Clomid TTC

lucymc11 · 21/07/2022 13:14

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

I did however read that if clomid is successful you’ll have your period CD 27-30 or a successful pregnancy so 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Jadeybabes86

Right So basically ive waited 3 years for gp to transfer me to a gynae only for gynae to send me back to gp and now gp has to referr me on again to gynae haha you couldnt make this crap up .

Gp wasn't much help either . It was a stand in doctor. As I thought, shes not willing to prescribe me anything to bring on a bleed as that's not her field of expertise and that's why I was referred on in the first place. She said she dosent know much about clomid and if it's ok to mix clomid with the likes of provera /Norethisterone ect without interactions so gynae will have to be the one to deal with it as she's the specialist. She's going to contact them to see what's going on as i made it very clear they prescribed me something I can't even take then abandoned me. She'll phone me on Thursday with an update . She thought it was very odd why gynae are passing me back to gp as that shouldn't be happening if I've already been sent on.

I might try switching brands of inositol as I've been doing some research and it seems some women can't make the conversion and require d chiro inositol in combination with myo In order to process it in the body and vice versa if you take d chiro inositol and don't need it, it imbalances the ratio and can mess you up. It's hard to know which I might require so I'm going to try switching it up and see if I can find one that maybe works

Well I'm crossing my fingers for you anyway that this month you'll have a successful cycle

Can anybody who has taken Clomid help me with side effects:

Is it normal for my nipples to be bright pink, hard and super painful?
Is it normal to have really bad abdominal pain/pain during sex in CD16 of Clomid?

For context: I am on CD18 and my first cycle of Clomid. I felt quite ropy for the 5 days I was taking it and then had almost no symptoms. On CD16 I had really bad abdominal pain all day, I have Endo and thought I was coming on my period as the pain was so extreme. We DTD that night because we had to (every other day per Drs orders) and it was agony. I was going to call 111/my clinic if the pain didn’t let up by the morning, but it had disappeared by the time I woke up on CD17. Instead - my nipples were rock hard, bright pink and really painful. I have a medium skin tone, so they are usually brown and not at all pink. They are also naturally quite little/flat - but they are so big you can see them through my bra and top!! Is this normal??

Jadeybabes86 · 10/08/2022 01:03

@MK85 so sorry to hear you’ve been passed around and messed around it’s so good you have these forums otherwise god knows where you’d be in the hands of “specialists” don’t give up or let them fob you off as is the case with the NHS at the moment ☹️

yes deffo try a different brand they recommend a good 2-3 months for it to get into your system but I can honestly say the myo one is fab and alway low stock so must work for others just as well, even my body and facial hair growth has slowed slightly

thank you for your well wishes I was due on my period today latest and nothing pointing towards that happening which is disappointing in a way cos it says if you are responding to clomid you’ll either be pregnant or have your period 27-30 days of your cycle but we all know our PCOS bodies make their own rules 🙄

don’t let them push you aside or fob you off I’m with the gynea under NHS and they said to me if you don’t have a bleed we can give you something as you need to carry on the cycles xxx

Jadeybabes86 · 10/08/2022 01:09

@KittyWitty Im on my 1st cycle and from taking the 5th tablet I’ve had vaginal and weird pains in that region not agonising like yours but more a dull ache or pulling pain which makes me worry I have OHSS but maybe I’m reading too much online? I was due a period today but that hasn’t happened and no signs pointing towards one on the way or any pregnancy symptoms plus two neg tests ☹️ I didn’t get any results from the ovulation sticks either they never seemed as dark or darker than the indication one!

