleMaker · 18/07/2008 13:48

I've got to the point where I 'prefer' the first two weeks too, at least I can plan BDing and I feel more chilled out. First day of AF I'm in the dumps but by the 2nd or 3rd day I'll be chirpy again. The 2WW seems to stretch out forever and when, like now (CD24 of 28), I get to the last few days I can't think of anything else!

mummyontherun, I've done all the same things as you, plus obsessive googling of whatever this month's symptom is. Oh and I am alwas 'discreetly' pressing my boobs (a la Les Dawson) or prodding them to check for soreness, to the point I'm sure I've made them sore myself!

There's an excellent website for obsessing over symptoms, twoweekwait.com or similar [sorry I shouldn't be encouraging you ]

Summerbird, I work in Manchester too, grim today isn't it?

dharma · 18/07/2008 14:23

Hi there
new to this thread - TTC no.2 for last 8 months with no joy. Got AF yday, after being convinced I was pg. (as I am every month!)
Quick bit of info for some of you tho - about 5 months ago, went to doc's for something else and she did a blood test and found out that my thyroid was underperforming - she said this could be a major reason why I was not getting pg. I did not have any symptoms (except not being able to lose weight easily) so best to get yourselves checked out.

Anyway, my question is how do I get help with TTC from (new) doctor now cos I know that if I go in, the first thing they do is send you away saying 'if nothing happens in the next 2 months, then come back etc...' and I just want to get going with some kind of help now...

Any advice would be helpful.

thanks

SpangleMaker · 18/07/2008 18:42

Hello dharma,
bad luck on AF arriving

I don't know how old you are, but I heard that for women over 35, doctors like to see couples who have gone 6 months without conceiving, so at 8 months you are over that.

I think you just need to stand your ground, say you have already been trying for 8 months and fail to see how waiting any longer can help. If you have any info on your cycles, days you've ovulated/BD'd, take that with you. I think some GPs default to assuming the patient is completely ignorant! If you show you know what you are talking about they'll be more inclined to listen.

I've not been to my GP yet, though have agreed with DH if I'm not pg after next month we will go. I have been recording everything since I stopped the Pill nearly a year ago and have been charting the last few months, so I plan to bring along a folder with all my charts and data (obsessive, moi? )

Interesting about the thyroid issue, I'll look into that one.

Good luck
