TTC Active Letrozole Thread

Struggling to find an active Letrozole thread. Recently been prescribed Letrozole as I have low progesterone and signs of ovulation not being as effective as it could be, albeit I still ovulate on my own.

Would love to hear success stories or chat to people who are going through TTC with letrozole now x

I only go for one scan per cycle at £200 and thought that’s pricey 😹 We considered taking a break in December but perhaps I’ll do the same with the tablets I have left. Also my husband finds knowing exactly when we have to DTD due to trigger quite intense! 🫣

They wanted me to do a day 2 scan to clear me to start the tablets then I was back day 8 and day 10 and was given the trigger injection then they wanted bloods each time too which was around 140 and a scan to confirm ovulation . One cycle I had one less scan as day 10 fell on a Saturday so they did it a day early which worked out better price wise . It’s just too much to keep doing that way

KeepingFaith0505 · 12/11/2024 16:24

Hi All!

this is my first post on here so bare with as I’ve been a silent reader of so many discussions for so long whilst awaiting to start fertility treatment with the NHS.

I started taking 5mg of letrozole this cycle from days 2-6. I finished my period/end of period spotting on about CD10 and I had my first follicle scan on CD11 (yesterday) and the nurse informed me that I have 2 follicles measuring to 11mm each on my right side but none in my left. She’s told me to come in again on CD15 to monitor any growth. I’ve been testing my LH levels and got a big circle on a clear blue digital test and my easy@home tests have also been low. I mean that’s completely understandable as my follicles are only 11mm. I guess I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this? I was quite discouraged to be fair as I’ve read a lot of people responding and getting 18/22mm follicles.

it’s so hard to not stress when you’re going through all of this. I do my best to have faith and keep soldiering on but at times can find myself going a bit crazy! I’ve had PCOS since I was about 14/15 and I’m now 28 so it’s definitely been a while.

any responses would be greatly appreciated 🩷 wishing you all the best and babydust in your journeys!

BreakfastOats · 12/11/2024 18:54

@KeepingFaith0505 CD11 is early! There’s still time for your follicles to grow so I’d keep testing if I were you! Also, Letrozole has a cumulative effect for some so if you need more rounds, your follicle growth might change. This is a really emotional journey but time is on your side as you’re still very young. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you xx

KeepingFaith0505 · 12/11/2024 21:01

Thank you so much @BreakfastOats you have no idea how much your reply meant to me! I will try my best to keep staying positive and praying these 2 little follicles grow 🩷

Hope all is going well with you on your journey! How was your day today?

BreakfastOats · 12/11/2024 21:49

That’s so nice to hear, thanks for being so kind 💛@KeepingFaith0505

I feel a bit under the weather today tbh 😣 Waiting for AF to arrive anytime so not a good combination for my mood 😂

You need to let me know how your tests and scan go x

KeepingFaith0505 · 13/11/2024 13:38

Hey @BreakfastOats

I hope you are feeling better today! When is AF due to arrive and will you be starting a round of let? (Fingers crossed it doesn’t arrive!!!!)

I will update you on how my scan goes on Friday 🥹 so nice to have someone to update to be honest. I tested my LH today and still a bit low but as I have insanely long cycles I think I will hopefully ovulate next week rather than this week!

BreakfastOats · 13/11/2024 20:43

I feel better today thank you @KeepingFaith0505
I’m on CD24 and my cycles are never longer than 28 days.

Next step for us is our ICSI consent appointment. Our circumstances are different than yours though! Keep testing and hope your next scan goes well xx

KeepingFaith0505 · 15/11/2024 21:55

Hey @BreakfastOats I hope you have been doing well the past couple of days. What are the next steps for you guys?

I had my scan today and I’m a little more lost but hopeful. They could see some follicles on both my ovaries 3/4 all around 11mm-12mm. However, yesterday when I tested my LH on the clear blue digital ovulation stick, I got a flashing smiley face in the morning! I was quite shocked l, I have been feeling some cramps here and there but they felt like normal cramps. I tested again later in the benign and got a peak fertility smiley so I was even more shocked but got busy! I mentioned this all to the nurse and she said that she could see a collapsed follicle and showed me this as well. She said that would mean in correlation to my ovulation tests that the follicle has released an egg! But he couldn’t see any ‘free fluid’. I think though all this news is positive I’m just a bit more confused because in my head I thought I was going to find out if my follicle was even big enough to ovulate. I’m not sure if my small follicle has collapsed or if it matured enough. Anyway, I’ve been given a blood test label for my CD21 bloods so that will tell me for sure if I ovulated or not.