i started mine on cycle day 2 and was advised to DTD every other day which we have done all the way through this month pretty much just to give it a good chance. I have noticed the pains/pulling more after not during sex though

hope this helps xxx

Jadeybabes86 · 10/08/2022 01:13

@KittyWitty the cramping is you ovulating which is a good sign and also clomid can give you signs of pregnancy such as tender breasts and nipples so it seems as though your body is reacting well to the treatment

best of luck to you I have my fingers and toes crossed 😊

Finally got prescribed provera but now the real challenge is getting it from the pharmacy.
Any of you other ladies had any success getting it yet ?
Quite concerned about starting one month of clomid then not being able to continue because of the shortage.
Gp only prescribed me one month of provera then said if I need it next month to ring them and they'll give me another prescription

Oh great, glad you got the prescription! I had no luck so gave up and am still waiting for my period ☹️

@MK85 most pharmacies will order it in for you if they don’t have it in or they’ll check with near by pharmacies and let your know if they have it so it shouldn’t be a huge challenge

good luck on your 1st cycle, keep us posted!!

im on cycle day 37 no sign of aunt flow (af) or pregnancy (done 3 tests ☹️) so I’m assuming I didn’t ovulate this cycle! Apparently when you have PCOS the ovulation tests aren’t affective so that could be why I didn’t get a positive ovulation test but I won’t know until the next cycle when I’ll get a 21 day blood test to see if I’ve ovulated

pleased you’ve been prescribed the Provera xxx

Hoping43 · 14/08/2022 07:38

@Jadeybabes86 im on cd 41. Waiting to make 100% sure I’m not pregnant before starting my norethisterone but frustrated as my natural cycles are 28-34 days. I’ve done 4 negative pregnancy tests but because we carried on trying til day 34 I need to a pregnancy test in another week. So annoying x

KittyWitty · 14/08/2022 08:43

@Jadeybabes86 Thank you! I am hoping and praying for a BFP next week. My sister has just announced she is pregnant and I can’t help but hope we could be pregnant together! But at the same time, 2+ years of no luck has made me a bit reluctant to hope anymore.

Jadeybabes86 · 14/08/2022 13:21

@Hoping43 aw so we’re practically the same then, I don’t have anything to bring on a bleed as I didn’t think I’d need anything, since taking myova my periods were becoming regular i couldn’t put a cycle day on them but they were between 4-6 weeks apart which is good for me, disheartened to not be pregnant or on my period right now as in either case it’s an indication the medication didn’t work 😩

we’re the same we carried on DTD all month long 😂

Jadeybabes86 · 14/08/2022 13:22

@KittyWitty my sister has just given birth to her 4th child I can’t help but feel jealous

MK85 · 14/08/2022 14:50

@Jadeybabes86
I think the shortage lies with manufacturers. As far as I'm aware there's an issue with sourcing one of the components they use in those medications so they arent able to produce more. Pfizer make provera and apparently they continously limit the amount of supply uk receive . They said it'll be a few more months before they expect to resume manufacturing which feels like a lifetime . Its the height of summer holidays which probably dosent help as demand is so high from people wanting it to delay their period

KittyWitty · 14/08/2022 15:59

@Jadeybabes86 this will be her second - in the same time period that I’ve been trying for. I’m over the moon for her, but also so unbelievably jealous.

It doesn’t help that last night hubby said he hoped I could hurry up and get pregnant so we can have babies at the same time - apparently I’m not trying hard enough!

Hoping43 · 14/08/2022 16:14

@Jadeybabes86 are you getting something to bring your period on? Yeah I’m just annoyed 😂 as I ovulate myself I didn’t expect to not ovulate on letrozole and I wish we had stopped trying earlier so I could just get on with the norethisterone but I daren’t as it’s only been 7 days since so I feel I need to do another test next week to be sure as the instructions clearly say you can’t take it if you’re pregnant (not that I think I am for even one second!!).

are you unexplained infertility?

lucymc11 · 14/08/2022 19:00

@KittyWitty @Jadeybabes86 my brother and sister in law are having their first baby together after ... conceiving of their first month of TTC. Same as you both, I'm really happy for them but it does hurt going to the gender reveal, baby shower, buying baby clothes/gifts for them.