We will just have to see! Thanks for being a safe space for me to vent 🤍

BreakfastOats · 16/11/2024 09:21

@KeepingFaith0505 This all sounds really positive! You’re definitely in the right hands as you are getting the ultrasounds you need to monitor growth and a progesterone test to confirm ovulation. Combined with the ovulation tests you do, you have everything covered! Great progress in a space of a few days, hope you get some good news after the progesterone test Xx

pumpkinpatches22 · 12/12/2024 14:05

Joining this thread! First cycle with Letrozole and feel really confused.

Took 5mg CD2-6 but have had spotting all the way through. Went in for follicle scan on CD10 (Monday) and they could see 3 x follicles on my left ovary. One was 23mm, one was 19mm and one was 17mm. I don't think they were expecting to see so many, and so matured so early and I think they thought it could be cysts.

They took my bloods and called me the same day to say that my blood tests showed I was already starting to surge (?) and to DTD tuesday, thursday, Saturday. They said that I didn't need to come in for a repeat scan on Wednesday (CD12) as my follicles were already mature, and my body seemed to be surging.

I did a LH test and it was darker but not peak so was expecting to see it get darker over the next few days and maybe peak on wednesday or today but if anything its getting lighter. I had some EWCM on Monday and Tuesday and I noticed that my spotting seemed to stop almost completely on Tuesday which then resumed again yesterday. Tomorrow is CD14 and not feeling hopeful at all.

I spoke to the clinic today who said that looking at my scans and bloods it didn't look like I had ovulated at that point (CD10) as my progesterone was still low and they would do progesterone test on monday next week to see if they can confirm ovulation or if not they would have to do a baseline scan on day 2 of my next period to check and see if what they thought were follicles were just cysts.

I just find it all so stressful as it looked as if my body had responded super well and I was expecting to at least see some progression on LH strips and to confirm ovulation but now it just seems like my body just can't muster enough LH to actually ovulate. I've asked the clinic about getting a trigger shot but doubt they will at this stage. Just annoyed they said I didn't need to do another scan and they've only done one - as I feel I would have got more answers with more monitoring.

All I can think is that I got my surge on Sunday night/Monday morning and the blood tests picked it up on the way down but when it was still high - but I hadn't ovulated at that point and maybe I ovulated some point between Monday and Tuesday? We DTD Monday night and Tuesday morning so hopefully if thats the case we caught it.

Otherwise can't understand why I would have 3 good size follicles and my body doesn't seem to want to do surge or these are just cysts which would be so upsetting.

Just looking for some reassurance/hope/similar stories as I just feel so overwhelmed with it all.

Hi everyone, I hope everyone had a good and stress free Christmas.

Update from me - started back on Letrozole on December after a 2 month break ( just needed a rest mentally) and triggered on December 11th with 3 follicles on the right hand side 20mm and 12mm.

Got a BFP on 25th, and still resetting positive although have not been able to get blood drawn due to my Dr being closed over Cmas and NY.

I'm very cautious due to an early MMC in July , I also turned 40 in September so just praying for this to stick but just wanted to share a bit of positive news with you guys that it can work even after months of trying

Hey! That's amazing news, I am crossing everything for you that it'll stick! I am a big believer in manifestation so I'm manifesting it for you! Lovely to hear positive news though 🥰

Thank you! Just trying to get on with it over new year although understandably cautious 😬

Hi all,

How is everyone getting on? This is my second cycle of letrozole, I’m now right within my fertile window (had a positive LH test yesterday!) so looking to hear experiences from others.

Sidfe effects have been okay, mainly nausea, lack of appetite and ovulation pain.

I’m CD13 now, managed to dtd yesterday and hoping for today and tomorrow, although finding it hard as my DH is working a lot. Hoping we catch this time 🤞

Heey!

That's really exciting that you got a positive LH! Crossing everything for you!

I'm on my 3rd round and every cycle has been completely different for me! I triggered on Thursday and dtd Thursday and yesterday and had mega ovulation pain yesterday (very normal for me) so here's hoping it's the month we both get BFPs 🤞🏻

SCK2024 · 09/02/2025 20:22

Does the GP prescribe letrozole or clomid?

Who do they decide is suitable for this?

I’ve had bloods done, all okay I think, progesterone results come back tomorrow from GP.

we can’t get IVF on the NHS as we both have children from previous relationships and have conceived just over a year ago, but it didn’t go ahead 😓

Just in need of some information

✨✨

Feel a bit out of place here because all the posts I seem to see are from the females perspective 😅 but anyway me and my girlfriend have been trying for a couple of years now but just about to finish round 6 of 2.5mg letrozole. She has ovulated so that dosage has worked for her, she also had 1 follicle measuring 17mm, I think it was.. but so far no positive.
The fertility clinic haven’t been the most helpful with questions so just wondering if anyone could answer a few on here.

  1. Do you think asking to up the dosage would be helpful to make a bigger follicle? Or do you think they will still suggest more 2.5mg while that had ‘worked’ previously.

  2. and also the follicle checks where done alternate months so could 1 ovary not be responding to the letrozole while the other does, making every other month effectively ‘pointless’

thanks for any help and sorry for the long ramble!

With a history of miscarriage
And normally ovulating on my own

I did 3 cycles of letrozole
To get me to ' super ovulate '

( didnt concieve )

Uk based ivf / fertility consultant advised me to get hyfosy

Went private as faster than 4 month wait on nhs

Hyfosy showed blocked tubes
Now doing IVF
Has she ever been assesed for endometriosis ?
Has she had an NHS gp
Ca125 blood test ?

I recommend a hyfosy to see if tubes blocked

UTFT · 25/02/2025 10:09

Thanks for the reply. Sorry I’m not 100% clued up on what exactly she has and hasn’t had done.
she has had a hycosy test, but not hyfosy, not sure if it’s a similar thing? That came back ok and she has had blood tests done, but not sure what that was for but all came back ok.
I think at the minute were still stuck in the place of it being unexplained. I also have had a sample checked and that came back ok too.

I know that when she was younger and first started her period they was really painful and uncomfortable so she was put on the pill from young to help with that, so after being on it consistently for the last 15 years we wondered if it was just taking a while for her body to re-adjust but now we’ve been trying for about 3 years.
She’s just been and picked up her last few tablets of letrozole for the last cycle but they’ve given her a new box of 28, so she’s half tempted to next time just upping the dosage to 5mg herself for a month and trying it, probably daft thing to do, but the desperation does this to you, doesn’t it!

If it were me, I’d up the dose. It might mean that instead of just one follicle, she could have 2 or 3? Meaning there’s more bullseyes to hit haha!

Obviously you should always listen to the medical professionals but me personally I always make my own decisions lol.

Best of luck to you both x

secondtimelucky87 · 25/02/2025 15:21

Hi can I join? I'm 2dpo after my first round of Letrozole 5mg for secondary infertility. I will be doing 3 rounds as it's relatively affordable and I was advised against IVF, which I can't afford anyway! I did a double trigger shot on cd12 with 3 follicles (dominant one was 18mm on cd11). Really hoping this is our miracle. I ovulate on my own but have been trying 2 years for a sibling and tried 3 years for my first. It is all very isolating. Seems I responded well to the Letrozole so now I just need to stay positive. Is anyone else in the TWW?? Would be nice to have some company for the wait or hear of any success stories 😊

Yeah that’s exactly what we’ve both been thinking/hoping that taking the extra tablet a day will hopefully either cause the one follicle to be stronger or make there be more follicles. , obviously the doctor would probably say upping the dose ourselves isn’t smart, but we’re at the point now we’re we just think do we risk it and just try it.

Thank you!

Oh no gutted for you. Wishing you all the baby dust for this new chapter. How did you know your tubes were blocked are there any symptoms of this? Ngl Its often on my mind whether I am in the same situation going to go through a few cycles of letrozole too and then ivf will be on the cards for me too