MK85 · 14/08/2022 20:31

It's so hard isn't it, that pain of trying to look happy on the outside for others having a baby when your dying with envy and sadness inside .
I've really struggled with that balance. So much to the extent of distancing myself from friends as its been so hard watching them fall pregnant from one night stands or so soon after meeting someone.
Hubbys brother and girlfriend had a baby and within 2 months of giving birth she was pregnant again. Unbelievable. Yet here we are , we've not used protection In 17 years and not even once have I got pregnant.
Theres a real baby boom right now too. Everyone around me right now seems to be pregnant
Don't know about you ladies but one thing I hear so often from people is " your so lucky you don't have kids" that shit really drives me up the wall

Ldougal92 · 17/08/2022 16:17

Hi ladies! How are you all doing? I have a few questions for you (on my first clomid cycle and having a cynical clomid won't work day - helpful I know and getting myself wound up)

  1. When you started ovulation tests did you find they went up and down. 1 minutes i'm .1 then .5 then back down to .3 - is this normal?
  2. When did you ovulate when you took clomid? I am on cycle day 11 and pretty sure I am just getting impatient on the fact that I haven't ovulated yet? I haven't had any symptoms yet and usually have sore boobs if I ovulate.
  3. When did you start DTD? I started on day 10 does this sound too early?
Sorry for all the questions, but I am going through this unmonitored (not sure if this is normal for London) but is making me feel a little alone without anyone to turn to with all my questions.

Thank you
x

KittyWitty · 17/08/2022 18:12

@Ldougal92 Hello!

I am on CD26 of my first clomid cycle (so waiting for AF or a BFP anytime now!!!).

I didn’t do any ovulation tests for this cycle, I hate them with a passion!!! (Maybe because they’ve never worked because I don’t ovulate normally). We started on CD8 because as soon as AF is gone, hubby wants to get going. On CD16 I had sore breasts, a headache, a load of EWCM and the worst mid-cycle cramps I’ve ever had. Sex was really painful on that day too - so I think that was when I ovulated. I’ve never had that many strong ovulation symptoms before.

With the exception of a blood test on CD18 next month, I am not being monitored at all by Dr. Fertility. So I think that may be normal for the NHS. It’s frustrating because I just want to know if it is working or not!

Thank you so much for getting back to me! Good luck!!! You will have to let us know how you get on.

Honest the tests are really demoralising - as I have never seen it positive due to not naturally ovulating so it feels like it will never happen. I will definitely be a little more patient - hopefully by day 16 I will see symptoms!

NHS are not even giving me blood tests which is annoying - but lets see this week if anything starts happening x

MK85 · 17/08/2022 19:31

I'm using nhs treatment aswell but was told my cycles will be monitored to check if I'm responding, and to check follicle size

Jadeybabes86 · 17/08/2022 20:19

@Ldougal92 I have PCOS and don’t ovulate naturally had on and off regular/irregular periods for as long as I can remember but more recently more on the regular side,

were NHS And only having 21 day bloods don’t on cycle 2 and 3, I was also due to see dr Fertility around the 4 month mark from my last telephone appointment but I’ve brought it forward as I have had concerns about these strange pains in my actual vagina (not ovaries) which upon reading endless threads can’t find anything that relates

plus also I don’t want to be taking it if it’s not working and just having the opposite effect

I started my cycle on day 2 of af (this almost immediately stopped the bleeding) and we’re told to DTD every other day from 5 days after the last pill which we have don’t and also all month long too as ovulation sticks were a waste of time and money as I’ve yet to have a darker than the indicator show ☹️

i am now

MK85 · 18/08/2022 13:59

I'm the complete opposite. Ovulation sticks are pointless to me as I always have 2 lines show no matter what stage in my cycle it is as my LH is constantly high all the time. Would be impossible to know if or when I ovulated .

But the way when you guys say Dr.fertility ..who are you referring to ? Have you been sent to see an actually fertility specialist on nhs or just a gynaecologist like me
